About this property

Serene 2-bedroom cottage with detached bunk house for relaxing stays.

Lake Winnipesaukee Island Cottage with Dock, Sunset Views & Bunkhouse

Nestled on the south side of Big Barndoor Island in Alton, New Hampshire, this beautiful island cottage is the perfect setting for a peaceful Lake Winnipesaukee getaway. A protected dock, sheltered by a breakwater, overlooks the Broads, Rattlesnake Island, and Gunstock, with breathtaking sunsets each evening.

Built in 2022, the main cottage showcases exceptional craftsmanship and classic New England character, with post-and-beam construction, New England white pine, cherry braces, knotty pine beadboard, and wide-plank pine floors throughout. Vaulted ceilings create a bright, open atmosphere, and the great room features a stunning multi-paneled 8-foot opening door that opens to the spacious surrounding deck, blending indoor and outdoor living.

The main cottage includes two comfortable bedrooms, with a king bed in the primary bedroom and a queen bed in the guest room. Electric baseboard heat and a soapstone wood stove provide warmth and comfort throughout the main cottage.

For additional sleeping space and privacy, the detached bunkhouse includes a queen bed and a bunk bed, making it ideal for children or extra guests. Please note that the bunkhouse is insulated but unheated.

The cottage is well equipped for a relaxing stay, with Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen with an induction cooktop, refrigerator/freezer, and dishwasher, plus a full bathroom with a spacious shower. Potable water is drawn from the lake and is filtered and UV-treated. Guests may still prefer to bring bottled water for coffee or personal preference.

Outdoor enjoyment is a big part of the experience here. Guests have access to a canoe, two paddleboards, and a two-person kayak to enjoy the crystal-clear waters of Lake Winnipesaukee.

Whether you are enjoying coffee on the deck, a day on the lake, sunset views with a glass of wine, or a cozy evening indoors, this cottage offers the perfect place to relax, reconnect, and enjoy island life.
