About this property
PRIVATE OCEANFRONT COMPOUND with spectacular ocean views from nearly every room
JAQUISH LANE Perched on a stretch of rocky Maine coast, Jaquish Lane is a fully renovated oceanfront compound with stunning views of the sea from nearly every room. The property is well off the main road, and offers total privacy. Jaquish Lane consists of two separate structures (Jaquish House and #14) connected by an open grassy lawn.
JAQUISH HOUSE is a large, luxurious family home with a huge open plan living area with sweeping ocean views. The master suite has breathtaking views from the king sized bed - as well as the jacuzzi soaking tub.
“NUMBER 14” is a gem-like efficiency "honeymoon cottage" for two from the early 1900’s - when there was little else on the island.
Enjoy naps on the porch or walk to nearby beaches, restaurants and shops. Explore tidepools along the water’s edge or take advantage of the world class striper fishing from the rocks . Eat lobster freshly pulled from the sea by local lobstermen. Go sailing to nearby Eagle Island or kayak the miles of peaceful Harpswell coastline. Curl up in front of the fireplace with a book and a glass of wine.
Whatever you choose to do, it all comes back to the view. Crashing waves or perfect calm – the sea is a constant and ever changing presence at both Jaquish House and Number 14. Sit back and watch the ocean change with the weather. Hour by hour. Minute by minute. Always different. Always beautiful.
Jaquish Lane is a place to gather, surrounded by friends and family. A place for sharing meals and stories and remembering how wonderful it feels to truly let yourself slow down.
Both JAQUISH HOUSE and NUMBER 14 were completely renovated in early 2015. The chefs kitchen features all new appliances as well as high efficiency washer and dryer. Bedrooms all have brand new mattresses and are furnished with luxury bedding and linens. JAQUISH HOUSE features one King sized Master suite with en suite bathroom featuring an oceanfront jacuzzi soaking tub. One Queen bedroom with ocean views, one Queen bedroom with 48" television and blu ray player, and one "bunk room" with 4 twin beds. Free wifi - high speed internet throughout. NUMBER 14 has one Queen bed, an ensuite bathroom with clawfoot tub and tiled shower, and a kitchenette with sink, stovetop, microwave and fridge.
NUMBER 14 is available from May 1st to November 1st. * * * EVENTS Jaquish Lane is perfectly set up to host small weddings, family reunions, or other special gatherings, and can be rented with the property next door - The Gills (vrbo 318909) which sleeps an additional 6 and The Red House (vrbo 1063510) which sleeps 4. We had a wonderful stay, everything was great and clean, it’s a beautiful home for a family vacation.Views are spectacular and house is well furnished and great for a family.
Delayed by one year 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Peg & me.Children (& spouses), g-children and my wife’s sister all able to join us this year.Oceanside house was beautifully situated for consistent great views (including a whale one morning!) and a comfortable sense of privacy. Very eclectic furnishings that fit well together! All in all, definitely, an A stay!Mike Coyne
The house was amazing as was the setting. We are a family of 6 (all grown kids) and everyone had plenty of room to relax and unwind and be together inside and out! Dave, our property manager was incredibly responsive and lovely. We had such a wonderful time!
Absolutely loved this quintessential Maine home. Perfect for spending time with family and relaxing. The view is breathtaking with wonderful breezes and subtle buoy chimes in the background. Host was responsive to our inquiry.
We had a wonderful stay at Jaquish House. We were nine adults and a toddler. Toddler, mom and dad stayed in the cottage and the rest of us stayed in the main house. The common spaces, including the kitchen, were great for a large group and well equipped. The property location, on a bluff right on the ocean, was really fantastic with stunning views. The check in was very easy and Dave the property manager was always available. One issue we noticed was that there were no smoke detectors in either house, which should be addressed immediately. But overall we loved our visit to Jaquish House.
We sat and watched a major winter storm outside the window. Very exciting from within a cozy house. We enjoyed staying in a house where you could feel somebody's presence, rather than the "accessorized" vacation homes with welcoming signs from the Dollar store etc. Only thing lacking--place needs a new key box because the existing one is hard enough to use that it feels like it won't work. Gorgeous place!

Hello,
Sorry for the delay in follow up, but we did replace the key box right away. Thank you for letting us know there was an issue. The salt air on the island certainly accelerates the life expectancy of outdoor objects such as these.
I was so impressed with the care taken in the property. It really is a special place. We had six adults and three kids so were left with plenty of space to hang out. The kitchen was really well equipped (less a dishwasher, but we adjusted to that pretty quickly). We had a lot of rain but the common space was large and comfortable and a perfect place to watch a storm roll through.
All was good except the bedroom with the waterbed-like frame. It was uncomfortable. Also not air conditioned. We could have used a dishwasher. The setting was great. Overall, it was a good experience.

