Painter’s Cottage, St Ives
Central location | Wood burner | Two shower rooms | Boutique hideaway
Painter’s Cottage is a charming, character-filled hideaway tucked away in the very heart of St Ives. Just moments from Fore Street’s cobbled lanes, independent shops, galleries and restaurants, this beautifully styled cottage is ideal for a romantic coastal escape or a small family break (best suited to older children).
With two bedrooms, two shower rooms and a much-loved wood burner, Painter’s Cottage offers year-round comfort in one of Cornwall’s most iconic seaside towns.
*A cosy and characterful interior*
Entered from quiet Wills Lane, the cottage opens straight into a welcoming open-plan living, dining and kitchen space. Thoughtfully furnished and styled, the interior reflects its coastal setting with soft sea-inspired tones, locally sourced artwork and handcrafted pottery.
At the heart of the living area sits the wood-burning stove, creating a wonderfully cosy focal point — perfect for cooler evenings after a day exploring St Ives. There’s free WiFi, a Smart TV, and a carefully chosen selection of books and DVDs, making it easy to truly switch off (or settle in for a box-set binge).
*Kitchen & dining*
The compact yet well-equipped kitchen has everything needed for relaxed self-catering, including:
Oven and hob
Fridge
Slimline dishwasher
Full range of cookware and utensils
With Fore Street just a few minutes away, it’s easy to pick up fresh local produce — Cornish cheese, artisan bread and deli treats are all close at hand.
A small rear outside space provides access to a separate utility cupboard housing the washing machine and freezer, plus an outdoor tap — ideal for rinsing wetsuits after the beach.
*Bedrooms & bathrooms*
On the ground floor you’ll find a modern shower room with WC, ideal for sandy returns from the beach.
Upstairs (via steep cottage stairs, typical of traditional St Ives homes) are two beautifully finished bedrooms:
A double bedroom with compact en-suite shower room
A flexible second bedroom, which can be set up as a king-size bed (6’3” long) or twin singles
Both bedrooms feature Smart TVs, hanging space and high-quality bedding, with crisp cotton linens and plush towels provided for a truly comfortable stay.
Please note: the stairs are steep and may not be suitable for guests with mobility concerns or very young children.
*An unbeatable St Ives location*
From Painter’s Cottage, you’re perfectly placed to explore:
Porthminster Beach (your nearest beach and Blue Flag awarded)
St Ives Harbour and beaches
Fore Street’s shops, galleries and eateries
The Barbara Hepworth Museum, just a minute’s walk away
For dining out, local favourites such as Beer & Bird are right on your doorstep, offering a relaxed St Ives atmosphere with cocktails, craft beers and creative vegetarian and vegan dishes.
*Parking & practicalities*
Painter’s Cottage does not have allocated parking. However:
St Ives Train Station car park is around a 5-minute walk
Trenwith car park is approximately a 10-minute walk
Due to the cottage’s central location and surrounding granite walls, mobile phone signal is limited. WiFi calling works well once connected to the internet.

The property is adorable, but the location is perfect! Walk out the door and you are steps away from the shops, cafes, and restaurants. The beaches are just a few minutes walk away.

Thank you for your review Marilyn. Am I right in saying you didn't contact us during your stay to let us know that the App would not open for you? It is a very easy fix and we could have talked you through the 30-second remedy. Technology is fabulous when it works but can be a bugbear when there is a slight glitch. What may have happened is a newer version was released since you downloaded the App and, like I say, a super quick and easy instruction on what to do would have meant you would have had a world of information (and discounts) at your fingertips. I'm just really sorry you didn't think to ask for help and instead left frustrated by having half an experience.
We loved staying in Painters Cottage! The “welcome hamper” featuring Cornish goodies was greatly appreciated. The location is terrific, close to shops, restaurants & minutes from the harbour. The beds are very comfortable with high quality, soft linens. Although the steep stairs leading to the bedrooms are somewhat tricky there are grab handles strategically placed to assist. Orange Roofs are very efficient & a pleasure to deal with……thanks for your prompt communication.
This was a lovely 2 bed cottage with great attention to the furnishings and decor. It was spotlessly clean on arrival and the central location was ideal. The beds were extremely comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There were only two of us but I think a family of four would struggle with no washing machine

