We love this location! Simple but functional space on a nice property with trails. We saw over 60 species of birds on the trails on the property while staying, as well as monkeys, coatis, possums, etc. Great spot for people that want a quiet space in the woods, and only a few minutes drive from Santa Elena/Monteverde.
We loved staying in the woods with nature surrounding us. The cabin is rustic, but had a wonderful view, hammock, and repurposed wood throughout. The host was wonderful and gave us a great night tour on our first night!
The host was very helpful. Our party did not speak Spanish, so host played middle-man and ensured that we were able to order a delicious dinner from the neighbor.Very responsive as well.
If you’re looking for an authentic Costa Rican experience, Casa la Paz is the place to stay. The hosts were extremely responsive. The place was really clean, and beautiful. They even leave some organic coffee to try out! If you’re looking for an incredible experience , go ahead and book Casa la Paz!
Worst place I’ve ever stayed. It was very hard to find and the shower has exposed electrical wires. We stayed one night and wanted a refund for the second night due to the shower safety issue which could result in death. They didn’t grant this.

This house is rustic, yes, but there is no danger of death and no exposed, uninsulated wiring. This review is quite misleading, at the least. The heating system for the shower is an on-demand shower head; while some parts of the installation are visible, including insulated wires, they are properly protected—much like the wiring that powers a television—and do not pose a danger. Our system has been operating for more than 10 years, and our handyman has double-checked it. This system is commonly used in many areas of the country. While the house is rustic, it is surrounded by nature and is gorgeously quiet; it is a place for guests who focus on nature rather than luxury.
The property was very rustic but we loved it! It was the perfect spot for our family just outside of the Monteverde area. The driveway is very steep so they are not kidding when they say you need a vehicle that can handle it. Our kids loved watching all the leaf cutter ants around the property and hiking some of the trails. The sunset was beautiful. Our first night the wind was very strong but the second night it was much more calm. We saw a gecko and a different kind of lizard on the back patio. It was also very nice to be able to do laundry. If you are up for an adventure I would recommend staying here :)

Disliked: Check-in
It's in a beautiful location but it's very rustic. It's basically a cottage or cabin in the woods. They need to add or turn on more solar lights outside because it's down a hill and it's pitch dark at night time so it's not easy to access.
The rustic experience was not short of breathtaking views of the sunsets! The bathtub was a nice touch and the beds were way more comfortable then expected. It has all cookware we needed and the trails around the property were fun to explore. Super close to Mt Verde made it easily accessible for our cloud Forest adventure.
We absolutely loved it here. Beautiful view in a tucked away jungle setting. It's a bit rustic but thats part of the charm in my opinion. I would stay here again!
Greeted by sweet neighboring dogs that checked on my entry and salida. Quiet only for sounds of nature. Comfy cabin! Enjoyed exploring the are- night hike did not disappoint. Fantastic stay!
The cabin was great! I was very clean and very cozy, the views however, are not quite as they’re pictured due to the growth of the vegetation but they are still great!
This place is the best for getting away. Unplug and relax and just enjoy what is there around you. Distance to santa elena and monteverde is not bad at all and easily drivable.
Just what the doctor ordered! Peaceful, beautiful, felt part of the greater community. Host connected us with local guide and home cooked meals. The home away from home. Thank you for sharing home and community.

Hello Heather, thank you for such a lovely review. We hope to have you back soon.
Casa la Paz is a quiet and rustic hideaway. Don't expect luxury, but do expect lots of birds, hidden trails and a great location. It has a steep driveway, you'll need a 4x4 to reach the house. It's about 15-20 min drive from the centre of Santa Elena and the entrance to most bosque nobuso Monteverde activities.
We loved our stay in this cozy cabin. The location was stunning although I would not recommend for someone with mobility issues as the walk up/down is steep but there are stairs. The place is rustic and there were some bugs, after all it is literally in the jungle. I thought it was charming. It is the rainy season so the trees grow quickly and thus the view was obstructed. The property manager was very attentive and answered all of our questions. Would stay here again, no doubt.

Charming home- very steep
Veronica was lovely but in addition to the steep roadway (for which you need a 4x4) the walk into the house is also quite steep.
We also had difficulty with a ferocious dog that chased my husband. We stay3d only one of the three nights paid.

It is true there is a steep driveway and people need 4x4 to get down to the house, which was told to the guests when we gave them directions. It is also true there is a wheel-chair ramp down to the house and there is a sturdy railing next to it. It is moderately steep walkway, but this is the first time anyone mentions having issues with it. It is not true we have ferocious dogs/dog. This does not make sense in light of our having different guests all the time. It is true the neighbors' dogs come visit, but people have told us they really enjoy their company and we personally know them and they are super friendly. They do bark, and perhaps if you are a nervous person who is afraid of dogs, you may confuse barking with ferociousness.

Perfect Stay, Amazing Location
Our stay was better than we could have imagined. The cottage is roomy and comfortable with everything you need – we were able to cook meals, but the town is also close enough to get supplies and go out for dinner too. The owners provided the most amazing coffee beans so you could make a perfect cup before heading out for the day. The cottage has unbelievable views and we could even see the bay right from the front window. We did a lot of bird and wildlife watching right on the property, and saw birds, a sloth and even a fox. The porch even has a porch swing with a view!! The location is great for heading to the cloud forest for hiking and bird-watching and the owners had great recommendations for guides and activities. We had a rental 4x4 so it was very easy to get around to see the sights. The owners also have a Sustainability Center down the valley and it was a great stop both coming and going. The Sustainably Center is in a beautiful area and the owners were so welcoming and knowledgeable. They run a small market on Saturdays and it was one of the highlights of our trip – fresh local food, vegetables and fruit. The cottage and owners were wonderful and we cannot wait to return.

We really love it when people take the time to walk the trails and look for wildlife and just enjoy the peace and quiet and the beauty all around. We are even more delighted when the wildlife cooperates as it is not easy to see a sloth, and these guests did! The only two houses on the farm are our two rentals, so the wildlife have made it their safe haven and specially birds come to drink from the pond and eat of the fruit trees.
It is a little oasis, yet very close to all the exciting activities in the busy town of Santa Elena-Monteverde.
We also feel it is our duty to recommend the best places so you get the maximum enjoyment out of your time with us without paying an arm and a leg... happy to be of help and happy to have our guests who help us carry on our work at the Center
