About the host
Hosted by Lizzie Konstanzer
Having grown up in Northern Virginia, the peacefulness and rugged beauty of the Outer Banks were where our family chose to vacation since the 1960's. I learned how to swim at the Old Sea Ranch Hotel (still there) and after having our two boys, my ex and I decided to leave our then home in Wilmington, DE for a new beginning in the Outer Banks. We moved here in 1995 - our oldest son was 1 1/2 and our next son was born here in 1998. My parents, my brother, and every single inlaw I have (almost) followed us here and our new lives began. Our sons grew up within a "holler" of their grandparents, aunts, uncles and the best family friends and neighbors. Frogs, lizards and turtles became beloved family members, as well as the occasional duck or injured bird. My ex and my sons have created a very successful real estate business and I dabble in antiques, gardening, collecting random objects, shelling and occasional attempts at painting or pottery. My parents built this beautiful home -my Dad was an architect and my Mom was a famous London model back in the day. (Another story) Most afternoons here are spent rocking on the porch, surrounded by wonderful friends and beautiful family. Life is idyllic here in the Outer Banks... oh, and did I mention I'm about to be a Grandma! :)
Why they chose this property
We were lucky enough to find this unique, private location when we came to visit our wonderful family friends two doors down. We stayed at their soundfront retreat every Memorial Day for several years, and eventually bought the lot next door. We love the quiet and the privacy on the sound - it's 9/10 of a mile to the beach, but it's a more peaceful and serene environment on the sound. The nature is amazing - ospreys, bald eagles, ducks, geese, cormorants, jumping mullet, trout and drum... Bay Drive has a beautiful walking path thats about 3-4 miles long all along the sound, and a boat ramp 6 doors down. So close to everything!
What makes this property unique
Our property sits on almost half an acre, and affords a lot of privacy and beautiful shade from the trees. It's a very unique situation, located far back from the street and as close to the sound as we could build! The sunsets are beyond amazing - a true gift every evening - never the same and always breathtaking. I think our house is different because it gives you a vintage, cozy cottage feel - a soundfront retreat for all your needs...
