It is a large spacious area divided between a sitting and living area and the bedroom area with a full bathroom and kitchenette. In the living area, the couch folds down into a bed. There is a kitchenette with a microwave, sink, and refrigerator as well as a newly remodeled full bathroom.
A brand new high end self inflatable air mattress has been made available for guests. The allows up to four adults to sleep comfortably. It takes less than five minutes to inflate and deflate. There are linens available for the bed as well.
Some of the best restaurants in the region are a walk-able handful of blocks away. Wake up to one of the most incredible brunches around at Jam on Hawthorne. Get there and enjoy a mimosa while you wait.- There is always a line for good reason.
Finish it off with dinner at Ava Gene's and enjoy an Italian dinner with farm fresh ingredients hand made pasta where everything is special. These are just a few of the dozens of incredible restaurants, bars, and stores up and down Division and Hawthorne. Whether you choose to walk, bike, or ride-share .. everything is accessible.

Additional Property Information:
We do ask that you please remember this is a private basement apartment with the rest of the home above. The owners above live normal lives and you will likely hear footsteps from them, their dogs, and/or a distant muffled voice. Because of their dogs, if someone comes to the door or there is lots of noise outside you may hear a bark. Also for this reason that only a single small dog is permitted on the premises. No large dogs are allowed at all and only 1 max. In the event you do bring your small dog and decide to leave them in the basement apartment while you are out and about, we do require that they are put in a crate (we have had other dogs cause damage to the doors/furniture in the past and want to avoid this happening again).

Thank you so much for the kind words. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the accommodations and the neighborhood, and that you found us to be pleasant hosts.
Your experience means a great deal to us. If there’s anything we could have done differently or any suggestions you’d be willing to share that would help us earn a 5-star review, we would truly appreciate the feedback.
Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future.
This property is a convenient 5 min walk to coffee houses and restaurants. It is located in a quiet neighborhood. The space is well equipped and very comfortable for 2 adults. We were visiting family living in the areas and would definitely stay here again for another visit.
We were in town for friends wedding and this place was a great home base for us. The space was set up very well for being a basement apartment. It was also super clean and comfortable. The location is really excellent, walking distance to many restaurants and shops on Hawthorne and Division. Also a short drive to many attractions and venues closer to downtown and the river.
Great place. The space was large and comfortable. I was traveling alone and felt safe. Great neighborhood with lots of food and vintage stores within walking distance.
Property was as described. I felt it was very cozy and I liked that it was only a 15 minute walk to Hawthorne (location of restaurants) and a short walk to the busline. The property is located in a quiet neighborhood.
Great location. Had microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker and they supplied coffee. Didn't have a toaster. Didn't have any regular glasses--did have wine glasses and coffee mugs though. Had a hot plate in a drawer but no pots or pans to use on it. Didn't have a kitchen table. Bed is in the kitchen area and the living area is around the corner with a fold out couch. Very little sound insulation between upstairs and our apartment. That was pretty bad on cleaning day but otherwise tolerable. Our apartment space was not secured. There was an outside combination lock entry that lets you in to the lower level, but no lock on our actual space. The upstairs people can come down through the house and we had no way to lock up our area--no key. We could lock it from the inside but could not lock or make it secure from the upstairs when we were gone. We identified the issue to the property management company the day after we arrived and they gave us the run-arround for 11 days (we stayed 17). The owner who lived upstairs was great when he found out and he added a lock in a timely fashion. The property management company, however, was terrible. We notified VRBO about a week in to our stay because the management Co. was so unhelpful, and VRBO just told us to be patient because it was the weekend. Thanks to the owner for fixing it, but they should re-assess their management company. We won't stay in places that use them in the future.
It was very cozy as someone who lived in many basements it was fun to stay in one again. Great location in town as my parents are in sellwood.. beds were comfy and toilet paper soft
Good communication, except.when I reported a dead rat at the entry door and was asked if there was something they wanted them to do and was there for 2 days. Obviously an AI generated response. Also, wish the door to my space could be locked when I went out for the day.
Overall the listing was as described. It was neat and clean. The only issue was that it was quite cold upon arrival and took awhile for the heating sources to adequately heat the unit. The same occurred the following day upon return after exploring Portland.

Thank you for your review and for staying with us! We're glad to hear the space met your expectations in terms of cleanliness and accuracy.
We appreciate you letting us know about the heating delay during your stay. While the unit can take a bit of time to warm up in colder weather, we’ve since had the heating system professionally serviced to ensure it’s operating more efficiently and warms the space faster. Guest comfort is very important to us, and we’ve taken steps to make sure future guests arrive to a cozy, welcoming environment.
Thank you again for your feedback—it helps us continue to improve. We hope to welcome you back the next time you're in Portland!
Kids upstairs got a bit loud, but they curbed it when we them aware.

