About this property

Natural Setting on Quiet Lake 1 hour from Portland, Newly installed internet

Quiet location on small lake for a quiet get away or retreat - a writing, crafting, art, meditation time, or just a beautiful Maine relaxation week a few feet from the lake? What ever!!! But water sports and hiking are certainly available in the area too.

Max 2 person. Full kitchen, 3/4 bathroom with shower, front room (living and dining) overlooks Pleasant Pond. Deck with patio furniture out front door of cottage. New internet installed last year.

Cottage has 100 feet of lakefront, and is 10 steps from the clear, freshwater Maine lake with loons (and usually 2 babies!) nesting across the way. Resident great blue heron is seen quite often. I've actually seen a loon swim under our dock - very exciting to see him so close!!! Ramp to dock and stairs to water from dock, for swimming, as well as tying up kayaks or canoes, or small power boat. (Boat ramp available on other side of lake.) Swimming is refreshing, and water is clear. Fishing is available, although I'm not much help in that area.

Pond has a few power boats on the weekends, but mostly Patio boats, trolling skiffs, Kayaks and Canoes are in residence. Lake is 1 mile by 1/2 mile, with an inlet and outlet to explore, and a sand bar extends out near the middle. It is 60 ft deep just off our shore.

The cottage was totally renovated in 2019. Wood floors and knotty pine interior. A queen bed in the one bedroom, which is 'open' to the front room, with pocket doors that can be closed for privacy. Large trestle table for dining or crafting. Front of cottage is totally windows for the southern and western view of the pond , which includes exquisite sunsets (of course!!).

Access is on a well kept private road. The town of Turner is delightful, has a grocery store, a convenience store/sandwich shop, hardware, laundry, and library . The larger town of Auburn is about 15 minutes from Turner, which has more amenities as needed (larger department stores etc), including a nice artist presence. Bates College Dance festival is in full swing during mid summer. Nezinscot organic farm is 2 miles away in Turner. Turner Highlands Golf Course is up the ridge behind the cottage. Portland is about 1 hour from the cottage.. New Internet installed.

Beautiful Rustic Location on Scenic Pond

We really enjoyed our stay here. Everything was well maintained on the property and the owner was very responsive on a couple items we asked about. The location is quiet and has a beautiful view of the pond with a small dock for your kayaks/canoes. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway on the water.

Cute, cozy and peaceful couple retreat

Anniversary trip to slow down and reconnect. Lovely views and quiet peaceful surroundings but not too far out of the way to enjoy nearby bigger cities or grab essentials at the grocery. Thankful to owner for sharing this wonderful place for a restful stay!

Sunset retreat for two on Maine pond

Had beautiful sunsets and kayaking with nice cottage perfect for the two of us and our Lab who loved swimming. Owner very responsive to concerns about neighbors barking dog. Also very flexible on checkin and checkout which we appreciated. New dock entrance is good improvement.

Loon Retreat

I love this quiet lake with the frequent sounds of loons calling. The pond is small enough to easily kayak around with wooded areas, beaches, and homes. View lovely sunsets from the deck or inside with the huge picture windows onto the lake which you can view even from bed. WiFi is now available this year. I do lots of reading. This was my 4th year staying for a week in July.

Peaceful, Relaxing in a Magnificent Setting

If you are looking to unwind and be immersed in nature, this is for you. Carol, our hostess was very gracious and kind. The cottage is immaculate and the views are spectacular. You feel as though you are in a tree house. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. We spent 4 days, only wished we could have stayed longer. We are looking forward to our return next year. Thank you Carol for sharing your little piece of paradise with us. Barry and Maria

Pros and Cons

The cottage was lovely with a beautiful view of the lake. There were a few unexpected negatives. It was difficult to park on the sloping hillside down to the cabin. It wasn't the owners fault, but nearby neighbors were very noisy and their dog barked at our cabin much of the time. The owner did her best to make our two week stay enjoyable but it wasn't the quiet getaway we had hoped..

