About this property

Colyer Kickin' Back Cabin In Mountain Development, New addition 2020, Built 2015

We are excited to be back on-line after completing an addition to our cabin. Words can't describe the views and feel of the new expansion. Colyer Kickin' Back Cabin was custom built in January 2015 and is located 3 miles west of Buena Vista in a secluded mountain development with spectacular views of the mountains and the valley.

The addition adds a dedicated dining area that can seat 14 people. The dining area opens into the great room with a seating capacity of 14. The addition adds a 5th bedroom with a full bed and a twin bed. It is perfect for a multi-generation family getaway, or for couples, or for a group of friends. Our goal in building the cabin was to capture a variety of spectacular views and accommodate a wide range in number and variety of guests.

There is a main level bedroom with an adjoining bathroom that can be divided into 2 private areas. One side has a shower and vanity and the other a jetted tub, vanity and toilet. There is a utility room with a sink, shower, and toilet, and also a powder room. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms with private decks. A bathroom is situated between the bedrooms.

The walkout basement includes a living room, kitchenette, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms, one with a full bed and a bunk bed and the other with a full bed and 1 twin bed.

The great room has a fireplace and a 60 inch TV. Off the dining area is a large deck with a gas grill and patio furniture. The galley kitchen with granite and stainless steel appliances opens into the great room and the dining area. We designed a breezeway area to sip a cup of coffee on a love seat or at a counter top with seating for 2 while enjoying the views. There are TVs in the lower level living room, upstairs bedrooms, and main level bedroom, all with DISH satellite. There is internet and a router.

We are excited to share the experience of a beautiful cabin and the spectacular views with you. Come to our cabin, kickback with family and friends, and together enjoy the beauty of the mountains.

During the summer months from June through August 98% of our quests from 2014 through 2023 have booked their stay at our Cabin arriving on Saturday and departing on Saturday. It is now our policy to rent our Cabin during June, July, and August from Saturday to Saturday in order to best serve the vast majority of our guests. We are sorry if you are one of the unique potential guests for whom Saturday to Saturday isn't workable.

Fantastic for family
We had a Thanksgiving getaway with grandparents, and kids. This home was perfect for multiple generations. Not to mention the breath taking views of Mt Princeton!! Super quick drive to town if needed but secluded.

Coming back
This is the 16th year of doing an annual guys trip centered around outdoor activity. We all agreed this is the best house we’ve rented along with its proximity to endless activities. The hosts and property manager were very responsive and helpful. We will be back!

14'ers with family
I can't say enough great things about our stay at Coyler's kickin back cabin! The house is excellent and the views are beyond excellent! I hosted a family get-together for hiking, hot springs soaking and general chilling. The Coyler home was the perfect base camp for all our adventures. The deck is amazing! With incredible views of Princeton to the south and Sherman to the north you can't beat it for 14'er eye candy. We've already decided to make this an annual event in Buena Vista and will absolutely stay here again.... if it is available! If you stay at he Coyler's home you won't be disappointed!

About the host

My wife and I reside in Dubuque, Iowa, near the Mississippi River. We are avid cyclists and enjoy getting away to Colorado.

Why they chose this property

We purchased the land after visiting Buena Vista in 2011. We knew this was a place we wanted to come back to many times. It is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the outdoors. It is so beautiful in Buena Vista and the people are very friendly.

We love to start our day at the bakery with a bear claw then head across the street to our favorite coffee shop. Our favorite activity is riding our road bikes all over the area and up to the top of Cottonwood and Independence Passes. In the evenings we explore the area on our motorcycle.

One of the most beautiful sites is Cottonwood Lake located off CR306 heading towards Mt. Princeton. Watch for the sign and turn to the left on CR344. It is approximately 3-4 miles up the gravel road. Google it for a sneak preview of its beauty! We are just beginning to explore the trails in 168,000 acre Collegiate Peak Wilderness which borders the mountain housing development our cabin is located in.

Our adults sons love to visit the cabin and take on whitewater rafting, ATV riding, off-road jeep adventures, fishing, zip lining and hunting in the Fall. Buena Vista is just under 8000 feet elevation.

Our cabin is at approximately 8500 feet, keeping us close to town but high enough to enjoy the tall ponderosa pines and beautiful mountain views. From the east side of the house, you will see a special large ponderosa pine that grew in a crack in large boulder and split in two. That was the selling point of the property! You will see it as you enter the house from the garage at the beginning of your stay at Colyer Kickn' Back Cabin.

What makes this property unique

We love being situated between the historic towns of Salida (24 mi) and Leadville (34 mi) where there are more shops, restaurants, adventures and beautiful views.
