Welcome to Walloon

Our newly remodeled 3-bedroom, 1.5-bath home is located in the heart of the village of Walloon Lake, Michigan — known by locals as “The Foot.” Just 100 yards from the water, the cottage sits perfectly between the charm of the village and the peaceful beauty of the lake itself.

Walloon Lake is one of those rare places that captures your heart the moment you arrive. It’s a destination where life slows down, neighbors wave from porches, and families have gathered for generations. The village is rich in history, yet warm and welcoming to new visitors who want to experience the unique sense of community that has made Walloon famous for over a century.

Whether you’re here for a summer getaway, a fall color tour, or a quiet winter escape, you’ll quickly see why so many visitors return year after year.

The front porch is perfect for your morning coffee or evening glass of wine, while the large back patio is ideal for grilling, dining, or just enjoying a quiet northern evening. The landscaped yard offers plenty of shade for relaxing afternoons, along with open sunny spots for outdoor fun.

Location & Setting

The cottage is located in the village of Walloon Lake, affectionately called “The Foot” because of its location at the southern end of the lake. From here, you’re less than a minute’s walk to public lake and dock access, where you can swim, wade, or simply sit by the shore and take in the stunning, Caribbean-like clear water and sandy bottom that Walloon is known for.

The village park and public beach are family favorites, offering an easy way to enjoy the lake without needing a boat. Stroll the charming streets, stop by the General Store, grab coffee or lunch at The Walloon Lake Inn or Barrel Back Restaurant, and browse the local shops and marina — all within easy walking distance of the cottage.

During the summer months, Walloon comes alive with boaters, concerts, and lakeside events, yet still maintains its peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Autumn brings breathtaking colors and crisp mornings perfect for hiking or scenic drives. Winter transforms the area into a cozy wonderland with skiing, snowshoeing, and holiday charm, while spring offers quiet beauty as the lake and village awaken once again.

Yard: beautifully landscaped with both sunny and shaded areas — great for kids, games, or simply lounging in an Adirondack chair.

The quiet neighborhood and proximity to the lake make it easy to unwind, recharge, and reconnect with family and friends.

Guest Access & Entry

Guests will receive an access code prior to arrival.

During winter months, please enter through the mudroom via the back patio door (the front porch is enclosed for winter use and accessible only from the inside).

During summer months, guests are welcome to enter through either the front porch or the back patio/mudroom entrance.

Parking is available on the paved driveway, with space for multiple vehicles.

The Walloon Experience

For generations, Walloon Lake has been a place where families return year after year — not just for the lake, but for the feeling it gives you. Long summer days on the water, quiet afternoons on the porch, and evenings filled with laughter and sunsets over the lake are what make this place truly special.

As someone who grew up in Walloon and now shares it with my own family, I can say there’s no place quite like it. Each visit brings back memories of tubing and water skiing, reading on the porch, and watching the sun set over the glassy water. It’s a place where time slows down, friendships deepen, and traditions grow.

When summer ends, we immediately start counting the days until we’re back — and we hope you’ll feel the same after your stay.

About the host

Host profile image
Welcome to our Walloon Lake Cottage my name is Scott Hutchinson and I appreciate you taking the time to view our cottage. I've felt very privileged to consider Walloon my home as I spent the first 24 years of my life here in the village. Upon starting my own family with my wife and son and daughter I look forward to each visit full of memories, stories and good old family fun as we build upon the 3rd generation of our family!

Why they chose this property

Walloon has been an intricate part of my life as it's one of those places that is very rare and hard to explain to those who haven't experienced it first hand. The history of 6-7 generations in the village and around the lake are what make this one the most unique places int he world. Family and friends are brought together in a way that only can be experienced by spending a Summer here in the village and on the lake. As one that grew up in Walloon full time, I can say it was one of the best childhoods one could of ever had. Nostalgia sinks in just thinking about what Summer days are like whether your on the lake tubing/water skiing, the front porch reading a book and playing board games or feeling the Summer breeze while watching a perfect sunset. There isn't a moment that goes by where Walloon isn't on the forefront of my family's minds. When Summer ends the planning and count down to next years vacations sets in!
