Our host Joseph was very accommodating. The check-in process was simple and smooth. The rental home was exactly as described and pictured, and very clean.
Joe was nice and easy to talk to. Neighbors were all friendly and the pool area/clubhouse was nice, clean, and inviting. We enjoyed the duck pond for some small easy fishing. Friendly, cool town center about 14 minutes away. I think this place was perfect for the price.
The house was in a nice location for our weekend trip. The house had plenty of room for our family and the immensities were great. Overall Joe was awesome in answering questions. I would stay again.

Thanks for staying at our Mountain Retreat. It was a pleasure to have Rich, Jess, Van and Roman. Hope to see you in the future! Stay warm!
My family had an excellent vacation. House had everything we needed. Easy and responsive contact with host. Tons to do in the area...highly recommend swimming at the reservoir (west access) and Jamaica State Park. Would definitely visit again.
very nice house, clean, cozy, kitchen is very nice.
Joe was accommodating and kind to our family.
I would rent it again for sure!
I highly recommend this place.
We loved the property, quiet and nice place. Our kids loved the style of the home, and the community pool and arcade, which had very pleasant and helpful staff providing goggles and life jackets for our kids. I enjoyed the hot tub, the clean house with everythwe needed, and above all, the owner was very responsive and helpful. We'll definitely try to book again for our next trip to Vermont!
We have stayed at this property multiple times and enjoy it more each visit! The solitude away from crowds, the wood stove, the coziness - it is like home away from home. Joe is a super good guy and the home is stocked with all you need to make it a great ski/VT experience. Our boys especially love the sound system and old movie collection. We will be back for sure!
Overall this property suited our needs well. It was clean & reasonably well stocked. Instructions for turning on the heat (temp was in lower 50's at night during our stay) could have been sent prior or a note left - a minor issue as the owner was quick to respond to request.

Thank you Joe - happy to hear the house served you well for stay. The home has several means for heating - electric heat with a digital thermostat in every room, a propane wall furnace and wood stove. During the summer months the electric heat thermostats are set to the vacation mode and if heat is needed the guest will raise the temperature. This is done like this so the guest is aware the heat has been turned up and to turn heat back down before opening windows to cool house down. Heating is generally not needed in summer.
Month-long stay during summer. Overall, very good. Great things: strong wifi; water pressure; views out ALL windows; quiet and peaceful - at night anyway. Not so great things: dealing w/ the neighbors’ ATV ‘block party’ (noise/dust/fumes) the second half of our stay; dealing w/ the fallout of an unsecured trash bin (neighbors’ bins were all secure) and unreliable/unpredictable garbage pickup in major bear country (fallout: cleaning up strewn garbage, worrying about host incurring incident fees, storing weekly garbage in mud room in the heat of summer). We still had a great time and enjoyed the house very much.

Its disappointing the your stay wasn't perfect. I will respond the items that were not.
The house is in an HOA of single family vacation homes and most of time nobody is in them and most the time one gets the atmosphere mountain top views and only hear the sounds of wildlife. Then there are times others from urban areas come up to their homes to enjoy the freedom of the wide open space and "spread their wings" if you will. These are generally the children of other owners and that behavior is often accused of being short term renters by others that are familiar with the area. Which is almost never the case.
The bears - first they are generally harmless to humans and all over the Northeast the bear population has grown rapidly. When they become a problem is when they get used to human food and loose their ability to find their food in nature combined with loosing their fear of humans. This summer we had in the area a female bear with 2 cubs which that was the case. Each guest this summer with their arrival info was given a warning of their presents and safe practices info for dealing with bears.
The trash bins you saw on some others property are supplied at hefty price of almost $2000 by the HOA and they have been broken into by the bears. The HOA claims this is impossible if the cover is properly secured and the owners claim they are securing them. I was getting fines from the HOA for bears in the trash bin when my property was not in use. It did take time sort these details out and solve the issue for my property. My finding was that there were other(s) in the area were not paying for trash pick-up in the @ $600/Year and deposing of their trash in others bins when their homes were unattended and leaving the covers to the bins unsecured as well providing a constant food source to human food condition the bears.
After you checked out a bear and human tamper proof bin was installed on my property. The HOA unit was not used because it was not human tamper proof which is major contributor to our bear problem.

The host was welcoming . The house needs major updating and cleaning. The garbage can was filthy. There was dried sticky food covering the outside of it. When I pulled the trash bag out trash bucket I saw what looked like mold covering the bottom, it was all black and it was not from us. All three beds were uncomfortable, thinking they are all very old. The closet in the downstairs bedroom had no door on it and was stuffed with junk. I kept my clothes in my suitcase. The house smelled of mildew. The mildew scent stayed on our clothes. The house temperature was cool, we couldn't turn up the heat as the thermostats were locked at 70. The nights got down to in the 30's. Location was good. Quiet neighborhood not far from Brattleboro.I have rented from VRBO and this is the first time I have to say I would never go back to that house.

