About Gordon Fall
Carole and Gordon Fall and their family have been coming to Maui since 1971. Carole is a retired anesthesiologist and Gordon is a semi-retired family physician in their home city of Seattle. Their family includes 3 children, two son-in-laws and 5 grandchildren. They purchased their first Maui home in The Whaler in 1976 and have owned three different units in The Whaler. Currently, they own and use 1252 which is the penthouse unit in Tower II. At least two to three times a year they stay in their unit in The Whaler for several weeks at a time. They are constantly upgrading the unit or adding or changing furnishings.
Gordon Fall purchased this Condo in 1980
Why Gordon Fall chose Lahaina
Carole and Gordon have traveled extensively to every continent and have found that there is no better place than Maui to combine relaxation, peacefulness, safety, and a wide variety of recreational and entertainment activities with an ideal year round climate. This realization and the relatively easy access to Maui from Seattle prompted them to initially buy their first unit in The Whaler in 1975 and then as the family grew in 1980 bought this 2B2B unit to better accommodate the family.

Best Unit at Whaler
Dr. Fall is a great host and is very responsive and generous in allowing others to share their absolutely gorgeous top floor penthouse unit with amazing wrap around balcony offering some of the best views on the island. I would most certainly stay there again.
Spectacular property, right on the beach.
This property contributed significantly to the enjoyment of our 51st wedding anniversary w/family. Great location, owner very gracious & responsive. Super beach/ocean view, electronic hookups all worked, complete kitchen w/all utensils one needs, beach toys,, etc. Has got to be one of the top Kaanapali Beach units. Nearby shops, restaurants, golf.....can't be beat!!
Very nice unit at very top- ocean front and wrap around deck- beautiful view everywhere you look!
Most beautiful view on Maui!
Eight days a week was not enough! The views from this condo are absolutely incredible. Nothing is left to the imagination--Kaanapali Beach is right below your feet, Black Rock is next door, and you would have to be on a boat to be any closer to Lanai & Molokai. This penthouse condo was better than advertised and more than met our every need or desire. The staff at the front desk went out their way to make us feel the spirit of "aloha". The grounds are beautiful and meticulously maintained every day to make your stay magical. We will be back!
Great view and location
There’s a lot to love about this place. However, there were also some downsides that made this compare less favorably with other experiences I’ve had with vacation rentals and home shares.
The good: This is the penthouse and best unit in the building. It’s spacious, the views are stunning, the large wraparound balcony is relaxing and amazing, and the location adjacent to Whaler’s Village shopping/restaurants and the beach is incredibly convenient. This is a special place and there's some definite wow factor here. Host Dr. Fall was also friendly and communicated quickly.
Room for improvement: For the price, I was surprised by some of the lack of attention to detail and amenities even compared to much more modest places I've stayed in the past. E.g. the carpets had many stains, shampoo/conditioner was only available in one of the two showers and even there the conditioner was nearly empty, and the sinks had hairs left behind. Some of the typical conveniences, like having coffee available for the coffee maker, were also absent.
I had to delay arrival by one day since all flights to the island were cancelled for hurricane weather. The cancellation policy is clear that last minute cancellations are not allowed, but it was impossible to arrive, and the change affected only one day out of 8. After discussion, the host agreed to refund a half day, and while this was appreciated, it wasn't the service I'd expect from a high end place where I'm paying more than $900 a night (including the fees/taxes).
Overall though, if the location and view are most important to you, you'll have a great experience here.
Great view and location.
After discovering this wonderful condo last year,(2017) we were excited to return again in 2018. We are a family of five, our kids, triplets, are 19 years old. It was a must to be centrally located in an area that provided shopping and activities for our active family. This condo checks all the boxes, I can't imagine that there is a better more majestic view of Kaanapali than from the 12th floor wrap around oversized deck, honestly that view in itself is probably the major reason we came back. The Whaler facility is beautifully maintained and has great outdoor facilities, from the pool to the beach, tennis courts to outdoor barbecue's you will enjoy the attention to detail. Also a quick shout out to the staff of the Whaler, specifically Michael the concierge located out near the pool who took charge with our many activity request's. From sunrise at Haleakala and then bicycling down the volcano, to zip lining, golf ,snorkeling and dinner reservations there were no excuses, he delivered it all. The Whaler facility has a great family vibe, in our two visits in July we have already been reunited with others that return year after year, hope we can do the same.
The owner, Dr Fall was attentive and had many helpful suggestions to ensure we had a great experience. Thank you for sharing this wonderful location.