I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay in Maine. The "waterbed" frame bedroom has a Tempur-Pedic mattress (all the other rooms have traditional mattresses). I'd never slept on one - but after hearing from people how much they LOVED them, I decided to take a chance and purchase one for that room. I'm sorry to hear you found it uncomfortable. The house does have newly installed air conditioning units both upstairs and down - but there isn't a unit in every single room, but I've made sure there are plenty of fans available. Until just a few years ago, even the THOUGHT of needing air conditioning in Maine was outrageous... I hope to have you back on the island someday.
Great house, great view, great communication. The house was super comfortable and relaxed for our group of adults, little kids and dog. Kitchen was well equipped but just note there’s no dishwasher. I expected to be able to walk down from the house to a rocky beach but it’s just a large rocky drop off. However we did enjoy the small sandy beach that’s just a 2 minute walk down the road for incredible sunrises and sunsets Would love to return sometime!

So glad you enjoyed your stay here at Jaquish Lane. We hope you will be able to soon return to Bailey Island for relaxation and making more memories.
Beautiful house with all the amenities you could ask for. The kitchen is well stocked to prepare great meals of the local seafood. Location and plentiful beautiful views made this stay awesome. Plenty to do and see. This is a beautiful area of the country. Experienced a Nor'easter during our stay too. We lost power but not to worry, our property contact Dave was there in a moment's notice to fire up the generator. He was a gem in taking care of us and making sure everything was perfect. I hope to return next year!
We loved our visit to this beautiful Maine home. The ocean views were amazing from the great room, deck, and master bedroom and bath. The sunrises were breathtaking. We enjoyed watching the lobster boats checking their traps each day and the boats sailing in Casco Bay. The open living space was great for our family of 5 adults and a dog to spend time together – very spacious and comfortable. There were books, games and puzzles to keep everyone busy. The kitchen was well equipped with everything that we needed – there really was no need to leave, although we did enjoy a couple of delicious meals at local restaurants right on the island. This home is awesome – a wonderful place to relax, spend time together, and just enjoy the spectacular views.
The trip got off to a great start when we entered the home, dimly lit and with a fire roaring. It was already dark, so we could not see the ocean, but when we awoke the next morning, we could then see the beautiful ocean views and rocky coast from the expansive primary bedroom windows. The coastline is exactly as it appears in the photos, the tides are pretty large providing a changing landscape throughout the day, the lobster boats come by regularly with sets directly in front of the home, there is constant entertainment. Functionally, the kitchen was fully stocked with all cookware, utensils, basic spices, and paper towels. Everything you need for a great stay!
This was our second time staying at the Gills Group houses. This time in Jaquish which is the largest. LOVED this house. We were a group of seven and everyone had their own space. It's also great that it comes with the #14 cottage. The open living space is perfect and has the most incredible ocean views. Really no need to ever leave!
The house manager Dave is also great. Very responsive to any and all needs. Makes the overall experience seamless.
Cannot wait to come back next year!
My wife and I rented this beautiful home(s) for a week and didn’t want to go back to reality. The experience was better than pictures will show, Bailey Island is like going back to simpler, better times. There is a tv there, but wasn’t turned on once. Cooking, listening to music by the sea, games with friends who came up, hikes, etc. The property manager Dave was extremely attentive and helpful with anything we needed, and the check in/out was simple. The views and Bailey Island as a whole were just gorgeous and the people in town and restaurants like Cook’s and Sundrenched couldn’t of been friendlier. We will definitely like to come back, as would our pup, who I had to pick up to get into the car when it was time to go- something that never happens!

Unlike anything else!
We are deeply in love with the beauty and vibe of coastal Maine...its incredibly peaceful and so special. And then somehow this home, its decor, and its location still managed to blow us away. We are very picky and hard to please...but Carter just gets it. Everything in his home is cozy and luxurious yet also authentic and natural. We wanted a slow week with our two young children and this was the perfect vacation for that. We hiked, saw seals, combed the beach for shells, took photographs, ate our weight in lobster, shopped for souvenirs + artwork, took a boat tour, read books, and cooked. Bailey island is so unique and its hard to explain, just go. Carter's home truly accentuates the Maine lifestyle and you can tell he truly loves this place. The giant bathtub overlooking the sea was heaven, the fully stocked kitchen was delightful, his library of Maine-based literature was clever, and the multiple outdoor lounging/dining areas was picture-perfect. I have many recommendations as to what to do on Bailey Island, too many to fit here. But mainly do this: have breakfast at The Driftwood Inn, walk down to Land's End for fun shopping, hike the Devil's back trail to see seals (Orr's Island), take the noon boat ride from Cook's Lobster house, sit on the deck at Jaquish Lane with a glass of wine and just relax. It rarely gets better than this. Thank you Carter!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm so happy you enjoyed your time on the island and I hope you're able to come back soon.
I'm a photographer and filmmaker who loves renovating historic homes. I'm from Bailey Island originally, but now spend my time between New York City and Maine. I love creating spaces that help people experience the magic of this incredibly special place. THE GILLS GROUP cottages are not just rental properties to me, they are homes I created to spend time with people I love.
Why they chose this property
The View. The View. The View.
What makes this property unique
THE GILLS GROUP property manager, Dave Johnson is an island local who is also a lobsterman. He can arrange to deliver fresh lobsters to your doorstep during your stay.
Jaquish Lane can also be rented along with one of my other GILLS GROUP cottages - The Gills (VRBO # 318909) which is directly next door and sleeps 6 or The Red House (VRBO # 1063510) which is across the street with a private pebble beach and 100 foot wharf. The Red House sleeps 4.
