About the host
Hosted by Heather Allen

This is a family affair! The property was purchased in 2006 by our parents and grandparents. Due to circumstances, the cabin could not be built until last year, completed in 2015. We (my siblings, parents, and grandparents) pooled together and started the construction process in 2014. It is finally done! My siblings live in Los Angeles, and the rest of us live in Las Vegas. The property title is in my sister's name, and I (Heather) have decided to run the rental side of it.
Why they chose this property
My grandparents had a cabin in Braffit's Creek, UT, 10 miles from Brian Head. We had a lot of great family moments at that cabin. But, we couldn't get to it during the winter and it was small. So, that prompted looking elsewhere. Duck Creek seemed great, but busy! Brian Head has more of a local, rural feel, that is also not too far away from many wonderful activities. We designed the cabin (my grandfather is a retired architect and my father works in construction) to hold a large extended family.
What makes this property unique
4 summers ago, we rented a cabin west of Cedar City (using VRBO) and we decided to drive up and see the property in Brian Head. We went on this amazing hike, not far from the property, that wandered through a valley of wildflowers! It was beyond beautiful: 65 degrees, a creek, and pond. It made us think... we could do this! Build the cabin we had wanted, large enough for an extended family, and to off set the costs - rent it out when we were not using it.
Through the whole building process, we have seen the seasons. Fall is gorgeous, cool weather, but color on the trees. The snow is just majestic, and we experienced many days of deep snow but sunny weather. I can't wait to see the wildflowers again!
