About this property
Spacious 1763 updated family house in the town that time forgot
“Le Reve”, the owner’s mother’s dream, is a large classic historic home, perfect for your family gatherings or visits to the nearby St.Thomas Aquinas and Mt. Hermon schools and Connecticut Valley. We think you will love it as much as our family has for decades.
This white clapboard, grand center stair case home is set back from the road on 11 acres, with beautiful planted perennial gardens, stone walls, fields, and woods, yet is only a two minute stroll to the Warwick town center, with its lovely town library and classic townhall, with many local activities.
The house has period details, like a massive central staircase, antique hardware, and virgin pine 12” board floors , but has been updated, with modern kitchen and bathrooms. The huge open kitchen is a cook’s dream, with ample counter space, appliances, large microwave, gas stove and complete dish, silverware, glasses service for more than 12. The large dining room table is waiting for your family feast. Upstairs, there are three large bedrooms, with queen or full beds, and one smaller single bed room available, as well as one full bath room with tub and shower and one large working bathroom with a decorative, but inoperable, clawfoot tub. Downstairs, there is another full bathroom, with ADA shower. The house comes fully furnished with linens and towels, cleaning supplies, coffee, and tea.
At Le Reve, your family can play badminton, croquet, and bbq, or just laze in a hammock, amid the gardens around the house. The screen porch has a long table for summer meals. Inside there are board games, children’s toys, an extensive library, wood burning fireplace, a TV for streaming, and a historic collection of vinyl records and record player. There is also wifi. There are ceiling fans in every room, as well as ample off street parking, a back up generator, and solar panels. A caretaker couple live in the adjacent apartment and are available to answer questions. Please respect their privacy and make sure you take off your shoes in the house to preserve the 200 year old floors.
Warwick is the town that time forgot. It lacks a gas station or a store, so come prepared, but has a working farm, Chase Hill, with farm stand, and acres and acres of state forest and protected land to hike and ski, beginning just across the street from the house. You may even see, behind solar powered electric fences, animals grazing on the fields adjacent to our house. The trails to Mt. Grace, the highest mountain in Massachusetts east of the Connecticut, are only a 5 minute walk away and these connect to the M&M and other trail systems. There is swimming and skating from five to fifteen minutes away by car at Laurel Lake, Clubhouse Pond, and Moore’s Pond.
Only ten minutes away by car are the St. Thomas Aquinas and Mt Hermon schools. There are good restaurants in nearby Bernardston and Gill. Within 45 minutes are the restaurants, schools and museums of the Connecticut Valley, including Brattleboro, Keene, Deerfield, Amherst, and Northampton.
So whatever brings you to Warwick, you will have an experience to remember fondly. We love and use our house and enjoy hope you will enjoy it as well.
