Sensational View: Gatlinburg's Best View! Gorgeous Custom Home Minutes from Town
We are delighted to host you in our home, custom designed to immerse you in the best day and night views in Gatlinburg (we rebuilt after losing our last cabin in the fire). Since the reopening in late 2018, our guests have been thrilled to share what it's like to stay at Sensational View...
"The views from the decks and penthouse windows are better than anything you can see from the Space Needle or Sky Lift. We woke up in the clouds in the morning and had gorgeous sunset views in the evening."
"Truly a magnificent place to stay. Views that are second to none, with amenities that made us feel right at home (or shall I say, better than home!). The proximity to downtown as well as hiking makes this location perfect no matter what you are looking to do. With every bedroom having an attached bathroom, there is perfect privacy for traveling with a group. Host was always very responsive to any questions that we had. My family has been going to Gatlinburg for many years, and this is by far the nicest chalet that we have stayed in."
"Stunning vacation home. Beautiful views. Just no words to explain the best place ever."
"We've rented many many homes and this by far has been the nicest, it was very well laid out, super clean, so close to everything but yet you felt miles away... the owners spared no expense and it shows. Loved it."
"The simple but elegant, beautiful furnishings - most are hand made including beds. All just amazing. The unique lights all give it the atmosphere desired for being in most elegant chalet with most sensational view."
"The penthouse is breathtaking. When we got upstairs we decided we might need to move in up there, owners and other guests won’t ever know we are here. Best review I can give is I am in love with this place."
"This home was not only beautiful, it was homey and decorated in a style that hugged you the moment you arrived! We had plenty of space and loved the showers. One evening, we could not help but just stop and admire one of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever witnessed. They all were beautiful but this one was a very special one from the Mountain. You can feel the love and pride that has been taken in this home."
"Jay and Amy have outdone themselves with the attention to detail in this home. I absolutely love the farmhouse style. We had a spectacular time with our family. There were 12 of us and ample room for all. We were fortunate to meet the caretakers, James and Maria, who showed us around and drew our attention to all of the beautiful furniture handmade by James. If we do any vacationing in Gatlinburg, we won't even bother looking anywhere else."
******************************* After losing the original cabin in the 2016 wildfire, we decided to build the best custom home we could on the best view lot in Gatlinburg.
The NEW Sensational View opened August 8, 2018. The house has 3,061 square feet, five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and sleeps up to 23, with 19 guests in bedrooms and two sofa beds in the common areas.
The first floor and specifically the "Bear" bedroom designed to be very accessible. Many of our past guests have been interested in easy access for elderly family members (we have elderly family members too). This is important to us! Entering the cabin requires going up two steps. Then the whole first floor (inside and deck) is flat. Bedroom 2 has a shower with a bench and three grab rails, plus a shower head you can mount or hold in hand. There is also a grab bar next to the toilet. (All toilets are chair height.)
The first floor has a great room including the kitchen, dining room, and family room. Our housekeepers crafted another beautiful 12 foot dining table just like we had in the last house. The whole room has views toward Gatlinburg and the mountains with a wall of windows. This room has a 70" TV with a soundbar.
All five bedrooms have attached bathrooms. The master suite on the first floor has a large bathroom with marble shower and separate tub. It has great views and direct access to the deck and hot tub. This bedroom has a 49" TV. (All 4 bedrooms on floors 1 and 2 have TVs ranging from 32" to 49" depending on room size.)
We bought a gorgeous Marquis Euphoria hot tub, which beats any hot tub we've ever seen at a rental. It is right outside the master bedroom.
The second floor has a large game room, designed as a balcony overlooking the great room and the view. It features a pool table, foosball table, cocktail arcade, poker table and 65" TV. Bedrooms 3 (four guests and big views) and 4 (seven guests) are on opposite sides of the game room. These bedrooms have shower/tub combos. A wraparound deck connects the bedrooms outside and offers not only amazing views of the city and mountains but also a neat perspective looking back into the house. (Thanks to our architect for convincing us this was a good idea. We were skeptical but the first time up there blew us away. it's awesome!)
