Only 2.5 hours from Chicago or Detroit, this quiet lakefront year-round retreat on Upper Scott Lake offers the perfect setting for a family or group of friends looking to relax, play, and reconnect in an idyllic setting. This large 3 bedroom/2 bath home on 2 wooded acres is bright and airy and is tastefully decorated in a Country French theme. Enjoy stunning views of the lake and beautifully landscaped yard from a comfortable chair in the large great room or from the huge deck under the massive old oak trees, and watch the sun rise on the water from the pier. In the evenings enjoy a campfire and the star-filled night sky at the lakefront fire pit. The large family room on the lower level is perfect for watching movies or playing games, and the sun room provides a quiet place to curl up and read a book or write in your journal. The fully equipped kitchen is designed for casual cooking or preparing gourmet meals as it is equipped with an all new stainless steel double oven and 5 burner gas range, microwave, large refrigerator, and dishwasher. Dine at the large antique French table that seats 8, on the screened- in porch, or "al fresco" at the large custom built country table on the spacious deck overlooking the grounds and lake. This is truly a four-season retreat: it is equally beautiful as the new growth emerges in the spring, in full summer splendor, as the colors change in fall, and the quiet snow covers the ground in winter. This is a smoke-free home so your cooperation is appreciated and expected. Weekly rates are for 7 nights. Check-in is Saturday at 3 pm, check-out is Saturday at 11 am.

Overall it's a great place to stay. It has well water which kinda caught my adult children off guard, but it didn't take away from our enjoyment of the property.
This lake house was full of charm and the location beautiful. Due to hot humid weather we were only ably to enjoy the deck one day, however the abundant windows brought the view right inside. The kitchen was the most fully stocked I’ve encountered in the many vacation houses I’ve rented. The beds were very comfortable. I would highly recommend.
Absolutely relaxing stay in a beautiful updated home on a gorgeous lake with lots of fishing & swimming opportunity in very close proximity to excellent west Michigan summer towns! This was the best vacation we have taken!
A very nice home and great getaway in a small town. Far enough away that it is quiet and peaceful but not so far away that there's still much to do nearby in surrounding cities
Our stay was really awesome! We loved the house and the location which was peaceful and quiet. The house has a great kitchen and comfortable beds. It is surrounded by trees so it is nicely shaded and stays breezy even when the weather gets hot. The sun room was super cozy, and the basement Tv room was a nice surprise, we loved it.
Also, Jill was super responsive and always available.
Highly recommend this house for a nice and calm getaway !
First time we’ve stayed here in the winter but it was just peaceful (actually more so) and nearly as beautiful. Sunrises and sunsets over the lake, when we could see it but we had a great stay as always.
The home is beautiful and spacious and pet friendly, which means we don’t have to board our baby. Jill, as always, was helpful and responsive.
We love this place and look forward to our next stay.
Our family had a great time here! The house was much larger than expected which was nice, because the kids got their own rooms and they had plenty of space to run their energy off both indoors and outdoors. On the warmer days we actually spent quite a bit of time on the little dock at the lake. It was off-season and chilly when we went, but I'm sure the lake access is a TON of fun in warmer weather! We would definitely come here again! Close-ish access (10-20 minutes) to so many towns, breweries and wineries!
This house is clean and spacious with comfortable furniture and beds. Great kitchen with ample seating inside and on porch. Lovely view of the lake and very wooded outside. The only criticism I have is that there was no cable tv as stated on the website and the WiFi was hit and miss. Otherwise a beautiful home and we enjoyed our stay.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and are truly sorry that the DirectTV was not available due to a service outage with their equipment. It has been repaired and should not be an issue in the future Also, we find that the internet works best in the great room area (kitchen, dining, living room) as that is where the router is located. We will look into improving the router. Thank you for your feedback, and we hope you will visit again!
Beautiful house with lots of space. Great kitchen that was well stocked. My kids loved swimming and fishing off of the dock. This house would not be ideal for young kids as it has many beautiful and fragile things that made me nervous around my rambunctious 4 year old. Make sure you leave plenty of time on your last day to complete the extensive clean list you have to do before you leave.
What a beautiful property. We had a wonderful stay.
If there is anything I’d suggest, it would be to perhaps update the sofa/chair upholstery in the main room, add a Smart TV in the basement and refurbish the dock to allow for sitting/relaxation.
The property is close to Fennville (Crane’s Pie Pantry, Fenn Valley Vineyard), Saugatuck (Oval Beach and plenty of shopping), Douglas (Summerhouse Lavender Farm) and Holland (Apothecary Gift Shop, Boatwerks restaurant) which is a big plus.
BUT, it’s far enough away to get away from the crowds.
I stayed at “The Rooster” last July/August for 4+ weeks. It was a great home base to explore the area. Sat on the dock every morning with my coffee watching a Bald Eagle catching fish. The evening dock time was perfect for watching the stars.
I enjoyed watching multiple families enjoying the lake on their boats.
Saugatuck and South Haven were great tourist destinations.
Sunset cruise out of Saugatuck is a must.
Hit the Dutch Farm market up the road a couple miles. Fresh produce and baked goods were amazing.
Saw a Hognose Snake the first day. That was cool.
Positives
The property was beautiful with large shade trees and view of the lake from the house and patio. Quaintly decorated with French-themed country house. Fully equipped with everything one would need to cook and entertain a group of guests.
Negatives
The entire home needs a deep cleaning inside and out (especially the cobweb-filled windows and the kitchen). The refrigerator leaked constantly onto the kitchen floor. Deck chairs were dirty and old…need to be replaced.
Beds were supposed to be queen sized but were full-size…disappointing
We had a wonderful week in Pullman, Michigan at the "French Rooster". Everthing you need to enjoy a home away from home is there! From the lovely home inclusive of a nice sized screened in porch to have your coffee in the morning sitting in an andirondack chair and listening to the birds early morning or enjoying dinner or a snack at the lovely glass table without the worry of bugs interrupting dinner. Nice small lake to float on and take in the sunshine and a large fire pit to enjoy your evenings by the water!! Very nice neighbors, yet quiet and peaceful! It was only a 20 minute country drive to get to South Haven for shopping and to enjoy wonderful Lake Michigan and the beach. Last but not least the property manager Jill was great to work with and had the property clean and ready for us along with helpful tips! Thanks Jill and the owners of "French Rooster" for providing a clean and inviting home to enjoy for the week. Tip to future renters: "Be sure to look at the photo album and misc photos on the desk in the sunroom off the master bedroom. It really tells the story of how "French Rooster" became this lovely cottage.

