Beautiful farm, people and outdoors.

This home provided us the perfect getaway. The owners are extremely helpful and you can meet their farm animals and sweet farm dogs. Super close to Douthat State Park for swimming, hiking, biking and fishing. Loved it!

Weekend Stay for VMI Visit

The Granary provided the perfect counterbalance to a busy VMI football game weekend. Peaceful setting, beautiful starlit sky at night, bright sunshine coming in the many windows, comfortable bedding. A cozy respite after the hullabaloo of the tailgate and game.

Fun little place!

We had such a fun time here! The rest of our vacation was hotel rooms, so having more space was great. We enjoyed the games and DVD’s, and the kitchen had everything we would need. You do drive on a dirt/gravel road to get to the property, which wasn’t an issue, but might have been if the weather was bad (depending on vehicle). We would definitely stay again! Lots of charm.

Spectacular Visit

We visited the Kerr’s Creek for our daughter’s graduation and loved it! Tripp and Becky were delightful. The pictures of Granary do nothing to describe the peace and beauty of this location. We thoroughly enjoyed the farm pups, animals and Becky’s famous sourdough bread and cinnamon rolls. So convenient to Lexington yet, a beautiful retreat from the festivities we had that weekend. We will be back for our daughter’s wedding in 2025!

Beautiful fall weekend!

We had the most enjoyable weekend stay at the Granary at Moon Owl Farm. While the property itself feels so private we were only a 10 minute drive from the VMI campus. The cabin is perfect-quaint, historical yet has all the modern amenities, comfy beds, fully stocked kitchen and all on a stunning mountain farm. The hosts were so easy to communicate with and the check in and out process was simple. We enjoyed the farm animals and just wish we’d had more time to explore the property. The nighttime sky was stunning and we enjoyed star gazing on the deck. I highly recommend this property and know we will be staying again.

The property was clean and very well decorated and so comfortable.

For us, the best thing was that the family dogs spent time with us and we got to snuggle and play with them. The property is clean and comfortable with all necessary ammenities.

A beautiful haven close to Lexington

We planned an overnight here as a family the night before dropping out daughter in the dorms at W&L. Once we arrived, I was taken in by the tranquility of the surroundings and the quaintness of the house and I asked to book another night so we could stay longer! The beds were very comfortable and there is nice outdoor space for enjoying cocktail hour or coffee. I am not sure if there is a/c but it was cool enough during our stay with just the windows open. We did close the kitchen windows at night so the "rooster alarm" wouldn't wake us the second morning. There are charming nooks for reading (or checking your phone if you are a teenager.) My kids were too old to enjoy the adorable play area tucked behind the sofa, but families with younger children should know it is perfect. Children's bookshelf! Wooden play kitchen! The jaunt to town is just over ten minutes and a beautiful drive on the back road. All in all a lovely, peaceful place to be in the gorgeous hills surrounding Lexington.

Beautiful…. But

A mouse climbed into bed with me. It was on my head, and scurried down my body. I am thankful it was me and not my child. Evidence the little booger had been in our food so we had to throw some out. I loved the property and the owners seemed great and immediately refunded us. There are mousetraps, and the beds are on platforms, but it’s time to try another method.

Wonderful getaway spot for a young family. The Granary was clean, well laid out and a perfect base camp for day trips to Lexington and Goshen. Farm animals were a huge hit with the kids. We’ll be coming back!

About the host

We are proud stewards of this little slice of Virginia.

Why they chose this property

We searched for well over 2 years and visited hundreds of farms in the mountains of Virginia before finding 'the one.' Owl Moon Farm, as it is now known, has truly become our family farm. We immediately fell in love with the pastoral seclusion, admired the history of the main home, the barns and the Granary guest cottage and were simply in awe of mountain views. Although the farm is in a lovely, private location, we are less than 15 minutes from the historic city of Lexington where we have discovered several fine dining restaurants, a couple of excellent diners and cafes and numerous locally-owned shops. We are truly blessed to be a part of a thriving small American town and community and thank God every day for the opportunity to live and work on this magnificent property.

What makes this property unique

The Granary has a charming and unique history all its own. The conversion of a 100+ year-old operational granary that was once an integral part of the community to a guest cottage was accomplished in a manner that remained true to its heritage while still adding the conveniences to enhance the stay of any modern traveler.
