About this property

Rustic, Artsy & Cozy Getaway Cabin in Laurel Highlands- minutes from Ligonier

Rustic and charming getaway in the Laurel Highlands. Enjoy country surroundings 3 miles from downtown Ligonier and all its wonderful shops and restaurants.

Renovated, contemporary kitchen, gas fireplace and wood burning stove, sunny sunroom and rustic fire pit are a few of the amenities that will make you feel welcome. Rolling hills and wildlife surround this built-into the hillside cabin.

Newly added (June 2023) second floor bathroom with shower and window view of rolling hills has been very popular with guests. We also added a washer dryer on first floor which makes the cabin a complete dream spot to enjoy.

Gourmet style kitchen for hanging out or preparing a meal. If you like to cook, you’ll find a large selection of pots and pans, serving pieces and ceramic dishware. Plenty of water and wine glasses and assorted other kitchen items such as waffle maker, blender and coffee press.

Beautiful deck-porch off the sun room at the lower level is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view and peace and quiet of the countryside. Great place for morning coffee too.

2 nice sized bedrooms, recently painted and finished with excellent beds and bedding.
Extra sleeping available - Two twin blow up mats always available. i
Cabin decor is an eclectic mix of furniture- antiques, thrift shop finds and interesting artwork and artifacts. "rustic!"

The cozy sunroom is a combination living room and dining area that is the favorite place to hang. Nine windows give you a birds eye view to the woods, mountains, fields and meadows. The gas fired ‘wood’ stove heats up at the flip of a switch and keeps it toasty and cozy. In the kitchen the cast iron wood stove is available to enjoy a real woodburning fire.

Industrial style staircase leads from the upper level to the lower level entrance, complete with flowering garden on each side. Where this cool welded hunk of metal staircase came from, we don't know, but we love it and it is a favorite spot to sit.

The surrounding area is filled with many activities and areas to explore when Snow season is here!

Enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, or sitting in the lodge and enjoying the view at the major snow attractions in the area.

Area ski and snow resorts include Seven Springs, Laurel Mountain, and Hidden Valley. All are easily accessible and offer many family activities for enjoying the beautiful seasons.

The town of Ligonier is 3 easy miles away with its many restaurants and charming shops. The Diamond is the gazebo and small park at the center of town that is beautifully decorated for the holiday and winter as well as year round.

Enjoy hiking and relaxing at the beautiful Linn Run sate park, only 15 minutes away.

ALSO NOTE
Please note that the cabin front is very close to a low traffic Wilpen road. We have had many guests with small children stay as well as pets and this hasn't been an issue but wanted to point it out clearly.

Please also note that the cabin is built into a hillside so there are steps to navigate. If you or anyone in your party has climbing or navigating stairs as an issue, please check pictures before you book. Bedrooms are on upper level with stairs to the lower level kitchen, sunroom, bathroom.

Pets are welcome- you will be charged a $50.00 fee when booking. We ask that you keep pets contained in a crate (condo:) if left unattended. Also, we provide extra sheets for furniture and bed covering if your pet is on these pieces. Please clean up and keep pet hair to minimum. You will be charged for additional cleaning if necessary. Thank you for your understanding.

The property is cozy and nicely decorated and set up well for sitting outside. It is right on the road, but not much traffic, so it isn't noisey.

Cozy Cabin

My husband and I spent 3 nights in this lovely cabin. It was perfect for cross country skiing and an easy drive to Seven Springs for some downhill. The property was clean, as described, and the communication with host was easy.We had our dog with us and bowls, towels and toys were available for her, too. Would definitely recommend!

Cozy

We had a great time. The cabin was cozy and well stocked. They even thought of our dog by leaving him treats to enjoy and Pooh bags if we needed them. There is lots of hiking in the area. Great food options and breweries to explore. And the king size bed was super comfy, with comfy pillows.

Sweet!

This is a sweet cabin that is comfortably rustic and not too far away from town. I especially appreciate that my dog was welcome! Lenor and Tom were a delight to work with.

Weekend getaway

We stayed at the cozy cabin for a long weekend in January. The cabin was clean and very cozy. Our daughter loved the sunroom where she was able to play. She also loved that they had s’mores for her! Lenor responded fast to all of our questions and any small issue we had. She also allowed us to check in early and check out late which made it really nice for us! We can't wait to stay again!

Perfect!

The cabin was great! Quiet, private. Very clean, everything you needed was provided. We ended up needing help with something minor on our end (no fault of the owners) and when we reached out they were able to have someone there faster than excepted. Highly recommend!

As advertised

All the comforts of home in a cabin away from it all. Everything went very well and we found everything there we needed. Would have been absolutely perfect if 1) the couch was a little more comfortable and 2) the keybox numbers are EXTREMELY hard to see using a flashlight at night. Other than those 2 minor observations it was perfect. The hosts were always available if needed.

