A trendy area
Design lovers are attracted by the new
Museu del Disseny (Museum of Design), a fantastic zinc and glass building by MBM Arquitectes, named as the
Design Hub in Barcelona. It is worth it to admire the installations on the square outside or get into the library, a paradise for design devotees
It is also an area to spot Bohemians, in their 80’s outfits. Denim and high-waisted jeans are a must. The new mall of
Glóries Shopping Centre and the flea market of
Els Encants Vells, are their favourite places. A special mention to the building where the market has been installed, a wavy-roofed plaza, where traders sell everything from clothes to furniture at very low prices on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
One of the tallest landmarks in Barcelona skyline is located in this area, la
Torre Agbar by Jean Nouvel. People around this area are basically mid-range executives in their suits. Men and women who like to have lunch in fancy places such as the
Meat Corner in Avenida Diagonal or at the sushi place
Nanaya 22, ideal to “see and be seen”.
Culture lovers live and breathe in Glòries. Young and middle-age couples, smartly dressed, rub shoulders with drama and music students, and find their way to the
National Theatre of Catalunya or to L’Auditori, across the street, to enjoy an exquisite cultural evening.
L’Auditori is, which is right in front of the
Ascot apartment , is a modernist complex that houses a music museum, music school and the grand hall, where the Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona play stirring classical works. Take advantage that you are there, and make the most of your stay attending to a musical event.
