Beautifully Converted Oast House in an Idyllic Setting
A fabulous setting for a truly inviting family house. The farm is approached up a winding track and idyllic walks start from the door
It'll do you a world of good to stay on this small family farm, surrounded by soft hills and pastures. Your hosts are Charles and his Dutch wife Truus, who farm 60 organic acres. Now they have converted the big handsome oast house and it's perfect for a family of four (though six can squeeze in). On arrival you're welcomed warmly with bread, eggs and homemade cake, and maybe a bottle of farm cider; in season you can buy beef, lamb and vegetables. Downstairs opens to the dining room, kitchen, bedroom and family bathroom, while the sitting room and second bedroom are a hop up the open-tread stairs. Each bedroom is super-cosy, and circular, being in the roundel, and the decor is country traditional, with quarry tiles and wooden floors, period tapestries and open-stone walls, and the old hop press upstairs. As for the area, it'll keep you busy. You can visit Sissinghurst, Battle and Bodiam Castle, then walk to Rudyard Kipling's house along the banks of the Dudwell, or pop off to the Wheel Inn for a pint and a pie. Back home? A wood-burner, books, DVDs, satellite TV.

Just a great place - spacious, quiet, plenty of wildlife, good views, comfy and warm, and a deep bath to die for!
Cannot fault the owners or the oast. Highly recommended.
Beautiful converted Oast house. Well equipped kitchen. Extra bed off the first floor living room meant that my adult children could sleep in separate rooms (in addition to the room my wife and I stayed in). Lovely plants and flowers around the house and farm. Chickens and cows galore :-). Table tennis and pool table in the barn if it is raining - which thankfully it wasn't. Charles and Truus made us very welcome (and Truus's cake was delicious :-).
A Dutch couple have lovingly rebuilt this old property, including the drum-shaped oust house. It’s a working farm, surrounded by peaceful pastureland. Some standard amenities (closet space, chiefly) are trade-offs, but if you’re open to the rural experience this is for you.
Exceptional accommodation with charm and character. Everything we could need was available (including animals) Delightfully secluded in a rural location with walks at the bottom of the drive. Made very welcome by the owners.
Prachtig gelegen Cottage.
Charles, Truus, cat & dogs were very hospitable & helpful. The house is Ideally positioned for peace & quiet. Lovely walk to nearby Rudyard Kipling’s Home at Bateman’s. Pretty central for other National Trust properties & towns like Lewes & Hastings. The local pub is within walking distance with a limited menu done very well.
Such a lovely spot quiet spot in the heart of the Sussex weald on 65 acre organic farm. Charles and Truss are lovely people and made us so welcome with Dutch apple cake and farm eggs on arrival. You can walk to Bateman's across in fields in under an hour. The oast / barn was very spacious with a family of 4 and full of character, cool in summer and with a large woodburner no doubt snug in winter. Kids loved the games room with dart board, table tennis and trampoline!!
Wonderful accommodation in a beautiful and peaceful location
Charles and Truus were truly hospitable and enhanced our stay by giving us advice on the local area and history of the old Oast House. We’d 100% recommend the experience of staying here and hope to be back again in the not too distant future. Delicious eggs and Apple cake!
We had a lovely stay with Truus and Charles, who are amazing hosts and really took their time with our two young kids, introducing them to the farm's animals and showing them around. It was a very relaxing and fun weekend we spent in this beautiful part of the country. We will definitely come again.
The accommodation is charming, spacious and very comfortable. It is set in a wonderful location and our hosts were very welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay.
Charles and Truus are wonderful relaxed and friendly hosts
Nothing was too much trouble our granddaughter was given such freedom on the farm she didn’t want to leave ! We can highly recommend
We try to have a staycation once a year and have never returned to the same venue. We feel that is going to change, simply nothing to fault. Lovely folks, lovely place and just relaxing.
Could not recommend more.
The farm was wonderful and had lots of scenic walks for us to explore. Charles and Truus were warm, helpful and engaging hosts. The apple cake on arrival was a lovely extra touch and very moist! Would recommend to anyone.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful countryside cottage. Spend the New Year's there and everything was just perfect. The hosts Truus and Charles were really friendly, the cottage very comfortable and well equipped with a fireplace and all. We can warmly recommend the accomodation and hopefully will get to go there again.
