Thanks for your nice words and sorry about the coin meter, we don't like it either, but it was there when we bought the apartment and it allows us to keep our prices down. Glad you had a great holiday anyway.
Lovely apartment in a lovely area. Couldn’t be any closer to the beach. Local facilities good.
Owners of the apartment were very friendly and extremely helpful.
Would definitely recommend.
We have been goint to this same location for many years as it is so beautiful but this was the first time staying in this property and it definitely did not disappoint, in location, cleanliness and comfort, we had everything and more we needed. The whole experience from booking to departure was an easy pleasurable one. We definitely recommend it

Amanda, so glad you had a great stay at "Surfsounds" So many of our guests are many time repeaters which we love to see. Ref the washing machine, we used to have a washing machine installed, but it had a small leak one week and I saw the potential for a bad leak wrecking the natural pine floor that covers the whole of downstairs. This in turn could so easily trash our loyal customers holidays, if we had to replace a warped floor, so we deemed the threat to be too much of a possibility and took the machine out out.
It is a shame that dogs are not allowed on the beach in summer months but I can see the problem to small children playing in the sand, even though 90% of the beach is seawater flushed every 12 hours! The local by-laws say no dogs on the beach Easter day till Sept 30th, which does however leave seven months when they can run free and our winter breaks are very well supported accordingly. There are also tens of miles of coastal cliff walks which have no restrictions year round right on our doorstep.
We do look forward to seeing you again soon.

Our stay was very nice, well equipped apartment got everything in it for the stay except a washing machine, close to the beech, pub and breakfast cafe - only downside was had to put 3 pound in electric meter along with owner left 2 pound - no big deal really but price paid would of expected that to be included - we loved it and previous year 2022 stayed 2 doors away.

David we are so glad that you like our beach-side accommodation as we work hard constantly to make it as homely as possible. Regarding the washing machine, as most guest only stay for a week, It's usually not needed. I had worries from the start (15 yrs ago) about a washing machine leaking, as if it did it would trash the old pine floor which covers the whole of the downstairs. If a leak happened without warning we would have shut down the house for many weeks, to pull up the floor and re-lay it, causing serious havoc to all our guest who had booked. The electricity meter is not ideal and we do not like having it, but it seems the fairest way to keep our prices as low as possible, with constantly changing energy prices. We have found some people like to keep the house 'like a sauna' and some set it at 20c, so to make it fair you simply pay for the electricity you use. Typically, in the summer with no heating on it cost about £4-5 a week and this raises to about £3-4 a day in the mid-winter with a frosty outside.
I hope this helps with the "reasons why". We hope to see you again some time, Best regards, Bob & Gilly

Fab, fab, fab
Just wanted to say we (& our boys) absolutely loved our stay at Porthtowan. What a view! We had a fantastic week at your beautiful home. Everything was carefully and considerately labelled which really helped. Thanks for the milk and biscuits; they were a blessing when we arrived at gone 11pm. Everything was really well stocked and it was great not to have to run round for toilet rolls or kitchen roll. We want to book for next year!

Lovely apartment with a fantastic view.
Me and my family had a lovely week here in Porthtowan, the apartment was great, the view from the balcony is amazing, perfect position for body boarding or surfing or even just walking on the beach. The apartment had everything we needed and there was plenty of room for 2 adults, 2 children, loads of wardrobe space. Gilly is so helpful answering any queries before our stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment, we all had an amazing week in Cornwall.
Thanks for everything.

Thank you so much, it was a pleasure having your lovely family. Hope you will come again. Gilly
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your property, our stay was all about relaxing and that's exactly what we got and we were lucky to have perfect weather too, the local beaches with their crystal clear waters and stunning sunsets where couples and families gather every evening to see were perfect. Waking up and sitting on the balcony for breakfast and ending the evening with a glass of wine with the sound of the waves lapping and the view of the sunset made it special. Every little thing to make this comfortable for us had been thought of . The local shop is well stocked and very reasonable and the cafe serves great breakfasts. The property was clean comfortable and cosy, with lots of nice beachy touches .

