About the host
Hosted by Randall Ann Homan

I am a visual designer and design historian. I lead design and architecture walking tours in San Francisco. I always wanted to design and grow a garden and be a caretaker of a historic home, and this dream has come true!
Why they chose this property
We chose this historic neighborhood because we believe in the protection of vintage houses that isn't too restrictive, yet keeps the visual esthetic of a timeless California small town. We particularly wanted a classic bungalow-style house with a front porch and just two steps to a front door. We like the tree canopy of crepe myrtle trees on surrounding streets, creative water-saving gardens, and the combination of sun and shade perfect for neighborhood walks. The house has both privacy and proximity to our wonderful neighbors who love this special neighborhood and are long-time residents. This neighborhood feels safe and friendly. On balmy days many neighbors leave their front doors open! Walkability was also important to us: our favorite bakery, taqueria, and cafes are just a few blocks away in the arts district.
What makes this property unique
The Spanish/Mediterranean architecture of the front arches is classic, and the covered side porch is unique and creates an "outdoor room" right off the dining area. The house just has a "good feel" that everyone mentions once they step inside. It's an old house that has been carefully modernized for comfort with authentic materials. Highlights are a few delightful hand-crafted details like built-in shoe racks, a decorative metal mail drop, iron cabinet, and milk door in the breakfast room. The house has a spacious kitchen which is unique for a bungalow. The big bonus is all the comfortable outdoor places for relaxing.
