The property is in a good location. It needs to be modernised as there is no water pressure in the showers, the toilet downstairs is loose and wobbles.

We are delighted that you liked Chauffeur's Cottage and its surroundings. Thank you
Perfect cottage to enjoy the English countryside. Very accomodating hosts and our boys thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to catch and release fish as well as enjoy the nearby walks. Well situated for us to catch up with nearby family and friends, see the sights of the area or jump on a train to London.
Our week's stay was great, thanks to the lovely and practical holiday home, the welcoming landlords, the magnificent garden, the tourist information available in the sitting room, the many opportunities for walking (e.g. near the property - Vanguard way etc.) and for sightseeing...
I can’t say enough to convey how amazing our stay was here. My family and I were in the UK from the US and Canada and we loved our days spent out touring followed by peaceful and cozy evenings spent in the cottage. Diana was so kind and helpful, she walked through everything when we arrived and was wonderful to communicate with before and after our stay. Please go stay with them if you have the chance, I promise you won’t regret it!
This cottage was lovely to stay in! Hosts were very welcoming and cottage was big, more like house size which was great! Had all the facilities we needed like dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, as well as nice warm heating! Lake is right next to cottage and is really nice, plus cute ducks to look at. Surrounding area is beautiful, wish we could have stayed for longer! Property is close to main house but far enough away for privacy. Bare in mind some of the roads are very narrow and one way leading up to the cottage. A great quiet and rural location! Thank you for a lovely stay! :)
We stayed here at the end of 2021 and came back for new year 2022/23 as we liked it so much. The house is spacious and easy to live in, with lovely views out across the fields, wood, pond. The house is as presented in the photos. We like it's seclusion - it is a ten minute drive to any shops or cafes and is away from other houses. Ashdown Forest, the Pooh Bridge and Hartfield are close by (15 mins or so by car). Other things to do like Lewes, Charleston, Knockhatch Adventure Park are a decent drive away but very do-able. Diana is a wonderful host and she and her husband live on the same site in the main house.
We pulled up into the property and were greated within minutes by Terence and were given a quick tour of the cottage, garden and lake area. There was a bottle of wine and jamaica ginger cake (my favourite) left on the dining table for us. Diana popped by later on to introduce herself and check everything was ok. We felt really welcome by both and were told to knock on them should we need anything. We spent a week in the cottage, it was brilliant. Such a relaxing, peaceful place. Diana and Terence really are the perfect hosts, their hospitality and the way we were made to feel welcome was excellent. I would, without doubt, recommend this cottage to anybody looking for a quiet trip away. We hope to visit again one day.
The cottage was set in lovely surroundings, quiet and relaxing. The hosts were lovely people, nothing was too much for them. We had a really good week and the weather was kind.
Diana and her husband were fantastic, extremely helpful and very hospitable. The cottage was perfect for our little break, well equipped and set in beautiful surroundings with nothing but sounds of nature! Perfect! We will be back!
Oh, dont feed the chooks!
The property is a self contained house on the owners large property. It is private being 80yards from their house, and ‘facing’ the other way. It is 1 mile up a road that is single track in places, so hardly any passing traffic, just the sounds of nature to wake up to. We watched buzzards, bats and a woodpecker from our enclosed garden area, and lots of pond life. The accommodation is cottagey in decoration, and the owner has been very thoughtful in making it very well equipped. There are 3 single beds upstairs and a double bed downstairs, these areas are separate/private from each other, each with own toilet, so would suit 2 couples/groups.
This was our second visit and we loved it just as much. The grounds were beautiful in the spring and the cottage is lovely. The hosts are kind and friendly and are really happy to help with anything. Thanks!
The cottage is bigger than we expected and is so comfortable and homely. The setting is beautiful and remote but some of us didn’t drive and still got there easily with a short cab ride from Buxted station. Diana and Terence were extremely friendly and helpful,. The dog, Peggy and the resident chickens were a lovely bonus! We hope to come back and stay again soon.
We stayed at Morphews cottage over Christmas. There were 6 of us staying (all adults) in total. The cottage was spacious, with lots of room for everyone. The kitchen was well stocked, the lounge was very comfortable. The cottage is set in beautiful countryside and we took several walks down the lane. Owners, Diana and Terrence were very welcoming and available to answer any questions. Morphews cottage was a wonderful, relaxing respite for us. Hope we can stay again sometime.
We loved everything about this. A really remote, secluded location, the house was exactly as the website suggests and Diana was an excellent host. The house, is big, spacious, comfortable, plenty of storage and well-equipped (and exactly as shown on Vrbo - no nasty surprises!). Diana and Terence were excellent hosts, going out of their way to be helpful and kind. There is a huge variety of things to do (if you're prepared to drive) - Ashdown Forest, Poohsticks Bridge, Hever Castle, Lewes, Knockhatch Adventure Playground. Thoroughly recommended - we'd very happily go back.
The cottage is lovely and in a quiet rural location. It is well equipped and comfortable, having everything you need. We were made very welcome by the owners and the hens. We had a wonderful family break and would happily return.
The cottage was comfortable and had a calm and pleasant atmosphere. The grounds were spectacular, with a beautiful natural pond with fish and ducks. The owners hens were particularly friendly as they tried to join in with a yoga session in the garden. It felt a privilege to stay here and I have no doubt that we will return one day.
We couldn’t have asked for more for our stay: fresh air, wonderful views, countryside quiet, close to cycle trails, shops and other attractions. The cottage is fully equipped for the whole family and the owners have made us feel very welcome. We felt truly pampered - thank you Diana and Terence.
This is a good value for money property. The property is neat and clean with decent decor and a better equipped kitchen than most rentals. There is also plenty of storage space which isn't always the case with rental properties, making it easy to put away coats and spare boots so your aren’t always tripping over them. All of the rooms with the exception of the living room are quite large - and the living room would have been large enough even if we had been a party of six.
What makes this property special is the location, which is rural with loads of lovely walks right from your doorstep. We went walking every day and even though it was the Easter term break we rarely passed anyone on the trails. The views for the windows in the cottage were very picturesque and the owners could not have been more helpful. Also, whilst feeling remote you could drive to Crowborough or Uckfield in just over 10 minutes for groceries or take aways. We had a really enjoyable break and it was just what we needed after lockdown ended.
We have lived here since 1975 and enjoyed living in such beautiful surroundings which we enjoy sharing with and describing to our guests. Because we live on the property we are normally available to give any helpful tourist advice and ensure the smooth running of the cottage.
Why they chose this property
This property is situated in the heart of the AONB of the Sussex Weald which in Roman and Tudor times was the main iron producing region in Britain. The iron ore was used, amongst other things, to make canon ball to help fend off the Spanish Armada. We have a hammer pond dating back to this period and the remains of the bloomery and other workings of this industry can still be found nearby.
What makes this property unique
The main house is Arts and Crafts, and the cottage is approached through the archway of this house and is situated at the end of the drive in front of a paddock and next to a large unfenced pond well away from the road, surrounded by the beautiful and unspoilt Sussex countryside. On the opposite side of the lane is another pond, woodland and fields included in the grounds.