Thank you so much guys for your lovely comments. We are of a like mind. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
Loved the position, we enjoyed our meals on the balcony, listening to the surf, watching the board riders, generally enjoying the view. During the day we either walked the beach (be mindful of the tides, nearly caught one day!) or chose the well worn path over the hill, where, thanks to the locals we discovered the coffee stop en route to the next village! The coffee shop soon became our destination rather than our waypoint!!
The local store was a gem, there appeared to be nothing they could not supply-we often took their sandwiches out for lunch, it was an absolute gem, lovely staff as well!
Super holiday Trevor and. Margaret from Australia.
First time my family and I have stayed in this part of Cornwall, but wont be our last.
The property is in an ideal location, 1 min stroll to the beach.. if that. The views are stunning from the little balcony, with views of the beach, sea and adjacent cliffs.
The property was one of the few that allowed dogs to stay and this was amazing for us to bring our 2 very small fur babies.
We as a family cant wait to stay here again - the atmosphere of the place is amazing, families on the beach watching the sunset go down having bbq's and no mess left behind.
The only criticism I had was that the property decor is dated (a little lick of paint and filler)and that the sink is cracked in bathroom which could be a potential hygiene issue. Another improvement would def be an outside tap to wash off the sand before entering the property.. however these are small issues and has not in the slightest deterred me and my family from returning to this lovely place.

Hi R and thank you for your lovely words and so glad you have fallen for our gorgeous part of Cornwall. I only wanted to say that I painted throughout when we were last able to stay in Surfsounds in April and, as it has been booked back to back since...and until mid November, there is no chance to do anything about the chips and painting till then. Glad that won't deter you, and we hope to welcome you back sometime. best wishes..Gilly

Porthtowan
As a last minute break, we hired the cottage in mid October and had a lovely week in Cornwall which was very quiet and easy to get around. The cottage is a little dated and worn but quite adequate for 2 adults. It would be small for 4 adults or even with 2 children as the kitchen/lounge is small and the dining facilities would be cramped. However in summer, the patio doors being open would help. There is no dishwasher and currently no washing machine, so beware if this is important. The only mobile phone signal is from the beach and internet is only available from the café beneath which made a good excuse to go for coffee/drink every evening. It is a great location for exploring that south Cornwall area and there are lots of places to walk and to visit but I am sure the roads would be very busy in summer and parking would be a nightmare. Great location for surfers! Remote car park would be more of a problem in summer or with small children. Car is almost essential in this location. Steep hills down to the village. We cycled, walked along the cliffs, played golf, swam in the public pool and visited National Trust properties and towns locally.

"Dated" came as a surprise! Everything in the apartment is less than 6 years old and it has been totally refurbished in that time. The red leather sofa bed is less than 6 months old; we have modern Ikea chairs; 2 flat screen TVs; a cream shiny kitchen; quality bathroom with Jacuzzi bath; halogen lights throughout and all new double glazed windows and doors. Neither dishwasher or washing machine are advertised, although washing machine will be available soon.
We have never had a negative comment about parking in our 6 years of ownership and our private space is only 150 metres away. During the 5 month winter period guests are able to park within 15 metres of the front door.
Glad you had a good time anyway and you are always welcome back.

Cornwall Retreat
We came down for a wedding at the EcoCentre in Sept2014. The Bride wanted us to have a real Cornish Experience in Porthtowan a gathering of family and friends many staying over for a week in local accommodation near the beach. We got to go into several of the Seaspray apartments and number 11 was the best. Compact but so homely, well laid out and equipped. Close to the beach, superb views/sunsets, walks, great breakfasts at café below, lively pub with good food, local shop (owner miserable) for essentials, suff shop below, welcome tea/coffee/milk and biscuits, fridge, whirlpool bath, artistically decorated, comfy beds, double bed upstairs in mezzanine, 2 single beds on ground floor, loads of storage space, well soundproofed, car parking space, wifi, books, balcony, portable heaters if needed, cooking facilities and equipment. It’s beach accommodation with sand so don’t expect 5 star but for a great, relaxing, comfortable holiday or break its absolutely ideal. I recommend it wholeheartedly and I’m real fussy. Café held a private lunch for the wedding party on Sunday afternoon and was able to supply us with equipment and food for a BBQ on the beach in the evening. All in all a great week. Gilly & Bob have a great place I bet even in winter months it would be lovely. Could only tick 5 "recommended for" below but this accommodation would be suitable for most people young and older (we are fit 50s). The accommodation is compact and the surroundings are sandy and a bit hilly so this may present some issues for those with severe disabilities.

My husband and I have lived in Dorset for 35 years and love the south west. We run our own company from home and also manage permanent lettings.
Why they chose this property
We love Cornwall, having spent many happy holidays in our camper surfing and playing in the sea. We rented an apartment in Porthtowan when our niece held her wedding reception in the Blue Bar. We were so taken with the apartment that my husband left notes with all the apartments asking if they wanted to sell - 18 months later we got the call, wow, how lucky is that. Its a fabulous spot in an unspoiled area of Cornwall and yet still handy for many attractions.
What makes this property unique
The village of Porthtowan is small but has everything you need for a great holiday and, judging by the comments left by guests, you think so too.
