Patti is a gracious host. She had the fans on and the house ready for us prior to our arrival, there were even some treats! Great location in a peaceful part of the country. Will plan to return soon!
We were looking for a respite from the hustle and bustle of Northern VA and this is exactly what the doctor ordered. This cottage is in a great location to take in the fall colors and just slow down and unwind. Patti was an exceptional host and ensured we had a very pleasant stay. The cottage was well appointed and we wanted for nothing.

Wonderful visit
Eagle Annie's Cottage was a comfortable place to spend a few days away from everything. From the peacefulness of the location, to the brilliant starry night, we were able to unplug. Patti is a gracious host and will do anything to make sure your time here is welcoming. The cottage is rustic and simple, and it felt like home. Porch sitting with a good book was definitely a favorite activity. You will enjoy your time here.

Thanks. See you again in the future. I agree with you about porch sitting!
This cottage is simply delightful. All the necessities plus more. The town of Bluegrass has a particular charm, complete with restored old mill, charming houses, and a Mercantile store for necessities. There was even a Ukrainian flag flying on a neighborhood house. I loved sitting on the front porch and watching the buggies go by. Plus the owner is extremely helpful and close by.
The Chicken Coop was just perfect for our two month stay. The coziest home, well appointed kitchen - be sure to pick up waffle mix and the local maple syrup - Patty has the most awesome waffle maker. Patty's gardens are beautiful and attract a wide array of birds. I was able to make friends with some hummingbirds. If you don't want to cook, The Mercantile has excellent sandwiches, salads and chicken tenders. Sleeping was easy with a comfortable bed and the quiet sounds of the valley. Patty's home is welcoming and full of books. You won't be disappointed if you stay.
A friend and I had a great stay (albeit too short :) at Patti's cottage! Patti gave us tips about local places to explore for fall colors. I hope we can stay longer next time!

Two wonderful women who left my home neat, followed all the rules and will hopefully return some day. We had very interesting conversations about their professions. Patti

A perfect "nest" for migrating bird(er)s . . .
I was going to write, "a perfect 'perch'," but Eagle Annie's Cottage is so neatly nestled within its homey little hamlet and sheltering dell and so cozily appointed inside, that you naturally think of soft interwoven leaves of grass, downy feathers, and sky-blue robin's eggs. And what should greet me as I clambered out of the car but a veritable flock of twittering songbirds feasting at a well-stocked feeder.
Arriving just ahead of forecast snow, I anticipated perhaps having to cajole an old farmhouse radiator into sharing some heat, yet the attractive Jotul gas stove already had the place toasty warm. If you're feeling decadent, the 100%-coverage queen-sized heating pad adds a soothing touch at bedtime but, rest assured, it’s not really necessary.
Of course, stoves don't normally light themselves--nor do bird feeders typically fill automatically: it takes a special person to take care of both. Or to offer--on the spur of the moment--a glass of wine along with thoughtful, intelligent conversation. At Eagle Annie's Cottage, that person is your congenial host, Patti. Glad to lend you whatever you might need (in this case an iron skillet), she's also “cool” enough to leave you to your own devices. With her obvious love of the place rivaling her equally evident knowledge of the area, Patti is, even for a day or two, the good neighbor you've always wanted and the best friend you've never had.
NB: By way of reassurance for those who (like me) tend to check out new places from aerial photography first, please note that although the Cottage sits not all that far from the road, THIS DOES NOT MATTER! The property is fenced and landscaped and, more importantly, the road itself is barely wider or more active than the wagon track it started out as a century or two ago. I kid you not, the third and FINAL vehicle of the evening whispered past around 8:00 p.m. and after that it was nothing but listening to falling snowflakes!

Relaxing Getaway
Eagle Annie's Cottage is just as described. A comfortable small house, with a nice yard in a verrrry quiet little neighborhood. The neighbors were all very friendly and helpful. We took one day and ventured up to Seneca Rocks, and another day down in Monterey to visit the local shops. One day just to relax at the house with our dog and some books. There was a brochure about the local roads and great Motorcycle rides, so I believe I will plan another trip to check that out and stay at the cottage.
Even though the owner was away on a trip of her own, she stayed in touch with us and made sure we had a good stay.
Highly recommended!

My new happy place
I could tell from Patti's listing that Eagle Annie's Cottage was going to be a wonderful and restorative spot for my writing retreat -- and it was, in every way. Patti made sure the heat was on when I arrived, told me about birding spots, asked if there was anything I needed and was all-around delightful from the start. The kitchen was sunny and full of plants and well-appointed and I had fun making lavish meals (rosemary lamb chops, fried trout, and filet mignon, bought from local farmers via the Country Convenience Store, Real Deal Market, and Virginia Trout Company). I loved eating and working in the dining room and gazing out at the mountain through the window, loved quiet nights by the gas stove in the comfy living room (and watching the original, hard-to-find Star Wars on VHS), loved falling into a deep sleep on the heated mattress and waking up to songbirds on the feeder outside the bedroom window. The two gas stoves are charming and there's also baseboard heat in every room -- I was never cold. I went for long walks and drives and saw American Kestrels, Ruffed Grouse, Hairy Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Yellow Rumped Warblers -- not bad for November! The South Branch Potomac River across the road is lovely and the neighbors are very warm and friendly. A nice fried Allegheny trout dinner and fresh cherry pie at High's Restaurant was the perfect way to break up the week. I feel so lucky to have found this spot and I'm already thinking about going back in February for a Golden Eagle tour with Patti. This is a very special place and you should snag it if it's available.

Adorable cottage in scenic location
Eagle Annie's cottage is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Highland County, "Virginia's Switzerland," is a place of spectacular natural beauty. The cottage is located in the Bluegrass Valley, an idyllic and sparsely populated countryside with old homesteads, rolling hills, and more sheep than people. There's a front porch on the cottage that's perfect for sitting, catching up with family or friends, or just reading a book and watching the birds. The cottage is clean and simple, and very well-kept, and the gardens surrounding it are gorgeous. Patti is a wonderful and attentive host. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or a family trip! If you enjoy getting back to nature, time away from cell phones and television, spending time outdoors, and breathtaking scenery, this is the place.
