Secluded Manor house with pool surrounded by spectacular countryside views

Surrounded by acres of private grounds, mature trees and wonderful vistas around every corner, Chapeau is the ideal place to get away from it all.
Enter through the gates, along the winding wooded drive and leave the outside world behind you. This idyllic rural location is peaceful and private, yet just a five minute stroll to the local village past the neighbouring medieval chateau.
The local village offers a small general store which sells fresh bread/ croissants etc from local boulangeries, a delicatessen selling locally produced meat, 2 traditional French restaurants, one with a small bar.
There is also a village tennis court available for use.
The private pool receives the sun all day and the terraces are positioned to provide the choice between sun or natural shade.
There are large wooden tables with benches and chairs for eating al fresco in the warm summer evenings and you can choose to cook on the coal BBQ or if you're feeling adventurous, the wood pizza oven.
The manor house has retained it's authentic french interior with all of the quirks this brings, from sloping wooden floors to colourful bathrooms and rustic outside areas.
The spacious accommodation is beautifully furnished and well equipped. There are 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in the main house, with a maximum occupancy of 13.

Please note that we live in a converted barn next to the house.

Great two weeks. Tim and Jennifer lovely people who did their best to make our holiday special. A few small issues that detracted from total satisfaction but the location, atmosphere ambiance was fantastic!

A fabulous house with lovely hosts, and a great pool. The village of Badefols d'Ans - maybe a 15 minute uphill walk is delightful, with a great tabac, and Hautefort with its magnificent chateau is only a few minutes' drive away. A couple more loungers by the pool would be useful when the house is full.

great place to stay

classic character slightly quirky French house. great pool and outdoor shady dining areas. well located in quiet (but not dead) village, close to supermarket, chateaus, and many other great attractions - we would recommend for a lovely family holiday. very helpful English hosts!

Great family holidaybspace

Chapeau is a lovely french home for a family or group of friends. We were fortunate and had lovely weather so enjoyed days by the pool and evenings by the bbq and pizza oven.

I organised this trip to celebrate my 70th birthday with my extended family. We had a wonderful time. The period features of this property were lovely. We spent a lot of time in and around the property relaxing and enjoying each others company. Children and grandchildren loved the pool and we all enjoyed having our meals outside on the terrace. The owners were really welcoming and friendly and our grandchildren really enjoyed playing with their children. Thank you for an amazing holiday.

Fabulous stay

We had the most wonderful stay with Jennifer and Tim. The property is located in a charming village with picturesque views and a stunning pool. The house has lots of different areas so even though we were a lot of people we never felt that we were getting on top of each other. Tim and Jennifer were so helpful and kind and always happy to answer questions. We highly recommend Chapeau!

Manoir Chapeau is a quirky old hunting lodge ideal for a family holiday. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated with lovely period furniture. The countryside views from inside the house are stunning - unfortunately, not from the terrace where we spent most of our time. The pool is large, modern and well-maintained and the kitchen is well - equipped. The village is only a short walk away with two restaurants and a mini-market. Overall, our family enjoyed the week's break in the heart of the Perigord Noir. But there were a number of issues. On arrival we were greeted with an apology 'in advance' for the cockerel. Wow! That cockerel woke all of us every morning between 4.30 and 5.00 am and continued crowing non-stop for up to a couple of hours. Had we known in advance we would not have booked. The description lists 'TV' but there is only a TV screen - so no TV channels - and a DVD player (with loads of DVDs). Seating on the terrace where meals were taken is uncomfortable with a small number of tired cushions. The gardens and grounds and - to a lesser extent - the house were overgrown and unkempt and could definitely do with a lot of 'tlc'. Finally, communication left a lot to be desired. Very surprisingly, there was no manual with basic information about operation of appliances, wifi codes, local amenities etc. When I sent a message requesting the wifi code, it took two days to get a response. The hosts, Tim and Jennifer, are lovely people but they need to up their game

