About this property

PINE VIEW BUNGALOW - OCEAN VIEW BUNGALOW IN THE PINES AT BODEGA BAY

The Pine View Bungalow is a two bedroom, two bath home perfect for one or two couples or a small family. The house is located on scenic Highway 1 at the north end of the fishing village of Bodega Bay. It is situated at the back of a large double lot and is adjacent to our other one bedroom/one bathroom Pine View Cottage. There is a large fenced back yard. There is ample parking for your car(s) or boat(s). We welcome you and your well behaved canine.

Pine View Bungalow was completely remodeled in 2011. Upon entering the home, you will immediately notice the beautiful finishes including 14' vaulted ceilings paneled in knotty pine, the rock faced gas fireplace, the wainscot and the numerous windows that take advantage of the fantastic view. The living room is furnished with a comfortable sectional, chairs and a large coffee table perfect for laying out a puzzle or playing games. Additional amenities include free Cable TV, DVD/CD player with surround sound and high speed wireless Internet.

The first bedroom has a queen bed, vaulted knotty pine ceiling and a large sliding glass door that opens onto the back patio. There is a bath directly across the hall from this bedroom that has a tub/shower combination and also houses the stacked washer and dryer. Up two steps is the spacious master bedroom, with a cal-king bed and a sliding glass door that opens on to the patio and hot tub. Up five steps is a spa-like master bath that features a glassed in shower with a river rock floor, and a vaulted, knotty pine paneled ceiling. There is a hot water on demand system for the house that provides unlimited hot water (although we encourage water conservation).

The kitchen is fully furnished with all the equipment necessary to prepare fantastic meals. You might even use vegetables bought at the seasonal Bodega Farmer's Market or locally caught sea food, particularly dungeness crab purchased from any one of several sources within a 1/2 mile of the house.

If you enjoy cooking like we do, you may never want to leave the house, but if you choose to treat yourself to a great meal, the Michelin rated Terrapin Creek Cafe is directly across the street. There's nothing better than walking to dinner - enjoying great cuisine, drinks and dessert - and not having to get in your car!

A private covered patio runs the length of the back of the house and contains the hot tub, table and chairs and a Weber barbecue. Relax in the hot tub at night and watch the fishing boats come into the harbor, and, on the 4th of July, watch the fireworks while you soak in the tub. A patio on the side of the house has comfortable Adirondack chairs.

A short walk will take you to Porto Bodega where you can charter a fishing trip on one of the many charter boats, pick up locally caught seafood, or just explore the harbor and sample some of the best crab and clam chowder on the coast.

There are many recreational activities within a mile of the house, including golf, windsurfing, fishing, hiking, biking, kite flying, beachcombing, kayaking, bird and whale watching. Or you can explore nearby towns, such as Occidental (eat at Negri's restaurant), Freestone (Osmosis Spa is a must) and the Russian River area. Or just take a drive north on Highway 1 along the most spectacular coastline in the world. You won't be disappointed.

Beautiful Home, great location!

We had a wonderful stay at Pine View! The home is immaculate and very cozy. The location was ideal; a short walk from the bay, across the street from Roadhouse Coffee, and down the road from Gourmet Au Bay. The home had everything we needed and we can't wait to return!

Perfect place for weekend at the coast

My sister and I wanted a comfortable place to take our elderly father and our dogs for a coastal weekend getaway. This cute, clean house with a fenced yard was just perfect! It had everything we wanted on this rainy weekend. Hot tub, gas fireplace, wonderful furnishings, comfy beds, accent lighting that inspired me, kitchen with every convenience. We also loved the location, on a large parcel that felt private. Can't wait to stay here again!

Repeat Customer

This is our 2nd time staying at this property. Unfortunately our stay was cut short because of a storm that knocked out power throughout most of NorCal. The owners checked in our us and even brought us a generator to use if we decided to stay. We always enjoy our stay here, good or bad weather and intend to return. Property is well maintained and very well furnished.

wonderful getaway

This was our second stay at Pine View, and as enjoyable as the first. Pine View is clean, well stocked, comfortable and welcoming. I especially appreciate the blankets and furniture throws provided for canine guests. There are a number of nearby beaches that welcome dogs on their leashes. Bodega Bay is also well placed for day trips along the coast or inland to Occidental and the Russian River. Highly recommended.

Cute, Clean, Cozy, Comfortable

Very clean and supplied with everything you’d ever need. Great location, nice view. The only thing that could have made it better was detailed instructions on how to get the TV in the living room programmed so we could get to the local channels. Had to watch the 49er game and the Rosebowl parade and game in the bedroom.

