Welcome to Northwood, the Maine home of your dreams. Located on Long Pond with lakefront property and wooded coverage. Endless opportunities for your perfect vacation - fishing, swimming, kayaking, shopping in Bar Harbor, or hiking in Acadia National Park. Or, relax in our quiet haven - sitting on the wrap-around porch to read, enjoy cocktails, and catch a stunning sunset.
The house has 4 bedrooms and 2 baths, sleeping 8-10 people. Please note that the bedrooms feature a funky and unique interconnected design. 2 bedrooms, each with queen size beds are nestled on the 1st floor. Guests access the second set of bedrooms, each with a set of twin beds, via stairs within each 1st floor bedroom. What makes the space interconnected is there is no door to separate the first floor and 2nd floor bedrooms, just a staircase. While some may say this lacks privacy, we think it’s a great way to get comfortable with your vacation crew. Guests who sleep upstairs would need to walk through a 1st floor bedroom to access the rest of the house.
There are two full bathrooms, both on the first floor - one with a shower tub and one with a shower stall.
The kitchen is equipped with an oven, microwave, toaster, blender, drip coffee maker, mixer and all the usual kitchen utensils. The stove top is an electric 4-burner retro Jenair. The refrigerator is a side by side with an icemaker and water in the door. Off the kitchen is a screened-in porch, perfect for breakfast / lunch or just to sit and enjoy the lake views.
We have 3 Kayaks available for you to take for a spin on the lake, life jackets provided as well. Kayaks can be launched right off of the dock.
For local attractions we love Beech Mountain, just up the road, for a easy to moderate hike with amazing lake views of Long Pond and ocean views off the southern end of the island. Northwood neighbors a local farm, Beech Hill Farm, where you can find organic vegetables, meats, and other local goods. Groceries, shopping, and restaurants can be found across the island - Northwood is 13 min to Southwest Harbor and 20 min to Bar Harbor or Acadia National Park.
We’re so excited to share our family’s summer home with you - this house has been a pivotal part of our summers for more than 40 years.

Very nice house on an amazing lake. The lake is truly incredible. My whole family agreed that we could’ve spent more time in this area with the lake and the national park next-door.
We fished every day and enjoyed the peaceful call of loons. Enjoyed family dinners and time together relaxing. This cottage is in close proximity to the park and we enjoyed the nearby hiking trails and biked the carriage roads. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!!!
Perfect for families. Quiet, peaceful, clean, close to everything! My young men of 22, 18, and 13 loved it! We spent quality, electronics free time together😁. Game nights, kayaking, hiking, enjoying the peace and quiet of the lake. Kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. It was perfect. Communication, ease of check in, house rules, everything. 5 stars.

Glad you and your boys such had a great stay, look forward to having you visit again!
This place was close to everything you want to do near Acadia. Beds were very comfortable and the house was very private. We thoroughly enjoyed coming back home everyday after a long day of hiking ! Views were great also!
This property is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. It is in a prime location on the island to do day trips to Bar Harbor or Acadia. It's tucked away from the main road, which makes it a peaceful place to unplug and unwind. The house was well stocked with all of the amenities of home, including board games and DVDs for rainy days. During the day, the dock is the perfect place to swim, fish, or launch a kayak. In the evening, it's the spot to watch the sunset, listen to the call of the loons, or stargaze. Heaven!
Steve was a very helpful host who answered questions promptly and saw to a fix within a matter of hours of a faulty water heater. The house has a beautiful location with a large dock on a clear mountain lake with sunset views. Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island offered more than we could do in an entire summer. We'd definitely stay again!
Great stay for family. Stairs to second floor and dock difficult for grandmas

beautiful lake in a great area of Maine
Hi Steve ,
We really enjoyed everything in SW Harbor , Long Pond , and Bar Harbor . The lake views at the house , sitting on the deck are perfect in the morning and late afternoon . The layout of the house is a little strange so definitely need to vacation with family or people you know super well since the upstairs guests have to come down into the downstairs bedrooms. The main thing that I would recommend is newer sheets/linens and towels . They were a bit worn and the fitted sheet for the upstairs had no elastic so kept coming undone . There were a few lights that did not work . Also would have been nice to use the BBQ.

Hi Ada
Glad you had a good stay at the camp. The layout is odd, as we mention in the description of the house. Thank you for the feedback on the linens we will be investing in new ones for next season. Not sure why you couldn't use the BBQ, can you please let me know why you couldn't use it so future guests don't have the same issue.

A perfect location to visit Acadia National Park.
My family and relatives spent a week at Steve's property Northwood on Long Pond. It was a perfect combination of close proximity to the park, Bar Harbor, Cranberry Islands while being able to retreat to a beautiful view, porch and dock with gorgeous sunsets, sound of loons, swimming in pond. Steve was responsive and helpful with suggestions and tips before and during stay. House was comfortable with all amenities. A broken sewer pipe caused some distress, however this was fixed quickly. I can highly recommend Northwood as a vacation stay.

Great Memories that will last a lifetime
The house is amazing! Every morning was spent on the dock with kayaking. Close to the carriage road for bike riding and hiking. Spent evenings either at dock or at Bar Harbor. Such a great vacation, great house, great location! They even had 3 kayaks for us to use, so we only had to bring one. I would definately rent this house again!!!

About the host
Hosted by Steve
This is our family’s summer home. My sister and I live in Southern Maine and our brother lives in Virginia.
Why they chose this property
This has always been a special place for my family, when we were growing up our parents would bring here for the summer to escape the heat of Philadelphia. There is no better place to escape in the summer, unwind, enjoy the quiet and the beauty of the lake and Acadia National Park.
What makes this property unique
Get away from it all. The house faces west, and has spectacular sunsets. The lake is beautiful and the other side of the lake is national park, so there is nothing to spoil the view. From the moment you drive down the big hill to the house you feel like you are truly escaping.
