Secluded Modern Home on 132 Acres, 2 Miles to Purgatory Ski Area
Our 1,500 sq ft, 2 bedroom (queen beds), 2 bath, custom home was built in 2007 and offers the most privacy and seclusion of any property near Purgatory Ski Area as it sits on 132 acres, yet is less than 2 miles from the ski resort, and 25 miles from downtown Durango.
The gourmet kitchen has stainless steel appliances. The main living space and master bedroom feature 55 inch flat screen TV's with 5.1 surround sound. The leather couch in the main living space converts to an incredibly comfortable and supportive queen bed. The large covered porch is a great place for lounging and watching the sun disappear over the mountains in the evening. The house is surrounded front and back with Colorado Rocky Mountain Wildflowers.
The property boarders the Weminuche National Forest to the North and East, which is the largest and most unused wilderness area in North America. There are numerous lakes and ponds on the property, and a road to higher elevations where the views of the surrounding mountains and lakes are spectacular.
If you bring your dog, it will have a great time chasing wildlife and playing in the forest.
If you need more space, we have a 3 Bedroom 3 bath on the property about 1/4 mile from this house.
A 4WD/AWD with snow rated tires is required November through March. If you plan to drive a vehicle not so equipped, please book elsewhere. Although the roads are extremely well maintained, we want to ensure our neighbors are not adversely impacted by our guests who may not regularly drive on snow packed roads.
We love dogs, as long as they are well behaved, and get along with people and other dogs. Sky runs free on the property.

This is a beautiful cabin! We had everything we needed and our host was very good about allowing early arrival and gave us some extra time at checkout as well! We will definitely be trying to stay here again!
This cabin was the perfect basecamp for a couple of days of skiing at Purgatory. Completely private and just minutes from the resort, it’s ideally located between Durango and Silverton. The cabin was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The wood-burning fireplace was a wonderful bonus and made evenings especially cozy after a day on the mountain. We brought our two dogs, and they absolutely loved exploring the surrounding woods and we enjoyed taking in the beautiful mountain views. We’ve already recommended this place to friends who plan to visit the area next summer. Thanks Sean!

Sarah and Alex,
Hopefully you both are rested, relaxed, and ready to return to your fast paced lives. It was great to meet you both!
Sean's cabins are perfect if you prefer a secluded cabin getaway, but something still very close to the mountain. The surroundings are stunning, and the cabin itself is better classified at a luxury mountain dwelling.
We loved this place! It’s just the right about of seclusion. It’s got great access to trails and the ski resort if you’re there during winter. It’s a great size for a family of four and very well equipped for cooking. Will definitely be coming back. Thanks!
Had a great stay! An amazing property, remote home with great location to Purgatory, private with breathtaking views!

Thanks Nichole. Sorry I missed you all while you were here. I was hiking the Long Range Traverse in Newfoundland. It is one of the top 15 hikes on the planet. No trail, all map and compass skills. I understand you met Leslie and Lucy though. Leslie tells me your daughter is super cute!
Thanks for visiting.

About the host
Hosted by Sean McCormack
Sean grew up in the area, skiing every weekend at Purgatory, and graduating from Durango High School before leaving to experience life outside this rural community. After 25 years, he decided to move back to the mountains of Southwest Colorado to be close to family and all of the outdoor activities.
Why they chose this property
This area is the Saudi Arabia of solar energy, with plenty of water and lots of trees. It is easy to build a comfortable and highly sustainable life here. All of the houses, barns, and greenhouse were built using wood harvested from the property. The 27' x 110' greenhouse provides fruits and vegetables not only for Sean and Sky, but for a number of other families in the area. Standing dead trees are harvested and provide a backup heat source for all the homes and buildings, with an additional 120 cords of wood harvested for sale, providing a carbon neutral source of heat. The trees are harvested primarily to improve the health of the forest.
What makes this property unique
There is nothing better than cozying up to a real wood fire after a full day of skiing, watching the snow fall during the winter, or lounging on the covered deck and watching the sun disappear over the mountains during the summer. The kids will have a great time exploring the forest, fishing in the nearby creeks or lakes, biking, horseback riding, riding the Alpine Slide and Mountain Coaster at Purgatory, or the many other activities close by.