First I would like make clear all guest are given my contact info I will address their issues and I will refund their unused their money and let them out of their rental if I am not able correct the issue. This guest was asked and with no mention of any of this.
The garbage pale what she describing as dried food on it - no its residue from spray foam insulation that came in contact with the pale its not removable and harmless. In the bottom there was some coffee grounds. The pale get emptied after every rental but not washed. The house get cleaned between every rental but for a $125 cleaning fee for home that size its not done to that detail between every rental.
The beds are not old.The last one was purchased in 2022 and the bedding is high threat count
cotton sheets with down comforter in washable duvet all bedding is white cleaned and free of stains.
The downstairs bedroom closet has a doors on it and one half is not stored with junk it is clean spare bedding stored in 1/2 of the closet. The house sleeps 6 with 3 beds in the house however many guest don't wish to share a bed so there is spare bedding to use.
There is no mildew - the house receives constant maintenance and upgrades.
The house has 3 different heating systems - electric heat with a programmable thermostat every room (they are not locked). When set 70 they hold every room at 70 regardless of temperature outside. A propane wall furnace with the control on top of unit and a wood stove and firewood supplied.
I stayed at this Chimney Hill house for 3 nights with my husband, brother and two adult sons. We were pleased with an abundant supply of firewood for the big woodstove which kept the whole house warm and cozy for the whole stay. There is also central heating, which we didn’t need much of. There are ceiling fans to distribute the heat. Many rentals do not supply firewood. The bed linens and towels were very fresh and clean and abundant. There were two bathrooms, both with showers and one with washer and dryer, a big plus with a larger group. We particularly liked the wide-open loft bedroom. I like to cook; this was the best equipped kitchen I have ever had in a VRBO rental. We had a chance to visit the clubhouse indoor pool and hot tub, where the staff was very friendly and helpful. Communication with the owner was excellent. We would definitely stay here again if we ever ski at Mt.Snow again.
never get to enjoy . i had an accident and injured my arm and leg snd was unable to get around
a real bummer. could not travel as my wife had an arm atm and leg injury and we lost all our rental money which didnt help her pain. a return of some money or some arrangenent would have
been a nice gesture.. reached out to owner butno reply. from him. some money or 2-3 days if he had weekday vacancy would be a nice gesture. we rented our Wilmington home to others and was always considerate of our renters wants and needs. it was never about the money. people sure are different.’ if you could help in anyway we would be most grateful. thank you. jim

Its sad to see reviews like this published. Jim was a no-show on day of arrival. After a no-show on day of arrival called and made contact to be told to rent the place to some else. These homes are under contact with clear cancellation policies. This reservation was for a holiday weekend/week which has historical 100% occupancy rate and reserved well in advance (as Jim's was)
Then it was later followed with demands for his money back or he's got an ax to grind how do give someone coming that position credit to stay another time in your home with many valuables inside.
My husband and I rented Joe's house for a long weekend for our anniversary. We were looking for something different and had never been to VT before so figured we'd give it a try. We're SO glad we did! Joe's communication was A+ and his house is great. The pictures are very accurate which isn't always the case with rentals. One of the most important things I want to say is that I've never stayed at a place that is so well supplied and well equipped! From toilet paper to towels/facecloths to shampoo's etc...you name it and it was there and plenty of it. The bed we slept in was SO comfy, too! The property is great if you're traveling with anyone that has trouble with stairs as there is a bedroom and full bath on the main floor. The upstairs bathroom could use a little updating, but it was very clean and functional and that's what is most important to us so not a big deal whatsoever. The location of the house is great. You drive up some winding roads (some dirt) up the mountain to a wooded lot which seemed very secluded with all the trees even though there are neighbors. The large deck with the gas grill was perfect for making meals and a short drive into town are some great places to eat and shop. The three places we ate at were Dots, The Last Chair, and the Bullwheel at the summit of Mount Snow. I would highly recommend all three. The only complaint we had was that we wished we had more time! We will definitely be back!
The best, they out did themselves ... all the essentials was in the house already.
At 💯 worth evert dime .

About the host
Hosted by Joseph Rogers
I am a retired ESPN broadcast engineer - a lifetime in the electronics field. This home was purchased in 2002 and was used exclusively by my family until 2017 when I retired. We skied every weekend from mid-November to April every year at Mount Snow. In the summer the Harriman Reservoir was my favorite place.
Why they chose this property
This home is in a great location high in the Southern Green Mountains within the Chimney Hill 4 seasons resort with many amenities and minutes to the Mount Snow Ski resort. The town of Wilmington center only 10 minutes away with everything from a grocery store to a pharmacy can found. The area is loaded with small shops and restaurants for you to visit.
What makes this property unique
Vermont's closest major ski resort to metropolitan areas with world class skiing and riding only minutes away - Mount Snow!!!.
Snowmobile from the driveway of the home right onto Vermont VAST trail system.
The Haystack Mountain/Ridge trail head walking distance from the house. The trail leads to the summit of Haystack Mountain and then continues along the ridge line of the Southern Green Mountains to the summit of Mt Snow.
The Harriman Reservoir is a treasure in itself. The reservoir is used for power generation and by rules set long ago the lake and the surrounding land remain undeveloped and open as public recreation area from sunrise to sunset. The lake is fed by many mountain streams and rivers and in the sun light there's a nearly 10 foot visibility. Perfect for water sports from fishing to water skiing. Boat launches and picnic areas can be found at several areas around lake. Rentals of boats, personal watercraft aka "jet skis," canoes and kayaks are available at boat launch at far north end of reservoir (Rt 9).
Enjoy!!!
