About this property
Lakefront Single Level: Dual King Suites & Dock
The magic of Northern Nest is its uninterrupted connection to the water and the expansive lakeside sunroom, where massive windows frame the pond like a living painting.
The smart, dual wing layout puts the bedrooms on opposite sides of the house, King master suite and guest bedroom on one side and King guest room with living room futon on the other. Giving families and groups the perfect balance of shared social space and total evening privacy. From the striking blue kitchen to the rustic wood finishes, the vibe is relaxed, functional, and quintessentially Maine!
LIVING AND ENTERTAINING Life at the Nest centers around the views with the sunroom and main living area offering a huge, light filled space for the whole group to gather, recharge, and watch the boats go by.
When it is time to unwind, you’ll have high speed Wi-Fi and a Smart TV, plus a dedicated workspace for those mixing business with lake life. There is even an included backup generator to ensure your peaceful retreat stays powered up no matter what.
KITCHEN AND DINING The kitchen is a bright and social space that makes group cooking a breeze. It comes exceptionally well provisioned with everything from a lobster pot for a traditional Maine bake to an air fryer for quick snacks.
Whether you are prepping a big family breakfast or just brewing coffee to take out to the dock, you will find everything you need right at your fingertips. The dining area sits right next to the sliding glass doors, allowing the lake views to serve as your backdrop. It is the perfect spot for a seafood feast or for a fun evening of boardgames after the sun goes down over Long Pond.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS Privacy is a priority here, with the bedrooms spread across separate wings of the home. One side of the house features a primary king suite with its own bathroom and the third bedroom is perfect for kids or friends, offering two twin beds with a view that looks right out over the water and the guest bath. While the other side hosts a second king bedroom with a private entrance leading straight to the front porch and the living room futon.
The guest bathroom is a total game changer for lake life, it features a direct access door to the backyard, so you can head straight from the pond to the shower without tracking water or sand through the main living areas.
Full laundry facilities are also available in the home, making it easy to pack light and keep your gear fresh throughout your Acadia adventure.
OUTDOOR SPACES The outdoor setup is what makes Northern Nest truly special. The large lakeside deck is equipped with a propane grill and an outdoor dining table, creating a seamless flow for alfresco meals. From the deck, steps lead down to the grass and straight down to your private dock with a swim ladder.
Being just steps from the back door to the water means you can spend your days swimming, fishing, or simply soaking in one of the most beautiful settings on Mount Desert Island.
Not sure where to start on the water? Just three minutes down the road, Ponds End offers a public boat launch along with a kayak and canoe rental shop, the perfect way to explore Long Pond's hidden coves without bringing your own gear.

Why they chose this property
Northern Nest is a rare "Quiet Side" find that trades steep stairs and cramped lofts for a spacious, single-level floor plan designed for effortless lakefront living. Situated directly on the shores of Long Pond, this home is built for those who want a private, functional basecamp for their Acadia adventure.
The Split-Wing Advantage: The home’s layout is its greatest secret. By placing the bedrooms in separate wings, King master and guest room on one side and King guest room and living room with futon on the other. We’ve created a perfect balance of shared social space and total evening privacy.
Dual King Suites: With King beds in two of the three bedrooms, this home is ideal for two couples or families who want equal comfort without compromise.
Private Entry: One King suite features a private exterior entrance, allowing early risers to slip out to the water without disturbing the rest of the group.
Instant Water Access: At Northern Nest, the yard meets the pond. There is no long trek or shared path to reach the water.
The Private Dock: Your own deep-water dock with a swim ladder is the centerpiece of the stay—perfect for morning coffee, swimming, or launching a kayak at sunrise.
Shore-Access Bathroom: A dedicated guest bathroom features a direct door to the backyard. Head straight from the pond to the shower without tracking water through the main living areas.
The Sunroom: A massive lakeside sunroom with wall-to-wall windows ensures you are always connected to the view, even on a rainy afternoon.
Authentic Comforts: We’ve paired the character of a traditional Maine retreat with modern essentials: a fully provisioned kitchen (including a lobster pot and air fryer), high-speed Wi-Fi, a dedicated workspace, and a backup generator for peace of mind.
Located just minutes from the Beech Mountain trailheads and local kayak rentals, Northern Nest offers the authentic Maine lake life tucked away from the crowds.
What makes this property unique
What truly sets Northern Nest apart is its location at the "top" of Long Pond in the village of Somesville. While many Acadia rentals require a long drive just to find a place to launch a boat or rent gear, you are positioned in the most convenient pocket of the lake.
Gateway to Adventure at Pond’s End: Just three minutes down the road is Pond’s End, the primary hub for water activities on Long Pond.
Effortless Launching: Whether you are bringing your own motorboat or towing small watercraft, the public boat launch at Pond’s End provides easy deep-water access just moments from your driveway.
National Park Canoe & Kayak: No need to haul your own gear across the island. One of the island’s most iconic rental shops is located right at Pond’s End. You can rent high-quality canoes, kayaks, or paddleboards by the day or week and paddle them right back to your private dock at the Nest.
The "Quiet Side" Advantage: Staying in Somesville offers a peaceful reprieve from the hustle of Bar Harbor while keeping you strategically close to the best of Acadia National Park.
Trailhead Access: You are minutes away from the Beech Mountain trailheads, offering some of the most spectacular panoramic views on Mount Desert Island without the crowds of Cadillac Mountain.
Historic Somesville: As the oldest village on the island, Somesville provides a charming, quiet backdrop for your stay. You are perfectly positioned to explore both the "Quiet Side" (Southwest Harbor) and the classic park loop landmarks within a short drive.
Modern Reliability: A unique benefit of this home is the full-property backup generator. In coastal Maine, summer storms can occasionally disrupt power; at Northern Nest, your AC, Wi-Fi, and kitchen remain fully operational, ensuring your vacation continues without interruption regardless of the weather.