We weren’t super impressed with our stay in Portland. I even called the number to tell them I wouldn’t be giving a 4 star review and was told I would be contacted by management who never called.

Convenience and amenities
Location was perfect for us. We made use of shops and restaurants on Hawthorne. It was close to our son's home. Our unit was equipped with excellent bathroom facilities, tv, fireplace, kitchen, lighting.
A few complaints: sleeper couch was uncomfortable and bedding insufficient. As it was a basement unit, it seemed a bit dank.

Hi Sally,
We appreciate your recent review and are happy to hear you found it to be a perfect location!
I'm very sorry to hear of the sleeper couch, we'd be happy to evaluate at that!
It was a pleasure hosting you!
Everything was absolutely perfect, If you are not coffee drinkers...
The coffee machine is very hard to use. It makes one cup at a time, and leaks, spilling outside of the cup and mixing ground with the brew (even when directions for its use are scrupulously followed).

Fine, no frills.
Apartment was clean, a bit cold (December rental) but fine. Hated the coffee pot. Being the PNW, that was surprising. Between the cleaning fee and taxes, the daily rate is really not accurate. But that is a problem with the whole VR system.

Hello Peter,
I am glad you enjoyed your stay in Portland and were happy with the cleanliness of the apartment. Yes, it can be quite cold here in December, but luckily with the heaters it can help heat the space up. Sorry, you did not like the coffee pot, it is a pretty standard one. I am not sure what you were expecting as you mentioned from the PNW, but we have never had anyone ever complain about the coffee pot before or that it wasn't fancy enough? Lastly, yes, just like hotels there are transient lodging taxes that get added to every booking, but that is the requirement of the city, state and county. We do have a cleaning fee to pay the cleaner, but other than that the fees are out of our control and are on every listing. Anyway, we hope you come back and visit again, Happy Holidays!

No AC, LOUD upstairs neighbors, Lack of bedding/comfort
Immediately noticed a very musky smell, No Air Condition and a very menecaing letter on coffee table about how they use a device somewhere in the unit to messure our decibels as visitors and if at any point they decide the decible of volume is too high they can Immediately evict. Ironically, their dogs and loud foot steps and slamming doors woke everyone up in a panic at 7:30am sharp. Never spoke to the owners once our whole visit until the day we were packing and they were very cold, stand offish and almost unhappy to run into us (their guest.) The sleeper couch has a huge metal pole through the very center and was unsleepable. The place was barely cleaned before arrival. Dust and dirt underneath everything and the hand soap had water added to it so they didn't have to buy more. Overall pretty shabby, over priced and over rated. Just go to a hotel.
This place is what it says, a basement rental in a residential house in a lovely neighbourhood, close to great areas to explore. The bed is comfortable, bathroom was nice and clean. Considering all the extra fees that were paid it is very pricey for what is is. The upstairs tenants and furnace were VERY loud so it was hard to relax. The place is minimally supplied with very basic essentials but no way to make a cup of tea or boil water other than in the microwave. It was clean on the surface but do not drop anything under the bed as it will come back very dusty. The couch does turn into a bed but my 9 year old kiddo found it very uncomfortable as there is a metal bar under one side. We did receive prompt and helpful communication about how to close the vents and open the windows so we wouldn't overheat down there. As a single woman travelling with my daughter I didn't find this place comfortable, it does have a separate entrance but it goes through a hallway where there are multiple doors and no way was presented to lock the inside door to the unit when we went out for the day. I don't like leaving negative reviews but I found this rental to be quite overpriced in comparison to my other experiences in Portland.

We strive to be as transparent as possible to allow guests to make an informed choice when booking.
When using platform services I believe all fees are presented beforehand prior to booking.
We are sorry this did not meet your needs but we do feel it is listed and presented adequately to what is provided and a fair price.

Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere
Upon entry, there was a very musty smell in the hall that led into the apartment. The coffee pot had old & moldy coffee grounds in it. There was a dirty sock, contact case, and dirt under the table. The extra blow up mattress was thrown into the closet. I seriously wondered if my sheets were even clean. Also- this is a bi-level, you do have your own locked entry but you also have an apartment door. When you are in the apartment you can lock it but you can’t lock the door when you leave. I did not feel particularly safe leaving anything valuable in the apartment. I e-mailed the property manager, Corey. I sent him the above information as well as pictures. Corey apologized and said it was unacceptable. He then told me he would refund my cleaning fee. I said when he did that, I would leave a neutral review- he then proceeded to ask me to leave no review. Needless to say, I did not get a refund. It makes me wonder how many other reviewers got a ‘refund’
This is not clean. Renter Beware.

We have had hundreds of stays at this property and there is almost never a complaint about any kind of cleaning issue. Our cleaners are human and rarely something can be missed like a coffee filter. There is an outer door that can be locked so I am not sure what you are referring to there. Once you start telling me about what type of review you will leave based on how much I can refund you is extortion and I no longer engage.
