About this property
Modern beach house - 150 m from the Atlantic surf - views on the dunes
New 165 sq m beach house - totally renovated/extended in 2018 by Workhouse Architects. Great location at the foot of the dunes. Walk to the beaches (100 m to the beach entry, and then across the dune path). Large open plan living space: modern kitchen, dining and TV/lounge area, connecting with 3 large terraces. Upstairs there is a great L-shaped roofterrace looking out over the dunes (sunset views).
Whilst being so close to the beach, the villa offers amazing privacy in the surrounding garden as it is positioned smartly on a corner bloc at the entrance of the beach road.
Superb surfing at 2 iconic beaches: "la Piste" or "Santocha". Ever changing beach-art painted on the "blockhauses".
Downstairs, the villa has: - an entrance hall with guest toilet, guest wardrobe and closed off utility area (with washing machine and dryer), - a large open plan living area: fully equiped kitchen with Kitchen bar, dining area, lounge and TV area) with large floor to ceiling windows inviting sunlight from 3 directions; - the master bedroom with its ensuite (walk in shower, toilet) as well as connecting to the outdoor shower area. There are 3 more bedrooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs: - a double bedroom with its ensuite (bath) and access to the roof terrace, with great views over the dunes - a bedroom with double bed, facing south - a bedroom with 2 single beds (can be joined to make a large double). - a 3rd bathroom (walk-in shower, toilet). (There is a 5th bedroom which is locked (not rented out and private owner's storage).)
In the garden, there are 3 large terraces (in Cumaru wood) , allowing you to catch sun or shade at different times of the day; they connect the outdoor living space fluidly to the different areas downstairs. There is an outdoor gas barbecue, teak table and chairs, an extra white PVC table and chairs, outdoor Bose loudspeakers, banana lounges, beanbags etc. to make outdoor dining and relaxing as confortable as possible.
There is also an outdoor shower with hot and cold water for a quick rinse when returning from the beach.
Finally, smell the peppery dunes. Listen to the sound of the thumping waves. Quickly check out the state of the swell and the waves, before walking barefoot across the dunes for that early morning surf; or catch the perfect sunset just before starting the barbeque.
Walk or cycle (1 km) to the town center to buy croissants for breakfast, or baguettes for the cheese platter. Walk 20 minutes to the port/marina to buy freshly caught bar, dorade or squid, directly from the fishing boats in the morning. Savour oysters cultivated in the local tidal lake whilst overlooking the lake and the Pyrenees in the background.
Enjoy Villa Mandurah - your meeting place by the sea.

About the host
Hosted by Theo Speelmans
An Australian/Belgian family with 4 sports and surf loving (young) adult children. We discovered Capbreton/Hossegor in 1999, rented villa's for several holidays, and then bought a holiday house in 2004. We always wanted to be very close to the surf beaches so that we could hear the surf and easily walk with our kids and surfboards to the beach. We purchased this house in 2017, seduced by the potential of its location (a corner bloc by the beach) and totally renovated and extended it. It is very bright, and it is furnished with hints from around the world. We currently live in Brussels and our children work/study in the UK. This villa is also where our family comes together for Christmas etc, and where we spend family holidays in the off season - we call it Villa Mandurah (an aboriginal word meaning 'meeting place by the sea').
Why they chose this property
- the ocean beaches just across the small beach road - the views over the dunes from the upstairs bedroom and roof terrace - the unique ambiance of a surfing paradise that Capbreton/Hossegor have become. Fun and sporty vibes all year round. - You have open skies from the house in all directions. It is a corner bloc of land with no neighbours' interference.
What makes this property unique
a very short walk across the dune paths to the sandy surf beaches of Capbreton (La Piste and Santocha). You can hear the waves break on the beaches. You can watch the sun set over the dunes from the roof terrace. Great privacy in the garden and outside terraces without interference from neighbours, and yet being very close to the beach.
