R&R Cabin Lutsen

This vintage 1940's log-sided cabin is a delightful retreat year-round that feels secluded but is convenient to shopping, hiking, and skiing. The cabin sleeps 6 in 3 BRs (2 queen, 1 with twin bunks). A massive deck overlooking Lake Superior with adirondack chairs, an outdoor dining table, and a gas grill, extend the living space during warmer months. In winter, the big stone fireplace and picture windows looking over the lake make for a cozy place to snuggle up with a book, play games, or just relax after a long day of skiing at nearby Lutsen Mountain or the Sugarbush XC trail network.

R&R Cabin has been owned by the same family for nearly 60 years, and many long-time repeat guests have become part of our "R&R family", with 3 or more generations considering this "their" family place on the North Shore.

Note that there is high speed Internet, but no TV, dishwasher, or clothes washer or dryer.... but loads of books, art, and handmade pottery and textiles. If you are looking for a modern hotel-like place, this probably is not for you. If you like a place full of character, quirky personality, cozy, and with a great library, you will love it!

Strip any used beds and gather used towels

Turn off the lights and lock the doors

If you have excess kitchen garbage, take it to Isak Hansen Hardware on HWY 61 North of Lutsen, put in dumpster uphill from the store. Tell clerk at register the # of bags, and charge to PIFER ($4/bag)

Wash dishes and put away. Look for labels to guide storage. Pull all shades down in living / dining area. Make sure all windows are closed and latched. Lock sliding door, and put wood dowel in track.

Turn off fireplace and all lights, and turn heat down to 55. Unplug coffee maker and toaster. Lock front door.

Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

Such a wonderful cabin, in a great location. So much to do in the area, but honestly? We mostly sat and watched the waves from the amazing deck. It is such a place of peacefulness and calm. I can’t wait to return.

We had a wonderful week at R&R. It was so nice to relax, sit by the lake, play games, go hiking and visit Grand Marais. The winery is just up the road for a nice night outside with music. The cabin was just right for our group and we so enjoyed sitting on the deck and looking out at the lake. It had everything we needed to cook in the kitchen and on the grill outside. We hope to be back!

This premium property is beautifully located in some of the best dark skies perfect for stargazers and astronomers alike. The cabin is beautiful, compact with grounds for exploring shore and wildlife. Hiking, biking trails very close by. If you need to “check in with yourself”, a wonderful place to let the trees, plants and birds show you importance of the stepping off and slowing down in a slower pace. Prepare to feel and see through the hustle of every day life and enjoy the most amazing “family room” with an 80,000 ft. Ceiling (I’m talking about the deck)!!!! Also the cabin is well appointed for cooking and/ or many very close eateries near.

I am usually nervous to book vrbo’s but this one had 10/10 across the board so I thought - why not? We could bring the dog and there was plenty of room for us. The cabin is cozy, inviting, peaceful, full of charm. Books, art, the lake right out the windows… we could not have asked for anything better. The beds are comfortable! The fireplace was a perfect spot to just hang out. Thank you for sharing this gem - we hope to be back!

The cabin is a wonderful time capsule to the 1940s with its knotty pine throughout! I wouldn't change a thing. It's beyond cozy and we wish we could have stayed lounging on the comfy couch for days!

Our stay could not have been more perfect! From booking to checkout, we felt welcomed and comfortable, knowing we had support if we needed it. Ann did an excellent job of communicating with us and promptly responded to all messages.The cabin was clean and welcoming, a great mix of rustic and updated for modern conveniences.Things we loved: The location of the cabin (right on Lake Superior); the wall-to-wall windows overlooking the lake; easy access down some stairs to the rocks; the expansive deck; and the wooded property that felt rustic and private but also was just a stone’s throw from conveniences like Lockport Marketplace (do not miss their homemade pasties)! We loved it so much that we immediately booked again for next year!

We were there over Christmas and our stay was lovely! The location is amazing and the view from pretty much any room in the cabin is spectacular. It snowed on and off during our stay which made for an especially cozy time. When it did snow, the immediate area around the cabin was kept clear/ plowed regularly which made it easier for daily hikes. The cabin is furnished nicely while still feeling rustic and comfortable which shows great care and attention to detail. Ann was always gracious and accommodating and responded quickly to any questions. She let us know ahead of time that the northern lights were visible days before, so we tracked them and were able to see them on Christmas eve which was incredible. I highly recommend a winter stay at R & R! This was by far one of our best family holidays yet!

We loved our stay at R&R! It was our first time visiting, and it definitely won’t be our last. The perfect balance of cozy and quaint, but also stocked with anything you may need. Ann has been very responsive and communicative during any questions that came up. The one thing I will note is that there isn’t much direction on what to do at the end of your stay. In regards to assisting with taking out trash or piling linens. We were able to dump any garbage at a public site as we didn’t want to leave outside (keep critters at bay) and also didn’t want to leave garbage inside (as we picked up dog poop at the end of our stay) and didn’t want that lingering inside.We were immensely grateful for our stay and truly loved it!

What a wonderful place! The cabin is charming and full of character: designed for function and comfort with books, artwork, and thoughtful lighting at every turn. And Oh, what a view! We explored the shore and watched the waves from the expansive deck during daylight hours and stayed up after dark playing games at the big dining table. The host left her contact info and was responsive to questions during our stay. We would have loved to stay longer! We can't wait to come back.

Perfect restful getaway spot. Despite the smoke we had a wonderful weekend looking out over the lake & then enjoying some time in Grand Marais. Perfect location 1.5 hrs from Duluth, 20 mins from Grand Marais, 10 mins from Cascade & Blue Fin Grille right across from Lutsen skiing, hiking etc. and right on superior. House feels like a loved and treasured home and was very clean & easy to find everything for cooking etc. Will definitely be back! Thank you for sharing your wonderfully retreat with others!!

This property is the perfect North Shore getaway! It is "right off the beaten path" but so private with no other cabins or people in sight. It felt like your own private beach. Cabin is clean and well stocked. It has a beautiful deck overlooking the lake and a great firepit area too. We really enjoyed our stay here

R&R is a wonderful place to experience Lake Superior. The lake is RIGHT THERE. Every minute you spend at this cabin, you're aware of the lake, and it's latest mood - that can change by the minute. R&R is very private, the kitchen is well equipped, there are a million books and games, and it is just plain comfortable. It's everything you'd want, to enjoy the endless list of unique experiences on the North Shore, and nothing more. We will be back.

This cabin was perfect for our family of four and the location was fantastic. The cabin was well stocked with essentials and communicating with the host was very easy to do. You can tell Ann cares about her guests and making them feel comfortable. We had no issues with our stay.

My parents bought this place when I was 1 year old. It feels totally remote, surrounded by woods and the big lake, but is convenient to stores, coffee shops, skiing and restaurants.
