About this property
Strawfields. Fantastic rural location. Close to beaches. Games barn and Alpacas.
Owl Barn is one of 3 cottages at Strawfields. Strawfields is an 8 acre small holding consisting of our farmhouse, three cottages, shepherd huts and a small rustic campsite. A fantastic location, hidden away in the beautiful North Devon countryside, yet only minutes drive from the sea.
Owl Barn is a very spacious 2 bed cottage with a sunny south facing enclosed garden with terrace and fields with streams to explore, a shared games room, trampolines and it's own BBQ. Close to beaches (Ilfracombe 2 miles, Combe Martin 5 miles, Woolacombe 5miles).
Owl Barn is a both child friendly and dog friendly. It suits both couples and families. The cottage has a lovely sunny private enclosed garden with seated patio area and BBQ, a perfect place to sit back relax enjoying the beautiful views across the fields. It has a large sitting/dining room with a log burner. The main bedroom has a king size bed, the second bedroom has 2 full size single beds and a futon pull out bed (suitable for children). There are acres to explore and a public footpath runs behind the property that goes to our nearest village, West Down, which boasts an excellent pub and village shop (1mile across fields).
For children there are a range of toys to suit all ages, including scooters, pool table, table tennis, swing ball, playmobile, lego and trampolines. Our relaxed friendly atmosphere will hopefully ensure that you have a fantastic holiday, however long or short your stay with us.
There is so much to explore , including 4 wonderful sandy beaches as well as many coves and rock pooling beaches. It is a great place for kayaking, surfing, dune sledging and coasteering. The Tarka trail is very family friendly bike riding route along the coast. Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, Braunton, Saunton, Croyde, Exmoor National Park and Barnstaple are all within 5- 20 mins drive. Guests are welcome to explore all of the grounds and there is a communal games room that is shared with the farmhouse and two other cottages.
There are fields to explore, animals to meet, sunken trampolines, streams to paddle in and an open fire pit to toast marshmallows.
We have an ever growing menagerie at Strawfields that you are welcome to come and meet; if you would like, do come and help us feed them too. At present we have 2 Shetland ponies, 2 Kune Kune pigs, 2 Pygmy goats, 3 cats, free range chickens and ducks, 8 Jacob sheep, one super child friendly dog, Inca, and now 4 beautiful Alpacas!
We are available at anytime during your stay, but also give you total privacy if wanted. If you need something please ask Alex or Nick. We live in the farmhouse, so always on hand for any questions you may have. We are able to suggest places to go including dog friendly walks and beaches to visit; we have lots of maps and brochures to help you choose your activities during your stay.
Parking is directly next to the cottage.
Travel cot/ bed sides, stair gate and high chair available.

About the host
Hosted by Alex

We had been dreaming of moving to Devon for many years, in the summer of 2014 we decided to pack up and make the dream become a reality! This is our story so far...
We relocated from Hook Norton in Oxfordshire, to North Devon in July 2014. I was under strict instructions not to leave ‘Hooky’ until the annual Beer Festival had taken place, so the following day we eventually said a sad farewell to all our lovely friends, and we shoe horned ourselves into the car, with everything including the kitchen sink, onward and forward with our adventure.
For the first two months we lived a fairly nomadic lifestyle, living in our faithful old bell tent, travelling around Devon, Cornwall, Wales and France. We had a fantastic summer visiting friends and exploring new places. However, with the school term looming it was time to find a home and start the new chapter of our lives. We rented for the first six months in Braunton, then found West Stowford Barton and best of both worlds, a crazy old house in a wonderful rural location and close to the sea. That was the start of Strawfields.
From then on in, it has been all the wonderful people we have met along the way that has begun to shape the next part of our lives. A huge heartfelt thank you to all the lovely guests that have already experienced a holiday in one of the cottages, huts or tents at Strawfields. We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all and hope you will return again soon. Also, a big thank you for all the lovely reviews you gave us, we really do appreciate all the comments you have left us.

Why they chose this property
Beautiful rural location, yet so close to the sea. Strawfields has three cottages, Hayloft , The Stables and Owl Barn. Across the fields over the stream in its own private field we also have a very small rustic campsite. Just a perfect place for children to play, enjoy and explore the outdoors, with trampolines, tree swings and slides. The beaches are amazing and there is something for everyone. Stunning coastal path walks, dog friendly beaches, caves and coves for rock pooling, loads of activities to do and attractions to visit. We have Alpacas, pygmy goats. Kune Kune pigs, ponies, chickens, sheep and one very friendly dog called Inca.
What makes this property unique
We fell in love with the space, the views and the freedom for the children to play outdoors safely.
