About this property

Elegant Oceanfront 2BR Home. Vast Panoramic Views, Steps to Kehena Beach. A/C.

The Jewel Box is your private oceanfront retreat perched above Kehena’s ancient lava cliffs. From the lanai, sweeping ocean views unfold—sunrise, sea spray, and the pulse of island life. Dolphins and whales pass by too. This fully stocked home is a short walk to Kehena Black Sand Beach, perhaps the most magical place on Hawai‘i. Nearby, Volcanoes National Park is a breathtaking place to explore—and if Pele, Hawai‘i’s volcano goddess is stirring, you’ll be close enough to witness her fiery dance!

From Your Host

"I didn’t set out to become a host—I just stumbled into paradise and couldn’t keep it to myself. Kehena’s wild beauty, lava cliffs, and soulful rhythm pulled me in. Now I get to share it with guests from around the world. The Jewel Box is my gift to travelers: a little sea spray, a little lava, and a lot of soul. I hope you feel the magic here, just as I did."
—Adam

Oceanfront living — panoramic views of the Pacific from every lanai
Two private king suites — each with ensuite bath and ceiling fan
Fully equipped kitchen — modern appliances and pantry basics
1-Gig high-speed Wi-Fi — peaceful corners perfect for remote work
Smart TV, books, and board games for quiet evenings
Stargazing deck — your private spot to watch the Milky Way appear

Guests occasionally see dolphins or whales (in season) right from the lanai—though sightings are a matter of grace and timing.

The home was once managed corporately but is now lovingly hosted by its owner, Adam, who welcomes each guest personally with warmth and aloha.

The Neighborhood

Uncle Robert’s Night Market (Wednesdays): 5-10 min drive. Music, food, art, and community
Pāhoa Village: 20 min drive. Local shops, eateries, bakery, and weekend farmers markets
Seaview Drum Circle (Sundays): 5 min drive / 15 min walk. Sunset drumming and dancing at Seaview Park—a joyful, free‑spirited local tradition
Kaimū Farmers Market (Saturdays): 5-10 min drive. Fresh tropical fruit, hot food, crafts, and live music in a lively open‑air setting
Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park: 45 min drive. Explore lava flows, tubes, and volcanic landscapes

Guests have full access to the entire home except for the downstairs small exterior studio, which is used for storage and housekeeping supplies. Only our cleaning team accesses that space though you’re welcome to carefully walk down the steps to the lower deck and enjoy the unobstructed view.

At night, here you can relax under the stars —the sound of waves below, the vast Pacific beyond, and a sky alive with constellations. It’s a phenomenal spot for nighttime magic.

I’m Adam Weiss, your personal host and the proud owner of The Jewel Box.

I’m available throughout your stay by text, phone, or email. Feel free to communicate with me as much as you’d like!

My on-island cohost lives in the neighborhood and can assist if anything comes up.

While the main living areas rely on natural airflow, both bedrooms are equipped with whisper‑quiet split A/C units for guests who prefer cooler sleep.

A Note on Nature: Jungle Life at Kehena

The Jewel Box is a beautifully designed oceanfront home nestled in the lush Kehena jungle, where nature is vibrant, present, and part of the experience. We do our best to keep nature outside, but this is the jungle — and it likes to mingle.

You’ll likely see our friendly house geckos, who are harmless and considered good luck in Hawai‘i. Insects are also part of daily life in this part of the island. Most are harmless and simply curious, especially in the evenings. On occasion, guests may see mosquitos, ants or coconut beetles (sometimes called blister beetles). They’re attracted to light and can wander in at night through open doors. They’re not aggressive, but like many tropical insects, they should not be handled.

This is an authentic jungle environment. If you’re not comfortable with close‑up jungle life, this home will not be the right fit. Please be sure you’re fully comfortable with this natural setting before confirming your stay.

Inside the home, the main living areas rely on natural airflow, while both bedrooms are equipped with whisper‑quiet split A/C units for guests who prefer cooler sleep.

Home includes free parking and an exterior security camera for safety.

Safety Notice

The Jewel Box sits on natural Hawaiian lava terrain with uneven surfaces, steep drop‑offs, and powerful ocean surf below. The home includes multiple balconies and a detached lower platform that require awareness and care.

Children & Supervision

Because of the rugged landscape and elevated areas, this property may not be suitable for toddlers or young children. Active adult supervision is required at all times, especially on balconies, stairs, the lower platform, and anywhere near the lava rock.

Ocean & Shoreline

The shoreline below the property is not safe for swimming or direct access. Waves and currents can be extremely dangerous, and the lava rock is sharp and unstable. Please enjoy the coastline from a safe distance.

Guest Responsibility

By booking, guests acknowledge these natural conditions and agree to use caution throughout the property.

The Jewel Box is a real gem! Of all the vacation homes I’ve stayed in, this truly was one of the best. It was comfortable, clean and as pictured in the listing. Morning coffee on the lanai to watch the sunrise, the sound of the waves throughout the day and night. The amazingly blue water……just can’t beat it.The kitchen is stocked with every appliance, cooking/baking pans and utensils. Bathrooms stocked with soaps and plenty of towels. The bed (main level) was super comfortable (extra firm mattress which we prefer). Access to washer and dryer was also a plus.We drove along the Kalapana coast stopping in the numerous pull-off spots. The drive to McKenzie State Park is gorgeous! Pahoa is the nearest town and there is a Longs/CVS store if you need anything and that is 15-20 minutes away. Hilo is an hour, as is the Volcano. We visited both from here and enjoyed coming “home” to tranquility each day.Adam is a wonderful host! He checked in with us to be sure we were settling in and with recommendations where to explore. We miss the Jewel Box already!

Aloha Patricia, Your thoughtful review means so much. I’m glad you found The Jewel Box comfortable, clean, and exactly as represented — and that those mornings on the lanai with the sunrise and the sound of the ocean made your stay special. Awesome that you took full advantage of the Jewel Box's location by exploring the Kalapana coast, McKenzie State Park, Pāhoa, Hilo, and the Volcano. Thanks for your kind words about my hosting. It was a pleasure welcoming you, and I would love the opportunity to host you again whenever your travels bring you back to this part of the island. Me ke aloha pumehana, Adam