Thank you so much for your review and lovely comments. We are really sorry that you missed the washing machine that is housed just outside the back door. There is reference to it in the Welcome Folder PDF that is accessible at all times via the Orange Roofs App.
We had a wonderful week at Painters Cottage. The cottage is in a brilliant location and only minutes from the beach/shops/restaurants.
Cleanliness was an extremely high standard and the cottage has been decorated tastefully. We would stay here again.
This cottage is great for a short stay and 2 people. It is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The position could not be better just 100 yards to the front of St Ives. There are 2 downsides to staying at this cottage it is very small and in my opinion it is not large enough for 4 people. Also the parking is a nightmare booked a weeks parking at the railway station for £47.00 but if you leave your space it is almost impossible to find one when you return. If I was to stay in St Ives again I would not book a cottage that did not have parking. Having said all this we had a great time and the cottage was very good.
Beautiful cottage, great location, spotlessly clean, tasteful furnishings and high standard of decoration. Our Christmas week stay was all too short! Want to come back...
An excellent property just as advertised, location was the best for the local town and amenities
From start to finish excellent communication with all the necessary information required. Would highly recommend this property together with Orange Roofs.
A fantastic property worth every penny. Superb location, couldn't ask for more.
This is a beautiful little cottage in the centre of St Ives. I thought the parking would an issue but not at all. There is sufficient parking, reasonabley priced and easy to do, download the app. We had a lovely 3 nights, I'm sure the log fire helped. Will recommend and would definitely go back. Thank you.

Beautiful cottage in the heart of St Ives
Extremely well appointed. Loved the interior decoration, wood burning stove, Smart Tv s, central heating. Cottage is cosy but really comfortable. Everything is of a high standard from the beds to the fluffy white towels. Brilliant position in the centre of town a few streets behind Fore Street shops and 2 mins walk to the harbour and all those wonderful restaurants and beaches.

It was simply beautiful...exquisitely charming.
We had a wonderful stay at Painters Cottage which was very tastefully decorated and furnished with a clear attention to detail. It was beautifully clean and well equipped. It’s central location meant that everything was within such easy reach. We had some wonderful food at various restaurants and enjoyed some great shopping. The landscape and views of the sea are spectacular and I can see why artists are fond of this area.
We will be back...thankyou Painters Cottage. Julie TS

Lovely small cottage
Lovely comfortable cottage. Unfortunately couldn’t get the central heating on. Instructions didn’t match thermostat so bit cool in the evening & damp towels as towel rail was connected to the heating.
Agent tried to help but to no avail.
Other than that it is a lovely small , well equipped cottage. Very central , nicely furnished, beds comfortable. The sink in the bathroom is a cloaks sink so tiny but you couldn’t get a bigger one in there. Stairs are steep. This wasn’t a problem for us but might be for other people. I would stay there again.

Cute Cornish cottage
A cute little cottage with everything you need. Loved that it had two shower rooms; one on suite and bedrooms were a decent size. The position was very central to everything in St Ives but due to being in the town and on a road that people cut through it could get a bit noisy.

This property is in a good location, parking a nightmare
The property is beautifully decorated/furnished, a bit small for 4 I think I think maybe 2 adults at a push 3
Well equipped dining wise , the welcome gifts were lovely
It can get a bit noisy at night as it's a bit of a thoroughfare to and fro from the pubs but it is a lovely place so worth putting up with. We would stop again but with no car on the train probably

Superb cottage in heart of St Ives
What a gem of a cottage! It is cosy, welcoming and warm. We just had to walk a minute and we were on the harbour front watching the seals in the evening and the beaches are really close by too. We parked in the train station which wasn't far away at all but when we went out for a day trip and lost our space we parked at the leisure centre and it took just 5 minutes to walk back to the cottage. The beds are comfy and the fact there is wiFi and Netflix meant the kids were entertained too. Definitely recommend staying here and we tell friends and family too.
