We had our entire family 8 adults and 2 children on a trip to Acadia national park . The house was perfect for us . Overlooking Some Sound with deer joining each day in the backyard. We had a great time
We had a wonderful time exploring Acadia National Park from this house. The location was awesome and the house had plenty of space and a great deck overlooking the sound.
Lovely, clean, comfy, spacious house. Fully loaded with pretty much everything one would need. Centrally located. Perfect location. Wonderful artwork and great, friendly communication with the host. Gorgeous views!
We enjoyed the location and many fun things to do in the area. The house was large enough for a big family. The check in was easy. The home is well equipped with the things you need. There is an iga nearby for groceries when the first ones ran out.
We absolutely loved our stay in this quaint Maine house with a beautiful view! Great location - easy access to Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor, deer in the yard daily, and lobsters off the boat at the bottom of the hill. It suited our extended family perfectly- we will be back!

Iâm so glad you enjoyed your stay Sue! Hope to see you again! Jan
The property was quaint and charming. However we were on Mt Desert during a hot spell and only one room was air conditioned. Beautiful views! We were visiting family in Somesville so the location was perfect for us!
Loved the location! We loved sitting on the deck and watching the deer and enjoying the morning sky over the water. It's so quiet yet is still conveniently close to Acadia Park and Bar Harbor. The house is very spacious and well stocked. This is definitely a place we would consider if we return to Maine. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed our stay. Teenagers' loved the bedroom above the garage. Enjoyed seeing the deer playing in the front.
Would liked a handrail or handle to help getting up the small stairs inside the front door.
Plenty of space for 3 couples. Great water view off the deck. Saw the deer walking around the property. Water pressure for showers was weak but we made the best of it. Captains Quarters would be a stellar property if it were updated. The artwork was very nice touch.
This property was exactly as described. We had 7 adults and 3 children under the age of 4 and had plenty of room. We ate many meals at the house and had plenty of plates utensils, pots pans, etc. This property is only 20 minutes away from the park, Bar Harbor and many hiking trials. The communication with the host Jan was outstanding. We would definitely stay here again!
We had a fabulous stay at Captains Quarters. The property is clean and spacious. Conveniently located minutes away from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor while affording peace and privacy. The view from the back deck overlooking the Somes Sound is beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you'd need to cook, including a lobster pot and popover tins. The beds are very comfortable and rooms are large. Jan was so responsive to answer any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again.

Iâm so happy you enjoyed it! You are welcome back anytime!! đ
Excellent location next door to Acadia, my husband and brother in law walked to the Acadia Mountain hike from the property. Jan is great, very responsive. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of kitchen essentials including a crock pot which was amazing. We also had a very large group and didnât run out of towels! The large porch on the back overlooking Somes Sound was my favorite, drinking coffee and eating breakfast there in the morning I wonât easily forget
Our overall stay was great. Very comfortable and offered many fans on those warm humid days. The AC is only in room above garage, a point which I did not see the detail on. Jan was reachable within 24 hours with any questions or concerns we had. Our family enjoyed ping ping in basement. It was very cool down there.the enjoyed the coole
Was exactly as advertized, we enjoyed the shaded deck and views of the sound particularly. We ate most of the meals on the picnic table on the deck. The house comfortalbly fit the group of 8 we had, the kitchen was well stocked, and was a compfortable temperature, even on the hot days (having fans in every roomm was a help). plenty of parking . As mentioned in previous reviews the decor is dated but the house is bargain priced to accommate. We had some snafus the first day upon check-in, but once we reached the owner, she rapidly resovled any issues quite satifactorily. Be aware that cell phone service at the house is spotty and many of fthe sorrounding areas are quite spotty to non-existant. Internet at the house worked well.
The house was very dirty. Soiled carpeting, orange mold on shower curtains, stained furniture, dead bugs all over the floors and un-vacuumed carpets. Everything is old and nothing is updated with wallpaper peeling off in the bathroom. The cookie sheets and non-stick frying pans were rusted and black as were a number of the metal utensils. Emailed the owner about none of the floors being cleaned when we arrived and she did not offer to send cleaning service back over.
The saving grace was the view, but the outdoor furniture was also old and dirty so hard to enjoy the deck. Would not rent again.
We rented this house for a family reunion. We were very pleased with Captain's Quarters overall. The bedrooms were comfortable and the large deck with a view of the sound was especially nice. We were disappointed with access to the internet. At best it was very slow. At worst, we couldn't connect at all.
The location of the house was just right for our group. Everyone appreciated the quiet location and easy access to the western parts of the island.
Great location. Wonderful views. Saw deer and squirrels from the deck almost daily. Close to all the scenic places we wanted to visit. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

About the host
Hosted by Jan C Hall
For nearly forty years Don & Marilyn Chambers (my parents) have been welcoming guests to Captains Quarters and have provided a level of service that has become rare. They have built a reputable name for themselves in vacation rentals through hard work & dedication to providing comfort and convenience for guests. The Chambers built Captains Quarters in 1980. At this point in their lives (2013) they have decided it is time to retire and slow down a bit and do more of the things they love to do. I became owner of my parents property, Captains Quarters at the end of 2013 and I intend to continue welcoming guests just as my parents have always done This is one of my favorite homes that I have always loved and understand why my parents continued to have many 'repeat' tenants.
Why they chose this property
Maine is full of wonderful places, but few can rival the experience of spending your vacation on Somes Sound. Captains Quarters offers a clean, comfortable, peaceful, and memorable spot for your next vacation. Etched deep into the heart of Mount Desert Island, the five mile long Somes Sound is the only fjord on the Atlantic Coast. Surrounded by the lush mountains of Acadia National Park, the Sound offers spectacular views of both land and sea. Leave your worries behind, and enjoy an unforgettable vacation experience on Somes Sound.
What makes this property unique
Within minutes from Bar Harbor, Mountains, Restaurants, Marina's, Acadia National Park and amazing views of Somes Sound. What makes our property unique is that we provide water access, a boat ramp, deep water mooring, and dock with row boat. Most evenings you can watch deer graze in front of your deck as you look over the sunset on Somes Sound. Ocasionally you will see a Momma deer and her new fawn.
