The Moonlight Cottage: At The Water's Edge With Beaches And Atlantic Views

Moonlight Cottage!

Located in the fishing village of Tenants Harbor, Maine, this charming “real Maine cottage” is just steps away from the water's edge and your private beach. This picturesque oceanfront cottage has two bedrooms, one full bathroom, and an open-concept floor plan to comfortably sleep four people.

Upon arrival, you step up onto an oceanfront deck equipped with a propane grill, four rocking chairs, and an umbrella dining table with seating for four, perfect for enjoying the view or enjoying a lobster feast. The private beach shore is only steps away for sunbathing, picnicking, and viewing the working lobster boats coming in from haul, sailboats, and pleasure yachts blending in the harbor. Off the deck, you are only a few steps and a short grassy walk to a fire pit with four Adirondack chairs, perfect for an evening listening to the sounds of the ocean with a glass of wine while reflecting on your day of exploring.

Warm and inviting, this cottage is furnished with all the modern touches; you’ll have that feeling of getting away from it all without giving up any comforts of home. The nicely equipped kitchen has a table to seat four by the window overlooking the water. It’s an ideal spot to enjoy your morning coffee or play a game of cards. In the living room area, is a couch, two armchairs, two end tables, a rocking chair, and a flat-screen television with cable and a DVD/Blu-ray combo, and is complete with a wood burning fireplace for those chilly Maine evenings. Off the living room is one full bath with a shower only. To the left is a bedroom with a queen-sized bed and the second bedroom to the right has two twin beds, one of them being a trundle at floor level. In the second bedroom is a stackable washer and dryer, ironing board and iron, a hamper, and laundry supplies.

For your convenience, we have provided initial supplies of the following: linens, bath towels, washcloths, hand towels, and beach towels. Your first tank of propane for the gas grill, wood for the fireplace and fire pit, dish soap, hand soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, cable, wireless internet, and a home phone are all complimentary. We make every effort to assure the accuracy of this listing, and the condition of equipment and quality of provided services. We make no implied guarantee of connectivity for wireless internet or services provided by a third party. However, we will do everything in our power to remedy any situation as quickly as possible, and we thank you for your understanding.

Area Amenities:
The Tenants Harbor General Store, is open daily, specializing in morning coffee and pastries, corn, blueberries, native lobsters, fresh-cut meats, firewood, and all grocery supplies. It is only a 10-minute walk, or bring your bike for riding the winding roads for the scenic ocean and island views. This is a pleasantly old and proud Maine community with its own library, school, and fire/rescue department. Knox County Sheriff's Office provides policing services. One-third of all Maine lobsters come from this county, named for General Henry Knox, George Washington's chief artillery officer in the Revolutionary War of 1776. You can learn about him on the peninsula, as well as enjoy programs offered all seasons at Montpelier, the Knox Mansion Museum, located just another few minutes in the nearby coastal town of Thomaston.

Heading another 10 minutes down the St. George peninsula is Port Clyde, another fishing village. You will enjoy beautiful ocean views while enjoying an incredible meal on the wharf and delicious ice cream for dessert from the local ice cream shop. In the heart of Port Clyde, you will find adventure waiting for you. Whether it's visiting a local art gallery, enjoying a day on the ocean with the Wyeth by Water Lobster Boat tours, or the Monhegan Island ferry adventures to see Maine seabirds, including puffins and American bald eagles, spending the day at the local Drift-Inn beach or a picnic at Marshall Point Lighthouse; St. George has something for everyone.

Here are some things you should know about visiting Maine:

Cell phones: Although coverage is getting better, there are some places where cell phones don't have good reception. Chances are you will have service, but just in case, make sure you leave the number of the house you are renting with those who may need to get in touch with you. Coverage with AT&T can be spotty in many areas of Maine.

Weather: If you have heard it once, you've heard it a hundred times: if you don't like the weather in New England, wait a minute. It can be hot in Rockland and cool in Port Clyde so make sure to pack a variety of clothes — from a bathing suit for hot days to a sweater for cool evenings. Check out the current local weather at www.weather.com.

Bugs: A lot of people ask us if we have mosquitoes...we sure do. But they aren't huge and they don't ruin a vacation. Bring some repellent, or pick some up at the local general stores and you will be fine; usually, you won't even notice them.

Dogs: We love dogs around here, but each town has its own rules about pets. Make sure to look for signs stating if dogs are allowed and always have them on a leash. If they leave behind anything, please pick it up, it's not a fun surprise when you are exploring the beautiful shoreline. You can also be fined for not picking up after your four-legged friend.
Unwanted animals: You probably have them too, but raccoons and skunks can make you regret last night's lobster dinner. No one wants to pick up old, smelly shells that have been cast out onto the lawn by these cute, but curious and disastrously messy, little guys. So please don't put off placing the trash in the secure trashcans provided.

Water: Moonlight Cottage is not on public water supply. It has a well, with a water filtration system, and is tested regularly once a year.

Moonlight Cottage is a Saturday to Saturday rental year-round! This home comfortably sleeps 4 people/ max 2 adults.

