This is our second visit to this wonderful place. The house is very comfortable and well supplied with anything you need for a great visit. The views are spectacular!!
Great floor plan; very simple and straight forward with beautiful views of an active working harbor. Cooked lobster from the local wharf most nights. Used wood stove on cooler evenings. Central mid coast location provides easy access to Camden, Rockland, Port Clyde, booth bay and island ferries w/o the congestion. Highly recommend.
We very much enjoyed our stay in Friendship! The listing was spot on - right on the water, very clean, fun boathouse space with ping pong that the kids loved. Due to recent storms, they were in the middle of repairing the shoreline but Sam was proactive in letting us know they would not be finished by the time we arrived. He did have them stop working during our stay which was much appreciated! We hope to return in the future!
We loved this property! The views are stunning and the location makes it ideal for adventures across Maine. We went as a family with our two boys ages 14 and 11 and it was the right house for all ages.
We were even able to do a day trip to Acadia from here though it made for a long day. House is well stocked. The kids really enjoyed the ping pong table and we all loved the pier and comfortable back porch and backyard. You can't go wrong staying here!
Our time spent at Tamarack Cottage was pretty perfect! The cottage clearly had a lot of thought put into it when it was built and we appreciated all the little details. It was spacious, clean, and had everything you could possibly need to make your stay enjoyable. The yard was perfect for playing games on or just relaxing with a book. The deep water dock was great to swim and fish off of (we even snagged a striped bass from the dock one evening). We rented kayaks one day from the Bird’s Nest B & B and they were wonderful as well. We also enjoyed walking to Wallace’s and got there pizza one night which was delicious. The co-op was a short distance beyond us and we got lobsters one afternoon for a treat. The attached boat shed was a fun addition and we played a lot of ping pong. We would highly recommend this special property and look forward to returning next summer!
Beautiful, spacious place where friends also renting in the area were able to gather for a couple of dinners. Very well appointed. Very quiet spot at the end of the road. Definitely hope by to return.
It was a wonderful way to spend a week with our family. The kitchen was well stocked with anything you might need to cook family meals.
Plenty of seating at the table and in the living area. Everything the great! Only suggestion would be over head fan in living room ,dining room and downstairs bedroom as it gets warm on nice sunny days that we we’re lucky to have during our visit.
Our second rental here was wonderful thanks to suggested upgrades and the stunning location as well as good friends and family visits. Only one comment as it relates to VRBO. The website said check in was at 1:00 PM, but the cleaning lady was under the impression that 4:00 PM was arrival time. (We arrived at around 2:30 PM) . This disconnect needs to be corrected.
We loved our stay in Friendship. The local grocery/deli was a nice resource. We frequented the lobster coop for our nightly soft shell lobsters. Friendship is a quaint little town but centrally located just short drives to other destinations. Arcadia is @2 hours. We awoke each morning listening to the hymn of the lobster boats!! Well stocked and extremely clean!!! We will be back
Wonderful setting in an idyllic lobster fishing working harbor
House is clean and comfortable with all the cooking utensils and gear available. Beds were very comfortable and having the wood stove was great for cool nights
We were a group of 4 friends at this beautiful and spacious sunlit property. The pictures online don't adequately show how lovely this place is. We oohed and aahed upon entry of the house. The view of the water is gorgeous and the activity in the harbor was always interesting, especially at morning and dusk. We enjoyed the freshest lobsters purchased right from the co-op docks, and devoured the delicious Italian hoagies and sweets at the general store! We were a short distance from our chosen hiking spots in Camden and Bristol.
Unfortunately, the boat and kayak that are listed are actually not available for use, so we did a half-day guided tour on Muscongus Bay, instead. The owner is not intrusive and responsive, while the caretaker is a sweet man who maintains the property so well. This is a peaceful respite in a wonderful setting. I would gladly return!
We had a fabulous time in Friendship at our rental, which was in the general neighborhood of where my parents built a home in 1974 but sold in 1979 after my mother died. We know most of the people on Tamarack Road. Our grandsons (ages 7, 10, 10, 12) had a blast cannon-balling off the dock and fishing there as well!
We noticed that there was no hair dryer as listed on VRBO. The first floor bed needs either a new frame or mattress to reduce the creak every time one turns over and the weather stripping of the exterior doors needs attention so the doors can close without difficulty. We shared these observations with the property manager.
We hope to return next year during the same week in August.
We had a wonderful stay with just our family of four. Plenty of room, extremely clean, comfortable and charming. Lots of space to relax, read, sketch, paint and watch the boats and sunsets. Close to Owl’s Head and Rockland, Farnsworth museum. Also easy day trip to Reid State Park. Easy walk to the general store and Jameson’s for lobster, fish. Kitchen is well stocked with all the utensils you need for grilling, making clam chowder or steaming lobster. Ping-pong table was a hit, as was the double-rainbow that appeared over the harbor after a summer rainstorm. Would definitely stay here again. It’s pretty magical!
Our family had a great time relaxing and watching the lobster boats in working harbor. House is well equipped and very clean in a great location. People in Friendship certainly lived up to the name. Would definitely return for another trip
This property is a great mix of a rustic Maine cabin with all of the modern amenities. The view of working lobsterman in the bay won’t soon be forgotten. The town of Friendship is a quiet and quaint seaport town just what we were looking for. The house is beautiful and the location is outstanding.
The home is perfect for a quiet getaway.
It’s also good for families because of the boathouse with ping pong table and good size yard. We enjoyed the dock and back porch for relaxing. The fireworks in the harbor were fun.

Quiet Cottage!! The perfect Maine getaway!!
My family thoroughly enjoyed this rental cottage on the water. It is centrally located to many coastal towns for sightseeing. We ventured down to Booth Bay and all the way up to Camden. It is close to the Owls Head Museum (a must see) and you can take the boat out to Monhegan Island for the day from Port Clyde. After each busy day, it was great to come home to the peace and quiet of Tamarack cottage. If you need some groceries....or a good pizza, the general store is only 5 minutes from the cottage. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. A perfect vacation!!

About the host
Hosted by Sam Clapp
We are a long married semi-retired couple who have always enjoyed boating here in MA and also in Maine where Nat spent his childhood summers sailing. We have two married sons with children who enjoy the water as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
Having spent our early summers in mid coast Maine, it had always been our dream to own a home in Maine. We spent several years looking for the perfect house in Maine but in 1995 when we saw this piece of property on the harbor in Friendship we knew this was our dream location. Over the next 2 years we built the main house and as our children got married and had their own children we realized we needed more space so we could all enjoy this area at the same time. Last year was the first summer we enjoyed the recently constructed cottage not far from the main house
What makes this property unique
Friendship is a quiet town where many of the residents are involved in fishing and lobstering. It is enjoyable to observe the activities of the fishing fleet in the harbor. However, the privacy of our cottage also afford one the pleasure of watching seals, eagles and osprey from the deck.
