About this property
Charming Space Next to Everything, Walk Anywhere!
Park the car the duration of your stay and feel at home in quaint little Ashland town. Spacious and artistic decor is perfect for recreation or executive stays. Our little neighborhood home in the flats of the Historic Railroad District, circa 1890, could not be closer to Ashland's local jem spots including OSF, Lithia Park, Ashland Food Co-op, restaurants, and shopping, all a quick easy walk away. Completely private, clean, and convenient.
Permit: (17-00969) Ashland Artisan House.
The space
Our home is filled with color and light. Built in 1890, it has been said to be a brothel/laundry house in days gone by. Fully private and fully furnished with covered porch, double head walk in shower, double celled window shades, garden, fully loaded kitchen, wifi, cable and internet. Newly offered is a brand new stackable washer/dryer beside the refrigerator.
For a good night's sleep, we have comfortable arrangements with either the king bed in the loft space or the custom pull out queen size couch in the living room is as cozy as your own bed with a 10” Spring Air mattress (pump is hung in a basket under the window in back of the sofa).
The bathroom is easy access on the main floor.
The owner/artists live on the premise between their 2 studios. J. Garloff Design artistic lighting pieces are featured in the home as well as in the gardens.
This is a non-tenant rental agreement.
Guest access
The house is yours. There is a locked door at the back of the kitchen leading to the owners living space and art studios.
Interaction with guests
If you have any special requests or need more accommodations, we would be happy to help you find additional space for your entire party within our neighborhood. We are open to meeting you, just say the word however your privacy is important and respected.

About the host
Hosted by Mori and John Garloff
John is from California originally and I grew up in Chicago. We are both artists and live on the premise in our own private space between our studios. John and I have lived in Ashland for 27 years. First in the mountains above town and for 20 years in this beautiful home. Our sons are grown and we would like to share our available space with travelers. Our home is in the heart of the flats known as the Railroad District and has been said to have been a brothel and laundry house in days gone by. There is everything you may need to make your stay comfortable and memorable.
Why they chose this property
After living in the mountains 32 miles from town, down an eight mile dirt road, and off power, John and I decided to move our family down to town. It was time for us to socialize with young families such as our own, get active in our community, and experience town life. For 2 city slickers that grew up in large cities, Ashland is quaint, friendly and small. The cows moo in the outskirts of town and it is as picturesque as any calendar! It's a total European feel and we are both first generation American.
What makes this property unique
We have lived in what is now your living space so we know it was set up and furnished just the way we would like things. We love our home and it brings us joy to share it. We both love to travel and we have the home set up as we would like our stays. The sleeping accommodations are comfortable because we know a good nights sleep is essential. It is wonderful to have everything in close proximity including OSF, Ashland food co op, library, post office, parks, swimming holes, hikes, hardware store, galleries, and restaurants.