Maine home away from home

This is a beautiful property with so many areas to enjoy the weather. We loved watching the lobster boats and wildlife. The evenings were spent drinking coctails beside the firepit. A great place to spend a week in the heat of the summer.

The Moonlight Cottage, situated on a working harbor with an amazing view of Southern Island and the Gulf of Maine, is the quintessential Maine cottage. The kitchen is quite well equipped, there is easy access to the water for kayaking (rentals from Port Clyde Kayaks) and the cottage location, in Tenants Harbor, allows easy access to hiking and fantastic restaurants in nearby Rockland, Rockport and Camden.

Absolutely Splendid!

The most amazing spot - Ocean at the doorstep with unobstructed sunrises, beautiful views of the surrounding islands and an adorable, cozy cabin to enjoy it all. We had an amazing time and really hated to leave! The owner was so pleasant and available for any questions. Strongly recommend booking !

Amazing Summer Retreat

This continues to be our favorite place to be in the summer. It is everything a Maine summer cottage should be. Veronika does an amazing job communicating if you have any questions. We will return year after year to this little piece of heaven.

Wow! What a quaint little piece of perfection. We enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It was well appointed, clean, and comfortable. The surrounding area was just what we wanted. We had the privacy desired, but close to restaurants, shopping, hiking, lighthouses, and boating. We look forward to a return visit.

Another perfect get away

Moonlight cottage lived up to it's name as there was a full moon for the first few nights and perfect weather to watch the moon rise. We appreciate the attention to details and the well equipped kitchen. Nothing like having your morning coffee by the harbor. Already booked for next year.

The location is awesome. The property is well maintained and the house is perfect for 2 people and a small dog. The kitchen is well stocked with all that you will need to cook anything. The bed is very comfortable and the living room is perfect for hanging out on those rainy days. Can't wait to return.

Perfect!

We spent a week at Moonlight Cottage. Every day we would look around inside and out and say, "perfect" We had coffee in the rocking chairs, paddled all day to islands we could hike on, dinner at the table on the deck and ended our days at the firepit. Rested and so greatful for our stay, we left promising we would return next year.

Tenants Harbor Haven

Great for just the two of us, not suitable for more guests' Very pricey. Beautiful view in a nice area. We could walk to the store and we walked to a good restaurant, The Happy Clam. Needs a full curtain in the bedroom to help block the night lights from the next door lobster boat's pier.

Cute cottage in an incredible location

We had a wonderful week here! Photos absolutely don’t do the views justice. My small children played on the beach for hours, we kayaked and paddle boarded, and also just relaxed on the deck. Although the house is small, the space is used so well that’s it’s very functional and comfortable. Loved every single day of our time here and look forward to returning!

Loved it, but be aware…

Super mellow cottage, beautiful and rustic! Only one comment - the pictures are deceiving, it is REALLY small, and the lobster dock is much closer than the pictures indicate. (They start working at 5 AM) Other than that, a beautiful spot, well appointed cottage for a getaway!

Amazing coastal location

Location on the coast is amazing with spectacular views out the front windows. Cottage is incredibly well equipped, especially the kitchen. We loved the outdoor fire pit and indoor fireplace on chilly days and nights. As people note, there is a working lobster dock next door, but of the five days we were there, it was only noisy early once. As others also note, the bedroom walls don't go all the way to the ceiling, so there's limited (sound) privacy between the two rooms. But the location and the impeccable condition of the cottage more than make up for those shortcomings.

This is a beautiful property with an idyllic waterfront location.

We loved this property. However, renters should be aware that there are no ceilings separating the living/kitchen areas and the bedrooms. The walls are only about 7 feet, while the ceiling of the cottage has a high, open cathedral style ceiling. As a result, there is no noise or light barrier between any of the rooms, except the bathroom. We had intended to invite our parents for a few nights but decided the space was inappropriate as it lacked privacy. Great for parents and kids, though! The property is well appointed, charming and clean. The bed was a dream to sleep on and kitchen had every appliance you could want. The location could not be better. We were sad to leave!

Lovely and picturesque

I loved this spot with its charming cottage overlooking the water. Peaceful with terrific views from all points - patio, yard and from inside the house. The interior of the cottage is small but cozy. There’s a nice size w/d - you can do as much laundry as you care to. It can get quite warm inside the house at peak sun times even with the windows open - I ended up lowering the shades for a period during the day. Veronika was generous and responsive. My sole comment is the mattress in the primary bedroom has prominent springs and is depressed in the middle, less than restful and would benefit from an upgrade. Regardless, I confirmed a second stay later in the summer and look forward to returning.

Thomaston is quiet and beautiful. Close to Port Clyde and Rockland. Good lighthouses to visit near both spots. The Happy Clam restaurant in St. George has good food but pricey. McCloons in S. Thomaston is the place to go for great lobsters/lobster rolls. Camden Maine is not too far. The house on Barter Rd. is comfortable but very small; OK for two with well equipped kitchen. Rent is too high.