Wonderful stay at the Pine View Bungalow in Bodega Bay

The outside is very basic, well kept and clean. Inside was a complete surprise for our two guests as they didn't have anything to do with us renting the bungalow for an informal surprise get away. By the end of our stay, we all agreed it was too short and we would all miss the Bungalow. We did nothing for 3 days and nights. It was wonderful. We did cook dinner one evening there and everything we needed was supplied. A well stocked kitchen to say the least. One of our guests used the hot tub which was extremely well kept and said it was the end of a perfect day hiking. I would highly recommend the Pine View Bungalow to anyone who is looking for a wonderful spot in Bodega Bay. We enjoyed the woods as much as the water.

Exceptional!

As a short term vacation rental owner, I am a little picky with my rentals, and this location exceeded my expectations. The owner/manager was SO accomodating with my changing needs due to the wildfires. The house was SO clean and I really appreciated the 72 hour window between visitors to ensure that it is Covid free. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could ever need. There is a copy of the movie The Birds, which I very much recommend watching. They even provide guests with binoculars. The yard is great for dogs. It was really perfect and clearly a labor of love.

super dog friendly yard!

we went to celebrate my mom's 88th birthday! this is my second trip to this property and it's just one of my favorite rentals. equipment-wise there is anything and everything you would need to cook a wonderful meal. . . the fridge is emptied after every stay but there are simple items like salt and pepper, oil, and those random rental house spices! They have a really nice Belgian waffle maker so bring waffle batter ingredients! Shop before you hit town because the little store on hwy 1 is crazy expensive. the house is comfortable, cozy and quiet. we experienced a super moon while we were there and it was incredible to sit in the hot tub while the moon crested over the beautiful old pine trees that creak and sway with the wind. it was perfect. last time i stayed there, it was with my very elderly dog who enjoyed laying in the sun or snoozing in front of the fireplace. this time i had my young dog with me and she really enjoyed the huge, secure fenced-in yard in back of the house. bring your chuck-it for hours of fun for you and your pooch! the house is close to Spuds which is famous for it's clam chowder - both red and white. since we were so close we enjoyed Spuds quite a few times and i tried the red clam chowder for the first time and it is amazing! there is a spirit of generosity in this house. . .everything you need is there. i just love it!

About the host

Hosted by Rebecca Mills

Host profile image
Siblings Robert and Rebecca Mills, along with their spouses Diana and Kevin Dougherty, are co-owners of the Pine View Bungalow and Cottage. Robert spent many years as a custom home builder, and used his skills to completely remodel both houses. Diana went to school to fulfill her dream and passion for landscape design. She has an innate ability for knowing which plants to use in which location and continues to put her design ideas into practice at the property. Kevin has been coming to Bodega since he was eight, and he and Becky spent their honeymoon here. They retired from civil service after more than 30 years, and currently live in Fair Oaks, California. Becky likes all things craft, and Kevin is an avid chef and gardener.

Why they chose this property

In 2010, Robert and Diana and Becky and Kevin had the wild idea to buy a little 'fixer' house somewhere in the Russian River area, where Diana's family has owned property for over 100 years. After looking at a lot of homes and making offers without success (our realtor almost gave up on us!) Robert and Diana drove to Bodega Bay in the pouring rain to look at a house that was just listed. To make a long story short, they knew the little house at the end of town was 'the one'. Money inherited from our cherished mother, Elizabeth Mills, allowed us to purchase the property in 2010. A simple remodel it was not. We ended up having to tear most of the house down to the foundation. It was rebuilt with the skills, knowledge, imagination and hard work of our own private contractor (Robert!). The result is a darling house with beautiful finishes that feels much larger than its actual square footage. Robert then used his skills to remodel a little garage on the property that we now call the Pine View Cottage. It has the same nice finishes and shows the attention to detail that went into it's remodel. Because it was raining the first time Robert and Diana saw the property, they didn't even realize there was a view until after we'd made our offer and went back to see it for a more careful inspection. Were we excited when we discovered that we could see not only Bodega Harbor but Bodega Head and the Pacific Ocean right from the window. What a bonus. None of us ever dreamed we'd be able to have a house in Bodega Bay. But since we've been here, we've discovered more and more things that Bodega Bay and the surrounding area have to offer. We love every minute we get to spend in Bodega Bay and our little home away from home.

What makes this property unique

The Pine View Bungalow sits at the north end of town and its extra large lot provides a real sense of privacy. It is the last house in the row of houses and is surrounded by undeveloped property on the east and north sides. The Pine View Cottage shares the double lot with the Bungalow but both are completely separate and private. Because the house sits at the very back of the lot there is ample space for parking cars and recreational vehicles in front. We also love the location for its proximity to one of the best restaurants in the area, Terrapin Creek Cafe.
