About this property
Privacy and space with world class views
Come enjoy this historic home and estate. The views are spectacular and will take your breath away! The property features a historic home, secluded privacy on over 11 acres of waterfront, mature trees and stunning views of the river.
The home is old and has all of the interesting nuances of a historic home that has been added onto over the years. Despite this, all major appliances, utilities, HVAC and equipment have been recently replaced and the house gets regular updates each spring and fall. The property itself sits atop a steep bank over the river which is part of the reason why the views are so stunning. At the base of the bank and directly adjacent to the property is a small public boat launch and a sandbar. At the other end of the property where the grade is more gentle you will find the boat slips, small boat shed and a sandy walk in for launching the smaller boats.
When you're here, it's easy to forget the rest of the world. The house has been in our family for 5 generations. Before that it was home to a local waterman who worked the bay harvesting oysters and crabs. Earlier still, before the house stood, the land was a frequent fall gathering spot for local tribes who used the bluff to roast oysters. Arrowheads and pottery are still found from time to time in the fields.
The covered pier is provided for guests who would like to bring their own boat. If you don't have your own boat feel free to use one of our kayaks, sunfish or canoe. Fishing is good and many guests have good luck directly off the pier. Others choose to paddle out to nearby Sharkstooth Island and fish along the way. Please note, the pier and boathouse are at water level while the house sits atop a small bluff. As such, guests with health issues which make inclined paths difficult may prefer to walk or drive to the public pier on the other side of the property.
Currioman Landings is a very special place to us, we are sure that you will enjoy it as much as we do. We have been continually improving the property to ensure that not only do you have a pleasant experience but that every time you come back there is something new to see and enjoy.
For years this has been a sleepy part of the world, home to farmers, watermen and few others. Making our home available to the public is a part of our family’s mission for rural preservation. We believe that history and open spaces are critical and that they must be preserved and enjoyed by all. For that reason 100% of all rental income is invested for preservation of the property and the protection of local farm lands from development.
Come sit on the swing, look out over the river and get back to the things that matter most.
We hope that you will visit Currioman and enjoy it as much as we do.

Beautiful older house, property is awesome! We visited in early spring, so there was quite a bit of pollen on the screened in porch. and the rug needed to be vacuumed in the porch. These things would not stop me from returning though.
We had a great stay! It was such a nice historic home, well kept and stocked with a beautiful view! Very attentive owner! Thank you! Would love to go back again.
My daughter and her now husband hosted their rehearsal dinner, wedding, and reception here. It is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful and loads of space in the field to set up the tent, tables, and chairs. The house itself is an older costal style, it worked nicely for everyone to get ready in. Everything was clean, had everything we would need, and very cozy.
Had all of our family together for a nice reunion.
Everything was good, had zero issues and should we return to the area we would certainly rebook this property!!!
Ideal location for our family break to enjoy the Northern Neck. Wonderful for kayaking, hiking, biking. Property is well appointed with stocked kitchen and everything needed for a relaxing stay. A great balance of modern amenities and historic charm. Host is communicative and responsive.
My friends booked a last minute staycation to catch up in one place. This place had all the amenities to bring groceries and hunker down for the weekend. The grounds were gorgeous and all the home spaces were cozy. Also, the owner was incredibly communicative before the stay and when we had a few questions during. I hope to find a reason to stay here again in the future.
This is our second time coming to this property as we absolutely love it here! The home and property are perfect for our needs and our dog loves it here, too. We look forward to returning here again soon.
Beautiful views from every window and the peace and quiet was so refreshing. Charming house! The screened in porch was one of our favorite spots to relax. Very comfortable furniture and lots of space to spread out in! Definitely recommend!
Absolutely stunning views, super quiet setting, enjoyed the garden. Wish we had bright paddle boards and kayaks. We did not- failed! The weather was fabulous end of September and the water was not too cold. We had 7 adults and 2 dogs, everyone was very comfortable and had a nice weekend. I was impressed with the size of the Hinoki cypress and the dawn Redwood tree!! View from living room bat window! Photo number 3
Once again, we had a fantastic time at Joe's. I booked this back in January and had been looking forward to it for months. It allowed for the perfect combination of activities during our time: visits to the nearby winery and brewery, bonfire, grilling, kayaking to the island, teleworking, and just reading and relaxing. It was everything we needed and Joe was always super communicative. And the community made us feel very welcomed :) We plan on going back again!
Beautiful location and views, lovely landscape and very peaceful. Sunrises were amazing! Plenty of space for our family of 7. Nothing lacking in the kitchen, plenty of dishes and everything we needed for meal prep. Great communication with host, very attentive to our questions. Great meal at Angelo's in Montross. Will definitely return if schedule permits.
We truly enjoyed our week-long stay! A lovely historic home with everything, plus more, that anyone would need. The property and view are an 11 out of 10! The home was stocked with more incidentals (from soap to ziplock bags and everything in-between) than any other VRBO rental that we have experienced. Joe was a professional host and answered inquiries promptly. We highly recommend this rental! You will love your time spent at this special location!
The property is uniquely sited to catch the sunrise over the sound each morning. Lots of yard for our dog to run around and she loved taking a swim at the boat ramp. We made use of the screened-in area to have lunch each day. We made use of the binoculars to observe osprey, herons, and the occasional Bald eagle. Montross has limited but great restaurants. We had a nice relaxing time.
Our whole family loves staying here. This is a repeat place for us and before we left this time we were already talking about future visits.
It’s so incredibly beautiful and peaceful, and offers lots of opportunity for our kids, as well as us, to explore and also enjoy quality family time together.
If you enjoy music in the home, bring your laptop and plug it into the speaker system and enjoy your favorite tunes while cooking or hanging in the living room.
Beautiful property with magnificent water views ... Lovely older home with mature old plantings ! Great for dogs , wonderful walks ! I could move right in ! We loved the screen porch. It rained some and we stayed on the porch and read and listened to the rain and ate all our meals out there. Loved the sound of the screen door SLAP reminded me of my childhood. WE just LOVED Stradford Hall too !

About the host

Our family has owned this home for five generations. We enjoy spending time on the river, playing games in the field or simply sitting in the shade and enjoying the view. We care preserving this property and protecting local land from development and for that reason, 100% of all rental income is dedicated to maintenance/improvement of the property and adding local farmland to protected status. We have never and will never profit from the rental fees but instead we hope that each time you come you will find new things to enjoy and new areas with nature trails and wildlife to explore.
Why they chose this property
Currioman Landings sits atop a steep bluff over the Potomac which is miles wide at that point. Most people find that the property offers a truly unique escape from the day to day stress of life. From watching the resident bald eagles or walking in the gardens to playing in the river this is one of our favorite places to be. This property combines the elements of a farm house in the country with waterfront and some of the best views in the county. Few properties of this size and prominence remain intact.
What makes this property unique
Tall mature trees and wide yards provide exceptional privacy while allowing plenty of room for a large family to spread out.
Wildlife - 2018 has been one of the better wildlife years in recent recollection. We had two eagles take up residence on the property as well as a rotating cast of herons and other sea birds. The beavers in the creek are still busy working on their den and we see deer in the yard from time to time.
