About this property
Casa La Huerta - The Orchard House - Historic Adobe Home
Welcome to Casa La Huerta! This authentic, Northern New Mexico-style adobe home hosts guests in the residential Rio Grande district of Albuquerque’s verdant North Valley. Leave the car behind and walk to local favorites like Flying Star Café – an eclectic eatery with something for everyone.
Enjoy outdoor spaces at the front and back Casa La Huerta, overseeing 1/3 of an acre with beneficial native plant species landscaping and scented by sunflowers, lavender, and our small fruit orchard. When they’re in season, feel free to step outside and pick fresh fruit from the trees!
With its single level, no stairs, and senior friendly bathroom amenities, Casa La Huerta is especially popular with our retirement age guests. Our no pets policy means that those with pet allergies breathe easy and enjoy a comfortable stay.
Interstate freeway access is quick and easy here. Enjoy a quiet neighborhood that’s nevertheless conveniently located to many attractions of greater Albuquerque.
Walking paths, orchards, lavender fields, wine vineyards, open spaces, and horseback riding await you. Don’t forget to bring your bikes or hiking shoes: This area is a cyclists and walkers’ paradise!
AUTHENTIC ACCOMMODATIONS + LOCAL CONNECTIONS
The main section of Casa La Huerta was built in 1890, and the home has undergone several renovations since then. Now it presents a great combination of authentic, vintage, and modern with wood/brick floors, talavera tile in the kitchen and bath, heated bathroom flooring, and a retro-style Wedgewood range in the kitchen. Ideal for seniors, couples, couples with young children, and friend trips.

Why they chose this property
At its heart is Old Town, just minutes from Casa La Huerta, the site where the original city was founded in 1706. Cobblestone streets and adobe walls characterize this neighborhood where Native American and Spanish cultures still mingle. You'll also find a certain level of kitsch, deposited from the hey-day of US Route 66 that runs through the heart of town. The downtown area's décor consists of neon signs and funky souvenir shops. Head farther out and you'll find expansive homes and lush vineyards in the North Valley, where Casa La Huerta is located, and Cottonwood Heights.
Albuquerque stays true to its roots. Hispanic flavors can be found in many of the city's restaurants (prepare for the ear-popping heat of New Mexico's favorite ingredient, the chile pepper). Native American arts and crafts adorn many a gallery window. But despite its old age—the city celebrated its 300th birthday in 2006—Albuquerque is nothing short of cosmopolitan, boasting funky boutiques, top-notch performance venues and exciting nightlife. To top it all off, the city's proximity to the stunning Sandia Mountains makes it a great home base for Southwest discovery.

What makes this property unique
Casa La Huerta was originally constructed in the late 1890's and was enlarged to its current configuration in the 1930's. It is therefore not configured like a modern home or hotel. It has abundant character and charm reflective of New Mexico, and is very much a historic showcase of what a modest family home in New Mexico was like in the late 1800's. This is what our guests rave about and enjoy, and what makes Casa La Huerta a special place and a very successful vacation rental. We take pride in delivering a clean, sanitary, safe, functional, well maintained and comfortable vacation residence that represents an unbeatable value for money.
