Levanto, a town of pre-Roman origins, lies at the extreme north of the enticing little villages of the Cinque Terre. The name is derived from Medieval Latin levantem Levanto, east, in the sense of "place that is located to the east of Genoa."
The town of Levanto has an interesting historical center, many beautiful painted villas, a bustling Wednesday market, good restaurants and shops. In the main square, Piazza della Loggia, is a delightful 13th-century loggia.
Levanto enjoys a mild climate. The long sandy beach is ideal for all beach activities. It 'a great base for surfers, who come from all parts of Europe. Also on the beach, there is also a pool and a scuba diving center. In summer there are many concerts and other live music events. Every year there is the "Laura Film Festival", and you can participate in numerous marathons tastings. The area also boasts an excellent culinary tradition, thanks to the wines of the Cinque Terre and the local seafood recipes.
Levanto is a great starting point to visit the villages of the Cinque Terre, either by train, by sea or venturing into hiking.
Genoa, Pisa, Lucca and Florence can be easily visited in one day, by train or car.
