Whee Farm Refuge in the Smokies: Spacious 1 BR/1 Bath Barn Apartment
The Whee Farm is a 6 acre working farm on a quiet secluded country road, nestled in the middle of the Smoky Mountains. Our chickens lay organic, fresh eggs, our heritage breed chicks hatch twice a year, our pigs supply food for several local families and our goats provide constant entertainment. This barn apartment was newly built in 2024. We are located 5 miles from Western Carolina University and strategically located within driving distance to many hikes and the Smoky Mountain National Park!
This 600 sq foot 1BR/1BR apartment was newly constructed in 2024. The 16+ foot tall ceilings, numerous windows and spacious loft add openness and space to the living area. The master bedroom has a comfortable queen-sized bed with mattress topper, spacious armoire and designated workspace complete with desk and office chair. The couch in the living room easily converts to another queen sized bed for extra guests. The living room has a Roku TV for streaming your favorite shows as well as a DVD player for movie nights. Board/card games and puzzles are provided for your entertainment. In the loft space above, you will find a twin sized futon and additional TV. This loft space can be used for storage or as another extra living space. All linens are provided. Our spacious bathroom boasts plenty of storage shelving, a full sized laundry unit and a tub/shower. The full sized, well-equipped kitchen is ready for you to cook your meals and is complete with a full-sized fridge and oven and a drip coffee maker and electric water kettle with provided coffee and tea. Outside you will find a shared patio space with adirondack chairs with a fire pit overlooking the farm and Smoky Mountains views.
*Please note: We do live in rural Appalachia surrounded by many mature trees. We do not have strong cell signal at our property (Verizon sometimes works), and personally we rely on our wi-fi calling mode on our phones to make calls and send messages which works very well. You will need to switch to wi-fi calling upon arrival for best results. Additionally, we occasionally have storms come through that have the potential to take down trees in our neighborhood which can result in power and wi-fi outages. This doesn't happen frequently but is important to know that it can happen. When it does we work quickly to get both restored with our local power and internet companies.
*Please also note- there are actually two mostly identical apartments available for rent at the Whee Farm (set up like a duplex). The one in this listing is titled Apartment A. There is a deadbolt double door with insulation between the two of them that we are happy to open for you if you desire to rent both apartments together when they are available at the same time. Please message us ahead of time if this is something you are interested in!

We stayed in Unit A. Full of amenities, very clean, comfortable and quiet. Only around a 12 minute drive to WCU. Really needs 6 stars. They covered everything. We didn’t use the fire pit but the chairs overlook the pasture and it was very relaxing. Chickens (including a coop of baby chicks), rabbits and the goats running around. Farm in action! Maggie and Jarod were very responsive and helpful. Highly recommend!
This property is absolutely adorable. We are really particular about cleanliness and this surpassed my expectations. The hosts are a beautiful family and very friendly. Our welcome basket was a lovely touch and targeted to our reason for our stay. Thank you so much for allowing us to experience the Whee Farm.
We came up for a short weekend. It felt like home. The host made us feel like family all the way down to their dog wanting belly rubs! The apartment was super clean and we enjoyed sitting outside hearing the chickens and the goats. What’s makes this place special is the attention to detail Maggie and her family has put into this place! She is so thoughtful!! She had muffins and fresh eggs in the kitchen. We HIGHLY recommend this place and host!!
