About this property

Cozy Floating Retreat on Rondout Creek

Welcome aboard Houseboat River Queen, a cozy floating retreat docked on Rondout Creek near Kingston in the heart of the Hudson Valley.

Once you step aboard, you’re on river time.

Wake up to soft water movement, morning fog drifting across the creek, and coffee on the deck as boats quietly pass by. Spend the afternoon exploring Kingston’s waterfront galleries, restaurants, and shops, then return for sunset reflections and peaceful evenings on the water.

River Queen is designed for couples, solo travelers, artists, writers, and anyone looking for a unique escape from the pace of everyday life.

Our houseboat is a thoughtfully designed compact space. Ceiling heights are approximately 6'3", stairs, ladders, and bathrooms are narrow, which may not be suitable for all guests.

Please note: The houseboat is for stay aboard only and does not leave the dock

The houseboat is self contained and includes:
• WiFi /electricity/hot water
• air conditioning/heat
• full bathroom
• kitchen essentials

• peaceful marina setting
• short and long-term stays available

Located near Kingston’s historic Rondout waterfront, with easy access to Woodstock, Rhinebeck, Saugerties, hiking trails, galleries, and Hudson Valley day trips.

This is not a luxury yacht experience. It’s something slower, quieter, and more personal, a chance to experience life on the water in a way most people never do.

I have never slept on a boat and it was great. Occasionally a boat would go by a bit fast and the waves would rock the boat - that was interesting if I was standing but wonderful if I was laying or sitting down. The location was peaceful and exactly what I was seeking. I did get some work done but I was trying to take off a few days and the location, boat, and the length of stay were all exactly what I needed. The host was amazing as well. Nice, responsive, lived close by and hence was available if something went wonky. One warning - which was why I picked it. There is one restaurant you can walk to. The food was good but the bar area was small - with the ability to take your drink outside if you wanted and on nice days that was great. You have to drive everywhere else. Grocery store, C-Store, restaurant, etc.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. We’re so glad your first experience sleeping aboard a houseboat was such a positive one! It means a lot to hear that you found the peace and quiet you were looking for and were able to truly slow down and recharge. That’s exactly the experience we hope our guests have when they come aboard. Thank you for mentioning our secluded location. We love that guests can enjoy the peace and quiet of life on the creek while still being just five minutes from the vibrant Kingston waterfront. It’s a balance that makes the River Queen feel like a true getaway without being far from everything. Thank you as well for your kind words about us as hosts. We want guests to feel cared for while still having the space to enjoy their time uninterrupted, so we’re happy to know that came across. We’d love to welcome you back anytime you’re ready for more creek time!

My wife and I have called the Kingston area home for more than 40 years. I retired from a career as a design engineer, and my wife is an artist whose work is inspired by the beauty of the Hudson Valley and life on the water.

We enjoy meeting people from all over and sharing the unique experience of houseboat living. Whether you’re here to relax, explore the Hudson Valley, or simply slow down and enjoy a peaceful getaway, we’re happy to welcome you aboard and share this special place with you.

Why they chose this property

We love living along the Rondout because it offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and small-town charm. Watching the boats come and go, enjoying spectacular sunsets, with bald eagles soaring above~being surrounded by water and nature never gets old.

What makes this property unique

Houseboat River Queen offers something you won’t find at a typical vacation rental~a peaceful stay right on the water in the heart of Kingston’s historic Rondout waterfront.

Wake up to the gentle movement of the creek, enjoy your morning coffee on the deck as boats pass by, and end the day with beautiful sunsets reflected on the water. You’re just across the creek from waterfront restaurants, galleries, shops, museums, and live music, yet the houseboat feels like a quiet retreat from everyday life.

Thoughtfully designed to be cozy and comfortable, River Queen is perfect for couples, solo travelers, artists, and anyone looking to slow down and experience the Hudson Valley from a different perspective. It’s not just a place to stay, it’s an opportunity to experience life on the water.
