A DAY IN THE LIFE AT CAMP RAVEN ROCK

Greetings, Campers! Welcome to ‘Camp Raven Rock’–a luxe version of year-round summer camp with gorgeous mountain and farmland views and a creekside setting.

This spacious and unique property is a destination in and of itself, and it’s the picture-perfect setting to unplug and unwind. Our cozy cabin sleeps 6 comfortably in 3 bedrooms with 2 full bathrooms.

Wake up with a cup of local Smoky Mountain Roasters coffee, Asheville Tea Company tea, or French Broad Chocolate Company hot chocolate. Head out to a porch rocker where you’ll have a front row view of Plott Balsam Mountain.

You’ll also be treated to the serenade of song birds with Plott Creek providing the background music. It’s the perfect place to relax and map out your day’s activities from our selection of local guides and literature.

If you can tear yourself away from camp, spend part of your day hiking from our curated list of recommended trails off the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Mountains to Sea Trail (12 minutes) or Great Smoky Mountains National Park trails (40 minutes).

Alternatively, spend the day in Camp Raven Rock’s enormous field and park-like setting, playing one of our many yard games, picnicking, practicing yoga, or even sledding if there’s snow!

If you start feeling homesick for ‘city life,’ head into Waynesville (10 minutes), Lake Junaluska (12 minutes), Maggie Valley (15 minutes), or Asheville (35 minutes). Cataloochee Ski is only 30 minutes away, and our cabin has a ski rack and boot dryer waiting for you after an exciting day on the slopes.

Camp Raven Rock’s magic continues as the sun sets. After washing up with local Hazelwood Soap Company products, light up the grill for a camp-inspired cookout, or make a meal in our well-stocked kitchen with a focus on high-quality tools and appliances.

Then gather around our smokeless Breeo Fire Pit (wood provided) for ghost stories, s’mores, and maybe even a camp song or two! Or soak away your aches and pains from the day’s outdoor activities in our soothing hot tub.

When you’re ready for some indoor time, choose from one of our many board games or puzzles while listening to regional music on vinyl or CD. Or connect your own playlist through the cabin’s Bose bluetooth speaker. You can also cozy up next to the fireplace, perhaps in the home's Pottery Barn massage recliner with a book from the camp library, which focuses on regional literature and history.

If you’re craving some screen time, our Roku entertainment system will connect you to the outside world through your streaming accounts. High speed Wifi connectivity is also available if you’d like to send someone an email and let them know how much fun you’re having at camp.

Camp Raven Rock guests also have special permission to stay up past their bedtime, so be sure to head back outside to stargaze in our field before turning in (telescope and star guides provided!).

When you can’t hold your eyes open for another minute, snuggle into our comfortable beds for a good night’s rest and sweet dreams. The king bed in the primary bedroom has an adjustable frame, so feel free to elevate the mattress for some reading before bed. Or if you’re craving even more mountain fresh air and a glamping-style experience, we highly recommend sleeping on the front porch’s cozy bed swing.

Camp Raven Rock is a destination where unforgettable memories are created and traditions take root. Our goal for your stay is that you leave feeling restored, refreshed and well cared for, after spending time in a location that feeds your heart and soul. We hope you’ll return year after year to unplug and unwind!

This property and host were both outstanding. I don’t generally leave reviews either positive or negative. The house was exactly as billed. The hot tub was perfect. The view was beautiful. The location was so close to everything but in the mountains. I wouldn’t change anything about this stay.

About the host

Hosted by Nancy East

Host profile image
We weren't born in the mountains, but we got here as fast as we could nearly 30 years ago.

Nancy was a veterinarian for 22 years before she retired to pursue a career in outdoor education and writing. Larry is a Certified Financial Planner for Wells Fargo Advisors.

We are parents to 3 children (and 1 dog child), avid outdoor adventurers and volunteers on our county's search and rescue team and ski patrol at Cataloochee Ski. We aim to treat our cabin's guests with extraordinary hospitality.

Why they chose this property

Plott Creek Valley is one of the most serene and scenice settings in all of western North Carolina.

What makes this property unique

Camp Raven Rock sits on nearly 5 acres of private land, comprised of an open field and woods. It's setting creates unique opportunities for field games (we have several for guest use), star gazing (we have a telescope and star guides waiting for you), yoga (we even provide yoga mats), and picnicking on our gorgeous knoll where a Polywood picnic table awaits. We have a backpack full of picnic supplies in the cabin, too.
