About this property

Quiet s/c cottage with garden 5 minutes walk to the centre of Uppingham

Number 4 Pleasant Terrace is part of a Victorian Terrace built in 1896 with many original features, wood panelled walls, tiled floors, cast iron fires etc. The honey coloured stone on the outside had been taken from an earlier building which stood on the spot as there is a sundial dated 1666 set into it. (The oldest in Rutland apparently) Curtains and Austrian blinds are all hand made from Chinese silk. With its own entrance accessed from the street by a short flight of steps down, regrettably it is not really suitable for wheelchair users. Internally the stairs to access upstairs are narrow and the garden has steep steps down.
We have been welcoming guests to No4 since 2016 and have Superhost status on another hosting platform.
A key safe on the front wall means you can access No4 on arrival without asking for the key. I will give you the code to open it after you book.
I will also give detailed instructions as to where to find us before you arrive. We are in a quiet Cul-De-Sac, a little off the main drag but still in easy walking distance of the Town Centre (5 minutes)
Central heating throughout as well as a log burner which will make any winter visit very cosy and comfortable.
It has a kitchen with sink, electric cooker, microwave and fridge freezer and ground floor sitting room with Futon which sleeps 1 adult comfortably. The TV has Freeview and a built in DVD player with a large collection of DVD's available to watch. The first floor has a fully-tiled bathroom with spacious shower and a comfortable double bedroom with double bed (sleeps 2) and Wardrobe. Outside, the garden has 4 terraces, one with a pond,(so children must be supervised at all times) with fish and extensive country views of open fields across the valley. Planting has been done to maximise each season. Apple trees form the hedge on the west side and you are welcome to try any when in season (usually in September). We live next door and grow vegetables in a small plot at the bottom of the garden and again you are welcome to use any which are in season for your cooking.

Please do not have the television volume too loud as it can be heard next door.If there is a problem parking outside please park on Station road (just below) where there is unrestricted parking every day. Wet shoes shouldn't be worn inside the house please. Please wash up any plates/cups you use and put them away. Lovely Weekend Away
Fantastic place, nice and cosy. Beautiful sun trap in the garden. Parking was tricky but the town is small and can park in most places fairly easily.

Charming Georgian terrace for two
Beautifully kept property, comfortable size for two and a dog. Great that the cricket field was close for morning dog walks. Friendly owner next door. Only drawback was the micro cooker when we tried to do Xmas dinner! But fine for simple cooking. Would definitely come back.

Cosy, quiet cottage close to center of Uppingham
We were 3 adults (from overseas) staying for 3 weeks, visiting relatives and old friends plus sight seeing in Rutland and Leicestershire, with 1 person sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room. Everything was spotless, and comfortable, and became home away from home for us. The cottage is a short walk to the Co-op grocery store, and Uppingham has a better variety of places to eat and coffee shops than we had expected. Juanzie and Marc were most welcoming and accommodating. Juanzie is a wonderful gardener, and shared her strawberries and veggies with us. We were lucky enough to be in town to participate in the open garden tour and the Uppingham feast day, which were lots of fun. I would encourage Juanzie to open her garden next year. It is very pretty.

Lovely quiet cottage, not good for people with mobility problems cooking facilities very basic but catered for. Was disappointed that I couldn't sit on terrace due to landlords washing!

I live next door with my wife Xiao Jun and we bought Number 4 in 2011 for my Mother. After she moved to residential accomodation we refurbished the ground and first floor. We believe it is a oasis of calm in this increasingly stress filled world in which we live. We both like visiting historic buildings and gardens and have created gardens in number 3 and number 4 which give us an enormous amount of pleasure. Hopefully you will enjoy it as well. Xiao Jun & I have been married for 14 years and she is an excellent cook. Mandarin is her first language although she speaks very good English. I have been a dealer in 19thc watercolours since 1981 but am now semi retired.

Why they chose this property

The view from the back is beautiful. Big skies are the order of the day. It has a charm all of its own. The area is very quiet and not many people know we are down here. But we are close enough to the Town Centre to enjoy all that it offers, award winning pubs and restaurants. Excellent takeaways offering a wide range of food choices. There is also a Post Office along with a Co-op supermarket, Budgen and One Stop shop. Uppingham has some excellent Galleries and Antique centres and is becoming a Mecca for those interested in history due to the Heritage Trail. We are close to Eyebrook and Rutland Water for those who enjoy Fly fishing or bird watching. Stamford and Oundle are half an hours drive. Corby is 6 miles away and has a Theatre and Cinema as well as all the major shops. An ideal location for the Annual Bird Fair and Burleigh Horse Trials . We are midway between Leicester and Peterborough, 14 miles from the A14 and 11 miles from the A1

What makes this property unique

The views over open countryside at the back were what sold the house to me when I first saw it 18 years ago. Sitting at my desk and watching Foxes sniffing around the rabbit holes on the hill opposite is magical. We also have red kites flying over on a daily basis as well as a pair of ravens who are nesting 2 miles to the west of us. Badgers have visited our garden and can sometimes be seen at night foraging on the lawn at the back of nearby flats. There are always birds singing in the garden attracted by the insects who feed on the flowers.
