Maggie’s Farm, Balsam Grove
What a great place! We stayed a week, there was sun there was rain, and even ice on the grass! Loved feeding the fish! Pisgah National forest has lots of things to do. Waterfalls, hiking, scenic views, and having a comfortable warm place to return to was fabulous. Mark and Jacquie were wonderful hosts! We plan on returning!

We stayed a week and absolutely loved our stay. If you’re looking for serenity and beauty that surrounds you like a hug, you’ll want to stay at Maggie’s. We’ll be back with and without family since you can’t absorb all all there is in just 1 visit. Strongly suggest grabbing breakfast items and any grocery type before you get to the cabin(s). You’ll be happy you did because you just want to stay on the farm.

Beautiful location and lovely hosts
We stayed at Maggie’s Farm this August and I can’t say enough good things about the location and the hosts! Desperately needed a peaceful and restful getaway after the loss of my Mom. The accommodations were excellent, cozy and inviting. Everything you could possibly need was provided by the hosts. We brought our mini Pomeranian with us and she loves the creek. The vegetable and flower gardens were beautiful and we enjoyed fishing and and the local waterfalls. Jacquie and Mark incredibly warm and kind and really made our visit even more special. They made us feel welcome and are truly the heart of this amazing place. We will definitely be back and hope to bring our kids in the future.

We were tired of the corporate life we were living and just working to pay bills. So we decided to take a leap of faith and buy a cabin in the forest of NC on a cold water creek, just outside of Asheville near the Blue Ridge Parkway. We wanted a more peaceful meaningful life. Mark is originally from Southampton England and Jacquie from Boston Massachusetts. We met in Central Florida working in our busy careers. We decided that when we retired we would buy a farm in the mountains and grow our own food and live off the land. It has been the most peaceful rewarding 10 years of our lives. We have 3 friendly dogs, 2 German Shepherds and a Hound.

Why they chose this property

We spent over a year looking for the perfect property for us. It had to have several things: a creek, high elevation, pasture, forest land, a beautiful town was a must (Brevard), close to activities and near a city (Asheville). This property had all we were looking for and it was on the market for only 72 hours. Living here is like a slice of heaven. There is 5 1/2 acres on Maggie's Farm and we border thousands of acres of Pisgah Forest on 2 sides of the property. We built our home across the creek and in the very back corner of the property. In case of emergency we are just down the road a bit.

What makes this property unique

The back deck is so relaxing, watch and listen to the creek while enjoying a lazy afternoon. Just beyond the creek we border the Pisgah National Forest where there are thousands of acres of forest and trails. Transylvania county is "The Land of Waterfalls" with over 250 waterfalls. The property location is the perfect jumping off point for nearly everything you want to see or do in Western North Carolina and come home to a comfy cabin and bed. There is a stocked rainbow trout pond on property along with 1000+ feet of natural cold water stream with brown trout running through the farm directly behind the cabin. Maggie's Farm has blackberries, blueberries and raspberries for picking. We grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables which can be eaten while on your stay. You can actually have a full dinner all from food grown right here on the farm during the harvest season.
