Located on the North Shore of Walloon, this delightful cottage is within walking distance of the Foot. It is perched high atop a hillside with sweeping views of the southern most part of the lake.
Built in the early 1900s, the house has been in our family since the late 1920s and has been lovingly and substantially updated.
Ernest Hemingway spent boyhood summers on the lake with his family and used Walloon as the setting for his famed Nick Adams stories. The lovely towns of Harbor Springs and Petoskey are close by. A trip to Mackinac Island is a must and about an hours drive away.

We love having our extended family from Atlanta, New York, and Boston in Michigan for the summer, and nothing is more enjoyable than staying on Walloon Lake. This year, we had a wonderful week in this charming cottage! The cottage was just as described and made for a sunshine and lake-filled vacation, with plenty of common areas to play games and share family meals. The large porch is a highlight, allowing for amazing lake views at all times.
We look forward to returning and again enjoying this cottage and its wonderful hospitality.
This is our second visit to this beautiful location. The location can not be beat and the real reason to stay at this cottage is the absolutely fantastic back porch facing the lake. We ate all our meals out there and spent almost all our waking hours there. It was a cozy place to sit and read on the one day of rain as it is well covered and protected from the elements. Thank you George, for another memorable week on Lake Walloon.
The stay on Walloon Lake was amazing. The location of the house is reasonably close to downtown Walloon Lake and makes it easy to get to Petosky and Boyne City. The dock and boat slip were great so that we could have lots of time on the water. They have also made an area for kids to play down by the beach. For us we used the stairs to enter the water, which was much warmer than we thought it would be, and the entire bottom was sandy there. We spent a lot of our vacation on the back porch which is situated nicely. Overall we had a great stay and look forward to returning in the future!
The layout of the house was quirky (you need to pass though one bedroom to get to the master), and some doors were so warped it took two people to open them. There were several places where the railing on the deck and the steps to the beach were rotted, But the view was amazing. It is the perfect size for a large family. None of the problems prevented my family from having a wonderful time!
We had a wonderful vacation with family and friends. The view and location was fabulous, however we were disappointed with the house in a couple of areas. We had a number of lights and light bulbs that were not working. We had to search thru the closets to try and find working light bulbs. One of the outside chairs had the entire seat broke out of it but a cushion covering it. One of our guests sat in it and went right thru. This should have been addressed by the cleaning group. Serious injuries could have occurred. All the rugs are terribly dirty and stained. We ran the sweeper to try and clean. There are several that are torn and ripped through causing a tripping hazard. Seriously these should just be thrown away. Also the chair/couch covers in the kitchen/great room were terribly dirty and stained. We had to wash all the covers before we could sit on that furniture. This is not our first vacation property that we have rented over the years and just expected a bit more cleanliness and safety given the pictures and description of the property.
We spent a week here with family and enjoyed every minute. The house is beautiful, with almost all of our time being spent outside on the beautiful deck overlooking Lake Walloon. We were able to easily rent a pontoon boat and enjoyed how nice and spacious the dock was. Even on the colder days Petoskey was a short drive to go shopping and get lunch. We would rent this house again in a heartbeat!
We have stayed at various s cottages for the past ten years in northern Michigan and this was the most beautiful place. The wrap around porch facing the lake was fabulous and was where we spent the majority of our vacation. The kitchen was as well equipped as our own and we made all our meals at the cottage. Even the one day of rain was a pleasure to stay in this beautiful and well appointed home!
