About this property

Merging Waters - Native Stone, couples cabin in the Ouachita Mtns.

Merging Waters is a gated one bedroom two bath cabin. , and looking toward Big Eagle Creek, a back yard covered patio and a open air deck off the loft bedroom. It is situated on 7+ acres just off of US Highway 259 in the Ouachita Mountains, which is one of the oldest mountain ranges in the United States. On the property is a one-of-a-kind, split-level native stone cabin, ( approximately 1075 ft.²) whose rock walls date to the 1950’s.

The entry is a new 256 sq ft. addition including an 8 X 18’ breezeway with screened patio doors, flanked by a downstairs bathroom with shower on one end and a laundry room for staff cleaning and sanitation between guests.
Guests doing 6+ day stays will be allowed to access the laundry room/ folding room upon arrangement)

A custom-made spiral oak staircase leads to the sleep loft bedroom and en-suite bathroom. There is one queen size bed and the bath has a shower with handheld wand or rain shower heads options.

From the dormer, french doors open onto an elevated open-air deck. It has a beautiful view of the mixed deciduous and evergreen native forest, as well as one of the two creeks that merge on the property.

An outside staircase decends into the fenced backyard. Big Eagle is a beautiful spring-fed creek behind the cabin with easy access for fishing. It also has an incredible deepwater hole. A little further downstream, but still on Merging Waters property, Cucumber Creek merges with it.

The main floor open-concept room with cathedral ceilings has a custom-built spiral staircase separating the lounging area from the self-catering kitchen area. The lounging area is complete with leather couch containing double-recliners, a built-in bookshelf, flat screen TV with Dish but no pay-per-view. There is an oak Armoire for guests convenience so a lot of luggage doesn’t have to be carried up the spiral staircase. It has room for both hanging and folded clothes storage and also houses various games. Please note: there is a 250 lb total weight limit on the stair case, so if the couples combined weight exceeds that, they will need to only have one person on it at a time.)

Just beyond the Armoire beneath a large picture window, is an oak library desk/table with lamp
-large enough for a laptop computer. It also contains information about sites to see in and around the area and a journal where guests can add reflections on stay.

On the other side of the staircase is a complete kitchen, with full size appliances, including electric stove and oven, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with ice in the door, microwave, dishwasher, (regular coffee pot and Keurig-, with complimentary coffee and tea) and an oak dining table. There is
also a soapstone stove but due to the age of the chimney, it is for ornamental purposes only (No fires).

However just outside the back kitchen door leading into the backyard, is a covered patio and further in the yard a fire pit with bench so our couple guests can snuggle while enjoying a nice crackling fire with the wood provided in the backyard fire rack. There is also a charcoal grill in the backyard (guests should bring charcoal).

Just beyond the back gate is a fish cleaning station for any anglers. Please note that the hose for the fish cleaning station hooks up on the side of the house. FYI - We are on a rural water system (not well water) so please be sure the water is turned off and hose disconnected after using the fish cleaning area. Please dump any fish waste back to the creek to feed the ones that got away😊, rinse bucket and return for the next lucky angler.

Fish caught in the creek include walleye, small mouth, sun perch, pike. Fishing may be good or bad depending on a lot of factors including whether the river otters have been through recently. Good news is, if our guests happen to be here at the same time as the otters, it can be just as entertaining to watch them teaching their babies how to fish as catching one of your own.

Please note the following: There is no pay-per-view and No Internet as our location does not have a reliable tower internet service. Therefore we have installed a universal cell signal booster, that increases signal on phones that get a signal allowing guests whose carriers have coverage in this area to use their own cell internet connection and/or bring their mobile jet packs.
Merging Waters is a couples-only cabin not suitable for children. No pets, parties, outside visitors or meetings are allowed. Also be advised: phone service may be spotty, depending on guests carriers and climatic conditions.
Inside the cabin with the signal booster, carriers like Verizon AT&T and United Cellular generally have good to excellent signals. Older cell phones requiring 3G technology no longer receive signal because the area cell towers no longer support 3G.

Great eclipse getaway
Merging waters is a wonderful place to stay in southeast Oklahoma. The cabin is located on two beautiful creeks and we can't wait to come back during the summer months to fish and enjoy the swimming hole. We spent the April 8th eclipse on the bank with a great view and we also enjoyed watching the river otters.

Road noise was unbelievably loud.
The cabin was fine. The grounds were fine. The host was very attentive. We did not know that the cabins location was about 50 yards from the main highway. The traffic was constant all the way up til 1 am in the morning. We chose to leave early because of the road noise.

Rustic and peaceful
This was our 3rd stay at this beautiful property and we loved every minute. Janet is so kind and will make sure your stay is as described if not better. We enjoy hearing about the history of this property and soaking in all of the Rustic beauty. Most of our time was spent by the water enjoying the peacefulness while fishing. Coming here has become a tradition for us and we are already booked for next year. Thank you Janet for sharing your beautiful place with us. See you soon

Beautiful cabin and property
Janet was very nice and provided a lot of information. Really enjoyed the cabin, it was clean and comfortable and had some impressive woodwork and great old rock walls. The property is beautiful with the rivers coming together. Saw a bald eagle flying over the river at one point. All in all very relaxing and worth the trip. Thanks for a great stay!