Thank you for your feedback Sean, and we are glad you and your group enjoyed the week here. We enjoyed having a drink together and getting to know you, it was a lovely evening. Opening our private home to guests, over the last number of years has been, on the whole, a joy for us. We want to share what it’s like to spend time in this oldey-worldy, traditional French home which has bags of character and charm…the antithesis of a modern home or Hotel stay. It’s these characteristics we want to retain, so that like-minded people can experience and enjoy a more simple way of life. Space, with nature everywhere, un-manicured gardens, un-renovated décor, no TV (board games, cards, toys, chess galore), no traffic, no air-pollution. And with small local village shops and restaurants, using local produce, a short walk away. To be fair, it does normally look and feel more lush and green, but 2026 has been a very difficult year weatherwise for France, Europe and beyond. So yes, we agree the condition of the grounds and gardens has been somewhat under par this summer. Finally…we believe your unfamiliarity with the house may have been due to, upon arrival you declining our ‘introductory tour’ of the house and pool, as you had decided it wasn’t necessary. This is a positive learning for us and we will explain to future guests the tour will help to enhance their stay. And, as always we will continue to invite any questions and keep communication open prior to arrival and for the duration of our guests’ stay.

Birthday celebrations

Delightful owners, most helpful. Spacious, just what we required for a family gathering. I loved the big tables inside and out around which we could eat and chat. The pool was just what we needed. The upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms were excellent but the downstairs bathroom was disappointing. There were so many books, dvds records and games available it was quite astonishing. The village boulangerie is within easy walking distance

Holiday in Dordogne

Very clean and well equipped property. Well maintained pool in very attractive setting. Close to the village with shop and bar. Good shaded outside area for eating. A couple of niggles - weren't expecting to pay extra for house towels. We had the pool heated for the second week as we had a toddler staying but the temperature didn't seem to rise much for the extra 50euros. The outside cushions were definitely passed their best. Overall a good place to stay with very helpful owners.

a wonderful stay

Upon arrival we immediately felt at home and personally I fell a little bit in love with this beautiful property. You will find in Jennifer and Tim (and daughters) wonderful hosts who will make sure you will have a splendid stay. The pool is excellent ( we played a lot of volleybal) we loved sitting in the grand kitchen at night (as it was still a bit cold outside) and play games and relax. The pizzaoven: YES!! Absolute must-do! The house has a lot of character and you may notice here and there that it has been around for quite some time but for us that added to our 10 out of 10 experience we had as a group. We could not have picked a better place to celebrate life with my parents, brothers and family.

A lovely old house, full of character and original features. The photos do not do justice to this lovely place. Very well equipped kitchen, even a wine fridge! Pool was great and had the sun all day until early evening. The trampoline was used A Lot by the kids as was the tv room. There was a cupboard full of games and dvds. A lovely living room though we were most of time around the massive kitchen table or out on the terrace after dinner. Loads of parking and very peaceful. The owners are next door and are smashing, and very helpful on a number of occasions. A short walk into Badefols-d’Ans (10 mins) with a tabac shop and bar and 2 super restaurants and a very good pizza takeout. BBQ and pizza oven on the patio (both used and great) a short drive to Hautefort for supermarket and bakery. 5 bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. 2 rooms with en-suite. Would recommend unreservedly. We were 8 adults and 3 children (7,3,2) and it was perfect.

Chapeau was just the most perfect place for our 3-generation family holiday. We were a group of 10, ranging from 12 to 79, and we all absolutely loved it. The house is lovely, the two main rooms with en-suites in particular are extremely generous, and the kitchen has everything that we could possibly need. The outside space immediately next to the kitchen is perfect for long meals, and we used either the bbq or pizza oven every night. The pool was probably the star of the property for many in the group - a good size, plenty of parasols for much-needed shade, and with a spectacular view. Jennifer and Tim could not have been more welcoming and helpful in every way. While they are next to the property, we were never once aware of them. For those who could tear themselves away from the pool, there was plenty to do (canoeing / paddle boarding was a highlight, as were the caves). Everyone wants to come again next year!

Eem oud maar liefdevol en verzorgd onderhouden, compleet ingericht huis met alle faciliteiten, een prachtig schoon zwembad en een adembenemend uitzicht. Vlakbij een mooi dorpje met klein supermarktje en met vele uitstapjes niet al te ver weg. Een pareltje!

Lovely house, pool and owners

Even though we rented in late september, the owners went out of their way to heat the pool and give us some swim days. Also came up with a heater for the 3 year olds room. Charming house.

Séjour réussi

Nous y avons passé 1 semaine avec des amis et leurs jeunes enfants. Le manoir est très joli, spacieux et confortable et les espaces extérieurs très agréable. Les propriétaires vivent à coté mais sont très discrets et également très sympa ! Le village autour est très mignon et on trouve pas mal d'activités dans les alentours. Que de bon, nous recommandons !