Bedroom five is the penthouse - a bedroom/bathroom suite with a king bed and sleep sofa, wet bar, refrigerator, microwave, and seating area perched high above everything. It has a wall of windows 16 ft wide for the best panoramic view of Gatlinburg and the Smokies anywhere. If there is a better suite in town, we would seriously like to see it! There is a 65" TV over the wet bar, but you may never notice it because of the view. :)
Here are the sleeping arrangements: First floor Master Bedroom: King (sleeps 2) Bedroom 2: Queen log bed (sleeps 2) - note that the shower has a bench, three grab bars, and a shower head that can be mounted or handheld; the chair height toilet also has a grab bar Great room: Queen sleep sofa (sleeps 2)
Second floor Bedroom 3: Two queens (sleeps 4) Bedroom 4: Full over full bunk and triple bunk (sleeps up to 7 or separate beds for up to 5) Game room: Queen sleep sofa (sleeps 2)
Third floor Penthouse: King and queen sleep sofa (sleeps 4)

House and view are beautiful! Bears everywhere, everyday (we watched a mama bear get in a car next door - DON’T leave food and lock up!!)! The house had plenty of room for our extended family and loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom. Had a few issues with cleaning prior to check in, and couldn’t use the grill outside (which threw off some of our scheduled meals), but it didn’t ruin our time. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cooking items - that was very nice. A great house overall and we really enjoyed our week!
My family had a wonderful time during our stay. The kids loved playing in the game room and there was plenty of space for everyone. We all enjoyed the spectacular views and the many bear sightings!
Really beautiful house and lovely host experience. Very communicative and kind! Our only true issue (not a house issue but may be helpful for others staying here) - the driveway is HARD to navigate with a large van- did totally fine with a smaller vehicle, but difficult to get in and out of with a large van because of the angle and the hill getting up to house is narrow with no guardrails on the side.
Pretty good. The stove was already damaged and with the daily bear visits making it impossible to cookout. Eating at the house became a challenge. We had to bring a lot of food home. But the house and it's location are great. We had a good vacation.
Renters need to know there is a cell tower very close to the house if that’s important to them. The view is amazing. We had 14 people and the house accommodated us beautifully. Air conditioning and oven problems upon arrival. Air conditioned was resolved immediately. Host and contractor were steadfast in resolving problem. Lovely home and breath taking views.
Our stay was perfect! Communication with the host was excellent, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. The beds were very comfortable, and we even saw bears at the cabin every day, which made the experience extra special. The only thing to note is that the driveway is extremely steep, so just be prepared for that. Thank you for such an amazing stay—we will definitely be back!
As the description and name of the house says, “Sensational View”. Drive up to the house doesn’t seem that long nor high until you reach the top and oh my, so beautiful!! Will was also very responsive and that’s always a plus! Look forward to staying here again!
The view really is amazing. The cabin is very clean and the beds are super comfortable. It’s just a couple of minutes from center of gatlinburg but it still feels remote and peaceful. We saw the family of bears patrolling the area everyday. We had a couple of issues with hot water and internet, but the host was ready to help us right away to get the issues resolved. Would definitely stay here again.
Overall, we enjoyed staying at this house. There were minor issues such as hinges of doors, doorknobs, and some bathroom fixtures that needed to be tightened, but the good definitely outweighed all of this. Great place and awesome view! We saw bears every day and even had a pack of coyote howling in the woods at night.
Hi Karin, It was nice working with you and we hope you will come visit again! ---Jay & Amy
About the host
Hosted by Amy & Will Hopman
A family operation out of Knoxville, TN, we've been visiting Gatlinburg almost every year for the past 40 years. We love the waterfalls, peaks, and all the space for families to enjoy in the Smoky Mountains. The owner, Amy, is a biologist and science teacher who loves the wildlife of the Smokies. You can usually find her peaking under a rock or downed tree in the park. Most operations are managed by the (now grown up) kids, Will and Emma. We are all passionate about ensuring our guests have the best vacation ever, so never be afraid to reach out during your stay!
Why they chose this property
In the 1980s our family stayed several times in a cabin that had a great view of the mountains. Seeing the lights of the city shine up into the night was mesmerizing! This home is similar... except the view is even better! In fact, it is the best view we've seen of the city nestled in the mountains with the National Park in the background. The layout of the home is perfect for family reunions, and we host a lot of three generation vacations. We never get tired of hearing how much families enjoy our Smoky Mountain home and their time together.
What makes this property unique
Many cabins with views are at the end of long, windy drives and have little parking available. This home is just 1 mile or about 4 minutes from the main Parkway in Gatlinburg and easily handles 6 cars off the street! It's quick to get to and is minutes from a supermarket, the community center (with swimming, bowling, and other activities), and provides quick access to everything from the National Park to Pigeon Forge. You can get to groceries, hardware, the arts and crafts loop, and some restaurants from here without driving through city traffic.
