Very private waterfront getaway, close to tourist attractions, time to refresh
Come to Casco, Maine, a quaint town with a population of 3750. We offer a picturesque and idyllic setting off Thompson Lake on 'The Heath', known for canoes, kayaks, birds, and fishing. NO MOTORBOATS! You will lodge on a large parcel with 885' of private lake frontage and sunset view.
The Heath is a small, secluded body of water that offers pleasant meandering along its hourglass-shaped shoreline. Paddling along the forested portions of the shoreline you will hear the raucous calls of red squirrels and blue jays mixing with the pleasing calls of chickadees and nuthatches. There are a few small docks along the shoreline, the occasional canoe or kayak pulled up into the brush, and only the occasional flash of a camp hidden in the woods. For the most part the Heath is a very wild and wonderful paddling experience. Fishing is excellent on the Heath: Pickerel, Chain Whitefish, Landlocked Salmon, Largemouth bass, Northern Pike. Four canoes and two kayaks available for use on the premises.
Thompson Lake Marina is located only 1/2 mile from the house, where you can rent a motor boat or pontoon and enjoy the day on beautiful, crystal clear Thompson Lake. It is in the top 5% cleanest lakes in Maine.
Ammenities included are: linens and towels provided, full kitchen with dishes, pots and pans, large screen tv, books, board games, internet access, washer and dryer, use of 4 canoes and 2 kayaks with paddles, onsite fishing poles,

The property was just as described, the home was very clean, the grounds were beautiful .
The host was very quick to respond to all questions and very helpful. The home was very clean, comfortable beds, nice furniture, complete kitchen, great wrap around deck, beautiful forest and lake front with kayaks and canoes.
We had a nice relaxing stay with nature surrounding us.

We are thrilled you had an enjoyable stay. It was a pleasure to host you and we highly recommend you to other renters.
The property is quaint, clean, comfortable and quiet. If you like to fish, it doesn’t get much better than The Heath. Property owners are great. We have been coming back for several years now. Highly recommend if you want to get away and unwind.
This is our second summer at the house. Janet was very responsive to our commutations and the house is neat, clean and well stocked with kitchen ware. It is a quiet, cozy, comfortable location. And for those who like fishing, the Heath is some of the best bass fishing we have ever enjoyed.

Listing said on the water but it was a hike to get down the steep hill to get to the dock, no beach area. Code for door entry was incorrect twice, WiFi incorrect on email. We were cold, lack of blankets. Could have been cleaner. Overall it wasn’t bad. The police showing up one night at next door house was a bit unnerving. Owner very responsive.

Hi JoAnn-
I'm so sorry to hear you were cold during your stay. We keep fleece blankets in the bureaus and we have electric baseboard heaters in each bedroom. The WiFi information is in the binder on the desk under the rv. I had messaged you regarding the police incident, but you must not have received it. A neighbor's sister was concerned that she had not heard from him and called for a wellness check on him. All turned out well.
Cabin was wonderful, fishing was awesome! We enjoyed the cabin so much that outside of going to Naples and Bridgton for dinner and shopping we stayed at the cabin fishing and kayaking the entire week! We got to see the resident fox almost every evening and plenty of beautiful birds and hawks, as well as the loons on the lake! If you are looking to relax and unwind this is definitely the place to go! Janet was great and was quick to respond to any questions we had!
The cabin was everything they said it was and more. We have three teenagers and going somewhere with everyone being happy is hard to find but when we were loading up to come home everyone said they didn’t want to leave and then when can we come back. It was close to things to do if you wanted but far enough away to relax and sit by the fire or go out in a canoe and fish. We can’t wait to come back.
The owner was very quick to respond any time before and during our stay, which was greatly appreciated.
The setting is quiet and beautiful, but do note that there is a neighbor right across the road, but all was quiet.
PSA: for anyone with mobility issues, the walk to the lake is quite steep, but for those who can make it, is definitively worth it - so nice and peaceful!
We got rained out one day and spent quite a bit of time in the cabin. For this, the living room furniture could stand to be replaced, but overall, our stay was very relaxing.

Hi Val - thanks for your nice review. It was a pleasure to host you. We have a new leather couch and chair on order. Wish it had arrived in time for you to enjoy it. All the best.
Nice quiet place to relax and enjoy time away. Our first day was rainy so we enjoyed time inside and playing games. We fished almost every day with decent luck. The large porch is great for enjoying the outdoors but would be nice if the view of the water was a little better, being the middle of summer all the leaves are on and everything is full limiting the view. The walk down to the water is a decent length but overall not bad. The rooms are a little small but worked for 4 of us. The lighting inside is quite dim though.
So this is my second time in a month i came to Maine and stayed at this house in Casco. I love this place!! Janet is so friendly and helpful! With the nice weather i got to use one of the small boats on the private lake just right in the back of the house. House itself was perfect for me. Had everything needed. Its nice and private on a private road. Just one house across the way but 2 times i was there i never saw anyone. I can't wait to go back again! You may not get phone signal there but wifi is strong.

