Beautiful little house just about one mile from Lake Michigan. We enjoyed our walks to the beach and getting to climb the sand dunes.
House is just around the corner from a small store that had a little bit of everything. Van Buren National Park is just a short walk from the house. Definitely would recommend and would go back again.
Very neat and tidy. We loved the quieter location away from downtown, but quick walk to Dunes and short drive to State Park, Downtown and N. And S. Beach.
We had an overall great stay. I actually really liked that the property is away from the busyness of the main area of South Haven but no more than a 10 minute drive if you want to go there. We loved the close proximity to the beach at Van Buren Park, how well the air conditioning units worked, and the large yard and privacy. The space worked well with a two-year old toddler too!
The only reason I wouldn’t give it a perfect 5 star rating is the water is definitely a little brown so just be prepared to bring or buy some filtered water for drinking. There were also some small bugs like ants and spiders, but to the owners’ credit we saw preventative measures around to take care of them and understand it’s hard to completely get rid of them with all the nature around. Finally, just a few recommendations to make the place even better—a foam topper on the bed in the bigger room would do a lot to improve comfort, as well as some small bedside tables.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for those who want to be a little closer to nature but not too far from the main area of South Haven!
We loved our stay here! The cottage was clean and beautiful, and it's minutes away from the beaches and shops. We could not have asked for a better location or home to stay for our trip. Highly recommend!
We were back and forth to family in South Haven so it was nice how close this was. This little home is very comfortable and clean and we really appreciated coming back to it each night. The hosts made the home very welcoming and all the little extra amenities they provided were a nice touch. They have a welcome book that was very helpful also. The one thing that we might suggest is lifting the step up to the house in the front. A higher step would’ve helped my husband who had recently had knee surgery. Great little home though, we would definitely rent again here.
Dune Cottage was our first time using VRBO and was perfect for our beach and biking trip. My 11-year old twins loved the bunk beds, the grill, and the evenings by the fire pit making s'mores: the cottage provided all the s'mores ingredients and sticks. My wife loved the outdoor setting and declared we were moving there shortly after arriving ! The beds were very comfortable, as was the entire well appointed and maintained cottage. From the living room with interior doors open we could see out through the windows of all four walls of the cottage: lots of light. It was a beautiful 25 minute bike ride to South Beach on the paved Van Buren bike trail a few blocks from the house, and we also loved North Beach in South Haven and Silver Beach in St. Joseph. We grilled 2 nights out of 4 and had breakfast all 4 nights, everything we needed to cook was there; my only suggestion is it would have been nice to have had a dishwasher, and a checkout time of noon instead of 10 a.m. A great vacation experience, we plan on coming back next year !
A group of three of us stayed at this property. We enjoyed its cleanliness and amenities. We watched the sunset at van buren dunes each night & spent some time in south haven. Would stay again
The lot of the Dunes Cottage is spacious and well kept. We especially enjoyed the firepit and the ample space in the back yard. The amenities were plentiful -- extra towels, accessories for the bath, extra flashlights for after dark. The only constructive criticism I would give is to to maybe provide some outdoor lighting, like LED sconces, on the deck. It's hard to see at night unless a fire is already going in the fire pit. Thanks!
The overall experience was very good. The place was neat and well-appointed, and we appreciated the outside eating facilities. There was some difficulty with the key holder box, but it was being addressed by the owner. Reasonably priced, within a5 minutes of South Haven.
Nice little place , had everything we needed.
Neighbors are quiet. There is a school bus stop at the end of the driveway where 1 parent waited but it never bothered us. We took our bikes with us and were able to leave right from the house to the bike trails at Van Buren Park. The host is quick to respond and pleasant. The beds could use an upgrade but weren’t terrible. Bonfire pit is perfect! I would stay here again ! Thank you for sharing your home with us.
The place is very well stocked and clean. It's super close to a dune and the lake. There's a lot of attention to details in decor and supplies, including a small stash of tampons and first aid stuff. The host left a thank you card for us and a triple berry jam. She also has a guest book on the counter. Just so cute!
The overall location of this house is great. A few minutes from the Van Buren State Park, which has a beach (rocky, bring water shoes), dunes, and beautiful views of Lake Michigan. It is a very short drive to South Haven, which has several lovely and sandy beaches, a cute downtown area, and a big wooden play structure outside for kids. Not a lot to do if it's rainy out for young children though. We also brought our bikes, and biked to town in on the Van Buren Trail, which is very close to the house as well. The house itself could use a little TLC. Quite a few spiders, ants, and other insects inside. The water is hard water, so we bought bottled water from the local store across the road. The fire pit outside was wonderful though, and the view of the stars from the fire pit is amazing. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and made good use of everything around.
We really enjoyed our stay and would return to this location if we were visiting that area. The rate was reasonable and my family of five would heartily recommend it.
Older home that has been updated. The listing was accurate small range and laundry but very functional for our group of six.
Had a campfire and made s'mores. Bedrooms were comfortable.
Would rent again. Be careful of the main entrance, there is a big step to the lawn.
Nice property. Met our needs. Outdoor space was fantastic. A little further from downtown south haven (8 min drive) then I would have liked but overall great place.
I’ve stayed at this property three times so far and every single time it’s the same experience - absolutely amazing! The cleanliness of the house, the accommodations and the location. Just perfect! As long as I’m welcomed again I’m definitely coming back.
We had a great time! The house was perfect for the family and we got to spend a lot of quality time just hanging out!! Thank you, will definitely stay again!
If you are a nature person, this is your spot! Beautiful coastline, and a bounty of wildlife especially for bird watchers. The property owner was extremely attentive and available at the drop of a hat. South Haven is a short drive and a beautiful little town. Lots of places to explore.
After we arrived at the cottage. We noticed a few broken items : sliding glass door in bedroom would not lock without help from a stick, blinds missing on sliding glass door in bedroom, blind in bedroom will not close, broken lamp, unclean shower floor corners have noticeable build up . And worst was the mattress on the bed in the master bedroom it was Awful ,very overused with a clear body welt. I texted owners with our dislikes. They decided to interrupt our Bike trip making us wait till they arrived to discuses and possibly fix and problems?? New mattress? after they arrived they barged right in. I know this is their property but give your guest some privacy please. Yes this situation put me off. And only after I was told NO! the mattress was fine. I became angry and a bit loud as most Italian descendants do. but on a mild scale.
It was clear the property management was not aware of the broken items. As I stated to them " I understand it's the end of the season so broken items but this bed is awful!" which we were asked to leave. Yes they kicked a single mom and 2 older teens out of the cottage at the beginning of our trip on a Holiday weekend . Really??
Thank You Vrbo representative for finding us a place to stay.
this manager run the Yellow cottage as well. Beware!!!