Peaceful, comfy, well-appointed, and super clean

We loved this cottage. Here's our Top Ten favorite aspects. 1. Super clean - I'm very picky about cleanliness, especially in the kitchen and bath. This cottage sparkled! 2. OMG the master bedroom mattress - perfect firmness, not too much or too little. Slept better than I've ever slept away from home. 3. Communication - the owners answered every question (and we asked a lot) very quickly and completely. 4. Attention - the owners knew we had kids and dogs, and took extra care to welcome them, with treats and little touches, like the trundle bed already set up. 5. Well-appointed - the kitchen was well stocked, and everything we needed was right there. No last minute runs to pick up a corkscrew, for example. 6. Linens - Extra sheets, which we didn't need but were nice to have, and a ton of towels and washcloths - another item on my must-have list. 7. Art - I loved the quirky, original art and objects scattered around. The personality of the owners came through but was subtle enough that the cottage felt like ours for the week. 8. Nature - we loved walking the backroad behind the cottage, and snacked on wild black raspberries along the way. 9. Air conditioning - it was 90+ degrees most days, but the window air conditioners kept up and kept us cool. 10. Pup-friendly - it was so meaningful to bring our two Shelties along, we all had a great time!

Perfect weekend

The property was perfect for our family weekend celebrating our daughter’s graduation from college. The parking was a little unnerving at first because we weren’t sure if there was enough room but we fit two cars fine in front and our oversized SUV down below. Communication with Lenor and Tom was fantastic and they answered right away with any questions we had. We will definitely refer anyone looking for a quiet retreat to stay there. If you are looking for a quiet clean place to stay that has a lot to do around this is definitely a good place to stay.

Lovely Retreat in Scenic PA

We were able to spend important time away for writing and planning while also exploring central PA. We were not so far away from Pittsburgh that we couldn't meet up with our daughter for an afternoon, but far enough away to enjoy the scenic creekside drives and beautiful mountain vistas of the surrounding area. We even made a day trip of visiting State College & cute little downtown Bellefonte. We will definitely come back this way in warmer weather to spend time walking around downtown in the shops & restaurants of Ligonier itself! Our hosts were responsive and very hospitable. We had everything we needed for an extended stay (10 days). We were truly blessed by them and our time at their cabin.

Fur family get away

My partner and i along with our 2 pups stayed for the weekend and checked out the town of ligonier for the first time. The house was as described- rustic artsy cozy cottage. Lenor & Tom had all the comforts of home. Super cute & clean place! The 2 small issues are: the front door knob was wonky and it took some extra time for the key to open it (lots of jiggling back & forth). The other thing is the house is very close to the street (like 10 feet) & we parked in front of it but once we got used to it we felt comfy with that. There is a long back driveway but it was snow covered and off another road. Looks easy for next time though. We’ll def be back if we’re welcome.

Cozy Cottage

We spent a lovely long weekend at Tom and Lenor's place. The cottage is rustic and eclectic—as promised in the listing—and has the feel of a space that the owners use and enjoy themselves. We spent most of our trip playing card games and reading by the fireplace in the sunroom, and made some great meals in the well-stocked kitchen. The huge comfy bed in the master bedroom was the perfect place to cuddle up with the whole family for a movie night (and sleep in on Sunday morning thanks to the wonderfully generous checkout time). I appreciate hosts like Tom and Lenor, who share their knowledge of the area, communicate well, and keep a space with personality and soul. The cottage was neat and clean, with many thoughtful amenities provided, from extra blankets to art supplies to welcome snacks. Would definitely return!

About the host

Hosted by Tom and Lenor Mirochna

Host profile image
My husband Tom and I grew up in Michigan and have lived in Woodbury, New Jersey for over 30 years. We love where we live, about 15 miles from our favorite big city, Philadelphia.
We Love our urban area but also really enjoy the peacefulness of trees, streams and farms like we have found in the Laurel Highlands.

We purchased this cabin in 2009 after one of many over-the-years road trips to visit family in Michigan.

Why they chose this property

We affectionately (?#%$$XXX) nicknamed the cabin our 'money pit.' Many years later (it seemed like MANNNNNNY) we have completed the renovation, or what I like to call phase one. (Tom, my husband does not agree with that but I digress) We love the area and enjoy the peacefulness of the countryside. We also Love the fact that there are many things to do outdoorsy or artsy, fun shopping, a quickly improving foodie scene and must see experiences within less than an hour away- Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water and Flight 98 Memorial to name a couple.

What makes this property unique

We like the fact that you can see many stars at night. And we like the fact that we 'unplug' a little while we are at the cabin.
