About this property
Stylish Spacious Studio Apartment, with Shared Pool & Games Barn
L'Ecurie used to be a stable and now it's a spacious studio apartment with country style kitchenette and wet room, like a boutique hotel room, but better (we think !) . It's one of a cluster of 4 individually styled character gites at La Fermette France, based in the sunny Poitou Charente region of South Western France (check our La Fermette France website) which share a 10mx5m pool, a Games Barn and a separate leisure field with boules pitch.
L'Ecurie feels really spacious with it's high ceiling and exposed pale honey coloured stone walls. The comfortable large double bed looks out to the salon area and the garden beyond. In addition to the well equipped alcove kitchenette there is a charcoal BBQ to cook your finds from the local markets, although there are also lots of very good local restaurants if you prefer to eat out. The gravelled terrace is bordered by shrubs providing privacy, although the hamlet is so quiet you are unlikely to be disturbed by too much noise other than the odd tractor!
You will also have access to a Games Barn shared by other gites, where you will find a selection of bikes to explore the country lanes, or maybe to cycle the 2km to the town of St Genis to collect croissants and baguettes for breakfast. There is also a table tennis, table football, body boards, boules and also buckets and spades for the beach to bring out the inner child in you and we'll also provide you with a beach umbrella…...
With your own separate gravel courtyard garden, a pool surrounded by hard standing and a large lawn plus the leisure field, there is plenty of space for as socially distanced holiday.
Check out our other gites:
816158; La Fermette traditional farmhouse, sleeps 6
6524558: L’Etable, our stylish child friendly gite, sleeps 4
6524559: Le Chai, stone barn with gallery bedroom sleeps 3

A wonderful find. A lovely studio holiday home in a secluded little hamlet. Spotlessly clean.

About the host
Hosted by Lesley Houareau

We are Lesley & Felix Houareau. We have always worked in customer facing roles and enjoy hosting guests in our French gites. We live in a village just outside Bath and feel very lucky that not only do we live in a beautiful part of the UK but can also spend time in the Charente Maritime area of France with it's historic towns, great beaches and also have access to some great local wines
Why they chose this property
We looked for a region with good weather but easier to travel to than the South of France. The Charente Maritime is the 2nd sunniest region of France and a hidden gem known about by the French. Lots of great beaches to choose from, great local food markets, rolling countryside with towns and villages with lots of character. We are in the midst of wine and cognac country with lots of places we can buy direct from the producer.
We are in a peaceful hamlet 2.5km from the nearest town but surrounded by fields of sunflowers, wheat and vines and lots of local wildlife. The myriad of lanes around our gites are great to explore by foot or bike (we have a selection of bikes on hand). We are close to the Bordeaux / Blaye wine region as well being able to buy the best Cognac locally, and only 30 minutes to the beach. Wine, good food, sun and beaches - what more could you want?

What makes this property unique
We love the original features that give our gites their character and each gite has been styled differently. The location is rural but not remote as the nearest town is only 2.5 kms away - close enough to cycle to the boulangerie. Our new swimming pool which opened in 2019 is very popular with our guests