Peaceful, special place

We have just spent a delightful week in this special place. A older cabin on a beautiful lakeside lot has been totally renovated to create a comfortable, compact, very clean and adorable get-away spot! The furniture is new and comfortable, the kitchen is equipped with everything you might need and more, and there are many special touches that made our stay feel easy and fun. The new window give spectacular views of the pines and the lake and we loved the comfortable bed with lake view, the front porch for meals and morning coffee and the dock for sitting close to the lake. The lake itself is clear and lovely and is wonderful for swimming and kayaking. We found it to be very quiet and peaceful. We loved seeing the resident loons right at our dock and also saw beavers, turtles and a fawn, all swimming in the lake! Carol is a helpful and sweet host and her place is a gem- we hope to return soon!

Beautiful view, quiet and peaceful!

We returned after a wonderful stay in 2022. We would be delighted to visit again next year... Carol's cabin is wonderful! We loved the quiet lake, the abundant wildlife, the calls and views of the loons, the easy landing for kayaks and swimming, and the dock for reading, loon watching and sunset views. The inside dining table with surround windows gives a beautiful and comfortable spot for meals and games. The deck overlooking the water is an amazing bonus... drinking morning coffee while looking over the lake is a treasured experience. The cabin itself has everything you could need. There is heat and air conditioning for extremes of temperature, the bed is comfortable and has lake views. The kitchen is well equipped, and the living room is very comfortable with lots of seating options. Host Carol takes great pride in the property and is responsive, helpful and delightful! Thank you!

Property as described, a very cozy getaway right on the lake. Kitchen is well stocked. We canoed the lake, and some of the notable wildlife we saw included loons, barred owls, and a fisher. Great hiking nearby also. Host communicated very well, and check-in couldn't have been easier. Thank you!

Absolutely wonderful stay at the cottage. The place was very clean and very comfortable, it was quiet and peaceful as advertised and there was great communication with Carol, the host, who made us feel welcome and comfortable the whole time. The lake was amazing, plenty of kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming and a perfect place to relax and unwind. Will definitely be booking another stay next year.

The host Carol was professional and gracious. The cabin was clean and had a cute home feel. The bed and sofa were very comfortable. The cabin in pet friendly and the deck is great for beautiful sunsets. The access to the pond is great for kayak/canoe. The gravel road however is not great to walk with small breed dogs.Medium size active dogs ok. My small dog was happiest on the deck. I would rent again in a heartbeat.

Peaceful retreat

The cabin on pleasant lake was just as advertised. Newly renovated and very comfortable. Having coffee with the Loons was a great start to the day. It's a small lake so not a lot of boat traffic. The kitchen has all you need, so bring your food & drink and enjoy the Maine wilderness. Thank You Carol for everything.

Sweet Cottage

Cottage was immaculate and access to the water great. Beautiful sunsets too! Enjoyed a paddle around the entire lake, seeing and hearing the loons. So quiet and tranquil. My rating of 4 was due to neighbors dog and the grill. I was hoping to barbecue but the grill did not appear safe and was a bit rusted. Otherwise I highly recommend!

About the host

Hosted by Carol Sadler

Host profile image
I have retired from a career in Portland, Maine and have spent lots of my last 15 summers at the cottage next door to this rental. These 2 cottages were in my Maine ancestry, and I was recently lucky to be able to purchase this second one, and get it renovated.

Why they chose this property

Turner is a delightful small town, with an active community. July 4 parade is awesome - the whole town is there!!! Also, we had 30ish boats in the Boat Parade this 4th. Tuesday nights are folk and fiddlers at the Gazebo near the library. The lake is quiet with little boat activity, and too small for large diesel boats. I hope you will like the area as much as I do.

What makes this property unique

The sunsets are phenomenal, of course. The activity of the loons always keeps me entertained, well into the night when you can still hear their calls (what do they communicate about after dark, I wonder!) The lake is clear and refreshing. Paddling the lake is perfect!!! Turner is country-ish and out of the hubbub, but close enough to Auburn for Movies, Colleges, department stores, etc.