Cobwebs and spiders
One bedroom had no windows and was little bigger than a closet. Felt bad having my son stay there. All bedrooms had cobwebs and spiders on the shelves in the room. There was no table inside or out to eat on. Bathrooms were updated and nice. The living area and kitchen were clean but several dishes were dirty. It w is a beautiful location but did not swim because access was difficult without dock

We strive to make every renter’s experience a positive one. Our cleaning crew spends a minimum of two hours vacuuming, dusting and cleaning. Our goal is that everyone has a relaxing, refreshing and memorable time.
We recently purchased a 16’ aluminum dock as an added amenity. At the time of this review we were waiting for a missing part to arrive before launching. It was not listed as an amenity because we weren’t sure of the exact launch date. We have a 10’ deck in addition to the dock. The new dock will enhance ease of access to the water.
Although we do not have a formal dining table and chairs, we do have a 10’ breakfast bar with stools for dining. We also have several chairs and 3 side tables on the deck if you prefer to take in the scenery and eat outdoors.
Our smallest bedroom, approximately 8x12, accommodates a queen size bed with end table and a closet for clothes and storage.
Lake View is minimal and a lot of stairs to get to lake.
Overall Cabin was nice. I didn’t know the bedrooms were downstairs. Sitting outside was nice on the upper balcony. There was a bit of travel to get to anything around us. Oh, dissapointed recliners on couches didn’t work. Overall, I was looking for better lake access and my mother could only walk down once with help but overall I enjoyed it and it was very clean and the shower was very nice also I also wish there was a foot peddle trashcan and more lights in the bedrooms downstairs. Be careful when balcony is wet it is slippery in areas! The dirt road was a challenge as we barely could get through going up or down due to people working on a cottage. Listening to the sound of a nail gun and tools isn’t what I anticipated on the balcony or in the living room either. But I’m sure it doesn’t happen all the time and it was okay. Thank you for your hospitality at your cabin.

Hi Alice-
Sorry about the neighbors building project while you were there. We did not know they were going to be there. They came up from New York and were here a week. We would definitely have let you know in advance, had we known ourselves.
Beautiful, clean cabin style home. Owner was wonderful especially with communication. Perfect spot if you're looking for a quiet getaway. Loved that kayaks and canoes were provided for our use....we went out daily to fish, explore, relax, and enjoy the wildlife.
The setting was perfect for our girls trip. Plenty of space for the 4 of us. Beds were a bit firm, but they didn't bother all of us. Having access to the canoes and fishing gear really made the trip. ☺️
The Heath is great for fishing. We were able to take some floats out and swim from a little deeper in. Near the dock is muddy and very weedy but it makes up for it in how private it is by the water. Long walk to the water with a lot of stairs but nothing crazy. Cabin has a nice living room for rainy days but there are also some hidden gems within a half hour if you want to venture out.
This is a comfortable cottage in a peaceful spot on the quiet end of Thompson Lake. Three cozy bedrooms downstairs, and the main living area upstairs. It’s about 100 yards down a few dozen steps to the lake. This part of the lake is great for kayaking, although it didn’t look as inviting to swim. It’s a nice walk of about a half mile to the marina, and there are several places to visit a short drive away. Overall a great place to spend a relaxing week - this was our second time here.
We loved the cottage's isolated setting; there is only one other house within 300 yards. The cottage sits on a bluff about 30 feet above the lake. There is an easy path down the hill, and a good view of the lake from the back deck. The muddy bottom makes the lake not particularly swimmable, although the water is quite clean and was warm when we were there on July 4. Excellent kayaking and canoeing on the lake; no motor boats allowed. The cottage is clean, newly constructed, and what you would expect. It slept four of us comfortably in two bedrooms, which meant we had a bedroom to spare. Two bathrooms is a plus. We aren't fishermen, so we can't comment on the fishing; but the house provided an abundance of fishing gear.
Lovely property situated on the Heath of lower Thompson Lake.
It was clean and welcoming with lovely views and lots of towels!
Accomadtions were confortable for a very pleasant stay.
Thank You!
I stayed in the Casco area few times now and this place was one of the best places i stayed! The house itself is beautiful! Big living room area to relax, 3 bedrooms downstairs. This is on private land on a private road. Only 1 other house across the way but i never even seen them. Very private! Beautiful walk down to water in the back of the house where some kayaks and canoes await. Janet was super nice and made everything easy and simple. I will most definitely stay here again on my next trip up. Thanks again Janet!
Amazing! Our second stay here! Love the location! Perfect get away! Very peaceful! Janet is amazing! Really accommodating
Thank you Janet!

About the host
Hosted by Janet Perkins
We are an active family who loves the outdoors, nature and peace and quiet here in Maine. We recently sold a rental property in the city and converted it to a rental property in beautiful Casco, Maine. We want to share this beautiful, scenic hideaway with others who have the same passion for the outdoors we do.
Why they chose this property
This property has it all. The minute you arrive, you are awed by the silence of all the hustle and bustle of life. It is the ultimate getaway for those who want a week or two away from the busyness of every day life. There is nothing like the sights and sounds of nature with no neighbors in sight.
What makes this property unique
This property is unique because it is located on The Heath, situated at the end of 12 mile Thompson Lake. It has not been developed and is a very private and special gem. You will fall in love with the deck view. This is a fisherman's dream. You can canoe, kayak, walk the private road, visit the nearby Mariner and dine out in the neighboring towns of Windham or Naples, with 10 minutes of the property.
