A Good Night's Sleep in Guaranteed!
The quality of our beds and little touches such as black out linings on the curtains ensure our guests get an excellent night’s sleep. The double bedroom faces south and looks out over the patio garden and fields beyond.
The twin bedded room enjoys views of Litton village green and Litton Edge, one of several walks from the door of the cottage. The village green is planted with spring bulbs. In May, the view is filled with cherry blossom and at Christmas, we look out at the village Christmas tree. Radio alarm clocks, hairdryers and shaver plugs are provided along with a choice of pillows, winter or summer weight duvets.

The bathroom is fully tiled and features a bath, separate shower cubicle, Edwardian style suite and heated towel rail.

Fancy Spending Christmas or New Year at Candlelight Cottage?

There is so much going on in the Peak District before Christmas. Many Christmas markets take place in local towns and specialist shops in Bakewell, Ashbourne and Buxton are ideal places to find unusual presents.

Every year, Chatsworth House’s decorations sre spectacular and after your visit, you can get into the festive spirit by sipping mulled wine and listening to brass bands and carol singers. Why not go carol singing down one of Castleton’s caves, visit a pantomime, attend a carol concert or book a Santa Special on Peak Rail or Crich Tramway?.

Christmas in Litton has a Christmas card charm of its own, especially under a dusting of snow. The village Christmas tree stands just opposite Candlelight Cottage and on Christmas Eve, everyone gathers around it to sing carols.

Candlelight Cottage is decorated for Christmas from the beginning of December and short breaks are available until Christmas week. Often December guests come to celebrate Christmas early; others come away over Christmas itself to experience a special Peak District Christmas.

What better feeling than returning to the wonderful warmth of the Candlelight Cottage AGA or curling up in front of the stove with a glass of mulled wine and warm mince pie? Come and experience the magic of a Peak District Christmas for yourself!

And what about New Year's Eve?
The Red Lion pub in Litton holds special New Year’s Eve dinners each year and there is of course lots more going on ... ... If you're thinking of coming for Christmas or New Year, please contact us.

The best cottage we have ever been to. So comfortable, clean and well equipped. Amazing scenery.

We've been to many cottages and this is by far the best. We were met by Simon, who showed us round the cottage and gave us loads of ideas about things to visit and good walks. There was also a welcome pack from the local deli in Tideswell - somewhere we visited often during our stay. The cottage had everything we wanted and was incredibly comfortable, warm and welcoming and full of extra little touches to make our stay special. Simon and Jill have clearly spent a lot of time thinking about what to put into the cottage and we have never been anywhere so clean! They definitely deserve their 5 star Gold rating and we would give them 6 stars! We visited Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell and did lots of walking. Sometimes we left the car at the cottage and walked from there along the Monsal Trail or through Cressbrook Dale, which was spectacular. We ate at the Red Lion pub in the village a few times and found the food good and the people friendly and welcoming. At the end of the week, we didn't want to come home and we are already planning our next stay, as there are still so many things to see and places to go, which we didn't have time to do this time. Thank you Simon and Jill for the wonderful welcome. We'll be back.

Lovely cottage in the heart of the Peak District

I have stayed at Candlelight Cottage three times with my family. The cottage is a delight. Spotlessly clean, everything you could wish for. Comfortable beds and very cosy and warm. The kitchen is ideal for four people with every item you could possibly want. It is always nice to be welcomed personally and Simon has given us lots of tips on the best places to walk and interesting places to see. We enjoy the Red Lion pub, within easy walking distance of the cottage and usually eat there several times during our stay, but there are loads of other good pubs in the area too. Candlelight Cottage is one of the nicest and cleanest cottages I have ever stayed in and it is certainly worth its 5 star rating .

Fantastic Cottage in great location.

We always like to stay here for our family pre-xmas break and it is by far the best cottage we have stayed in, Jill and Simon keep it to a superb standard and are always available with any questions right from time of booking, it is decorated nice for Xmas and benefits from a really nice friendly pub opposite on the village green with great food! And the location is perfect for some really nice walks and close to Bakewell and Buxton. Paul, Caroline, Estelle & Jaidon. Warwick.

Super stay!

"This was our fifth visit to Candlelight Cottage. It’s a fabulous place to stay and a real find!. The personal welcome with guided tour including tips and advice, the welcome pack and beautiful fresh flowers all create an excellent first impression. Jill and Simon are very caring and friendly and keen to maintain the highest standards in all aspects of the cottage. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they will even arrange extras such as birthday cakes and helium balloons! Candlelight Cottage is one of the most comfortable and immaculate cottages we have ever stayed in. It is well maintained, well equipped and has quality fixtures and fittings such as leather sofas and silk prints, not to mention the wonderfully warm AGA - (Scones, casseroles and slow roasted lamb cooked in the AGA are to die for!) The cottage is fully equipped and very modern, whilst retaining its cosy feel, with the fire making it very warm and romantic in the evenings. There are beautiful scenic walks right from the door and the village pub, just across the green, serves delicious food. We loved the atmosphere and the open fires when we visited in wintertime. There is also a small village shop and we have found Litton a great base for visiting just about any part of the Peak District, because it is so central. Our favourite places are Bakewell, Chatsworth, (brilliant place to walk even if you are not into stately homes, also excellent farm shop) and Eyam, which are really close by. On this visit, we particularly enjoyed cycling on the Monsal Trail, just down the road from the cottage, and attending cultural events in Sheffield and Buxton. The cottage is warm, cosy and always spotlessly clean. Everything is exactly as described on the cottage website and the booking process is always smooth and easy. There is loads of local information in the cottage on everything from places to visit, to walking routes. The village is pretty and the surrounding countryside is stunning. Candlelight Cottage really is worth all its outstanding reviews on Tripadvisor, which is why we keep coming back! We would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting five star accommodation in spectacular countryside at a really affordable price. We shall be back soon!"

Spotlessly clean 5 Star accommodation

Our stay was in March 2015 but I cannot input this date! This is an immaculate cottage, spotlessly clean, quality furniture and fittings, extremely well-equipped with everything you could need, warm, cosy and inviting. Jill gives a personal welcome and tour of the cottage and its facilities. In addition there is a very comprehensive file with information and instructions for all of the equipment from the CD player to the washing machine. Plus there is a further fully comprehensive file of information about the area and its attractions. There is great attention to detail to every aspect of this cottage. The cottage is in the small, quiet village of Litton with a pub and a village shop. It is in a very central location in the heart of the Peak District with the towns of Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock easily reached as well as the lovely Moors, Peaks and Dales in the area. Ideal for walkers or for anyone wanting a relaxing time visiting the lovely little towns and villages all around the area. The property also has broadband wi-fi which was very reliable and a big bonus as far as I was concerned. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage. Without doubt, the cleanest place we have ever stayed."

Excellent accommodation worthy of it's 5* status

I have stayed at Candlelight Cottage on 3 occasions so far with another week booked in a few weeks time. It is an absolute pleasure to experience this charming little gem of a cottage which is spotlessly clean / comfortable / well equipped & in beautiful surroundings. The cottage is a credit to the owners Jill & Simon; you immediately feel the warm cosy ambience of the place. It has been lovingly restored / refurbished; you couldn't wish for anything more. We have always received a wonderful warm welcome from Simon which is greatly appreciated & you know that he would always be happy to help in anyway he could to ensure you had the best holiday possible. After my first visit I knew I would definitely be returning frequently & I look forward excitedly to each return! Already looking to fit in a further break before the end of the year!!!