Thank you so much for your comments. I am really happy you enjoyed our home and hope you will visit us again.
The house layout is lovely. Beautiful floors.
Lake view- it’s a pretty lake but really not a lake to get into. Mushy ground and lots of seaweed. Dock isn’t great. No easy access if one wanted to kayak or board. Thank God a beach was 20 minutes away.
This house is in the woods too. Nothing really around. There is a dollar store thankfully! Bring plenty of bottled water!! The house has a well and septic system. The water is AWFUL!!! it smells SO bad!! Rotten eggs! Get a bag of ice and a case of water to start the stay!
The furniture needs a really good update. Very darlin to look at- back breaking to sit in. Beds thankfully are decent and linens nice.
Overall the view, porches and layout of the house are the highlights. TV didn’t work. WiFi is really slow- water is bad!!
We stayed at the French Rooster this July, 2024. The home was very clean and the bedroom set up met our needs. We enjoyed that there was plenty of space to have privacy when needed. The screened-in porch and the extra sitting room by the bedrooms were great places to enjoy our time. The home is very remote and wooded which allowed for peace and quiet! Kitchen utensils and dinner/cook ware were sufficient, as were the provided paper products. We didn't have any trouble with the internet. The TV is in the lower level, and we never watched it. A bit of out of sight/out of mind. This allowed us GREAT conversation time and unplugging. We did agree that the lighting in the main area was not great for reading, even when sitting next to the table lamp. The couches and chairs were a little mushy, but they were comfortable. Beds were firm and comfortable. Disappointed in the access to the lake, the dock had no steps into the water, there wasn't a beach and the water's edge was murky and weedy, so couldn't just wade in. But, we're older, so this wasn't a big deal to us. Overall, would definitely stay here again.
This is the second time we have stayed at this home and like the first time, we enjoyed it immensely. The home is well cared for and they continue to improve the stay experience.
The host s are easy to work with and responsive. As we have stayed here before, we new what to expect and our expectations were met (and exceeded with some updated bedding, kitchen items, etc.).
This home is perfect for a large family or couples traveling together. Large enough that you can have your space and with enough size in the great room and basement entertainment room that you can have a bunch of people without feeling cramped.
Another great experience and we hope to return again.
My family of 5 had a delightful long weekend at the French Rooster. The house was lovely with plenty of room to stretch out. It was in perfect proximity to all the activities we wanted to do. Quiet, restful, retreat.
Stayed for three days and really enjoyed the house and the land. Spent the first night sitting out on the dock looking at the stars. The house is clean and very comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed and had everything we needed. The beds are comfortable and there was plenty of room for the three of us.
We really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back.

Lovely home
The home's interior is lovely and very comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed, which made it so easy for us to prepare meals during our stay. The beds were comfortable and the sheets soft
Suggested improvements/repairs: Power wash deck flooring, railing, to remove built up algae/mold, debris. Repair broken railing adjacent to outdoor dining table, railing banisters leading down to lake. Power wash siding, gutters, windows, deck chairs. Suggest leaving a leaf blower to use to blow leaves and debris. Repair hole in dock deck. Clean all door jambs and kitchen trash can. Re-caulk sink, level fridge to correct leak.
